Lexmark T654n: wired monochrome output without automatic duplex review

A high-volume one-sided document routine

The Lexmark T654n is a monochrome laser printer with included Ethernet and USB, a four-line grayscale panel and a recommended monthly range of 5,000–50,000 pages. US part 30G0310 fits a wired team whose reports, forms or correspondence mainly need one-sided output. Its maker declaration reaches up to 55 one-sided Letter pages per minute.

The deciding distinction is automatic duplex. The exact T654n specification says it is unavailable, and the original guide states that this model does not support an optional duplex unit. This differs both from the internally duplex-equipped T654dn and from a T650 that can take a separate duplex option.

Understand the two-source paper arrangement

The 650-sheet included capacity consists of a 550-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder at the 20-pound or 75-gsm ordinary-paper basis. The original tables support Letter, Legal and A4 in both paths. Match the guides, paper size and paper type to the load rather than assuming that a previous queue setting is still correct.

For a continuous ordinary-paper run using both inputs, load matching stock and settings and put the multipurpose feeder in Cassette mode for linking. Its paper size needs manual configuration. A feeder holding letterhead or another special stock should have settings that keep an ordinary job from consuming it unexpectedly.

Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided multipurpose-feed routine with the specified flap orientation and Envelope type. They replace the feeder's ordinary-paper stack for that job. The optional envelope feeder and 4,300-sheet input maximum require additional hardware. The supplied 550-sheet output bin is another separate limit and may need collecting before a full input load finishes.

Choose this variant only if its finishing fits

A family guide can describe a duplex menu without giving every variant a duplex mechanism. On the T654n, do not plan on solving an automatic two-sided requirement by adding the T650's separate unit. The guide explicitly rules out that upgrade path. A documented T654dn or another duplex-equipped printer is the appropriate comparison.

The 55-ppm figure specifically describes one-sided Letter printing. It is not a duplex rate or an A4 or Legal speed. Check representative files and the intended software environment before deciding that a declared engine rate matches the team's complete workflow.

Connect and release jobs through the documented routes

USB Type-B is the local computer connection, while Ethernet supplies the included wired network route. Print a setup page, confirm Connected status and identify the IP address before installing network queues. Parallel, serial, wireless and gigabit options are separate hardware.

The exact specification lists front and rear Type-A host sockets, but the guide supports flash drives only in the front port. They are not substitute computer ports. The printer has no scanner, copier or fax, and the paper feeder does not capture originals. AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished here.

Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing software can submit a confidential job with a user name and four-digit PIN. Release it from Held Jobs using the panel keypad. These jobs use printer memory and can be deleted when more memory is required. Optional-disk encryption and Job Waiting are separate features with their own hardware conditions.

Check the supplies and maintenance state

The original US supplied Return Program cartridge declares 10,000 pages. Standard T650A11A or T650A21A replacements declare 7,000; high-yield T650H11A or T650H21A cartridges declare 25,000; and T654X11A or T654X21A extra-high yields declare 36,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Confirm the exact supply region and program conditions. The extra-high option is restricted to T654 models.

Inspect maintenance status and the actual fuser type and voltage as well as toner. The 300,000-page maximum monthly duty figure does not replace the 50,000-page recommended ceiling. Lexmark marks this 51.6-pound model discontinued. Verify its electrical label, proper cord, current software, physical condition and operating clearance before reuse; choose a documented multifunction or duplex model if those capabilities would remove repeated manual work.
