A useful fit for

A wired small office printing black documents within 750–5,000 recommended monthly pages and using compatible older scanning software.

The main tradeoff

The glass stops at Letter/A4 size; Legal uses the feeder, and an optional external wireless print server does not establish wireless scanning.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a wired desk print monochrome Legal duplex and scan two-sided Legal originals in color while also copying and using analog fax?

Yes with the documented network profile, compatible Java/software setup and separate active analog telephone service. Legal printing and duplex are explicit, and the reversing ADF handles Legal color capture.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can Legal originals be scanned flat on its glass?

No. The guide limits the glass to 8.5×11.7 inches. Legal originals fit the document feeder, which cannot substitute for an explicitly required Legal flatbed.

Does the optional external wireless print server establish a complete Wi-Fi scan-and-copy computer workflow?

No supported combined route is established. The exact dn page identifies that wireless accessory as print-only; the documented computer-scanning arrangement here uses Ethernet.

A wired monochrome office machine with color capture

The Lexmark X364dn is an earlier small-office multifunction printer that prints and copies in black while scanning documents in color. US part 13B0502 includes automatic print duplex, a 50-sheet reversing document feeder, analog fax and 10/100 Ethernet. Its two-line grayscale display uses buttons rather than a touchscreen.

The useful fit is a wired office printing approximately 750–5,000 pages per month and maintaining a compatible older computer-scanning environment. The important size distinction is that Legal originals fit the ADF, while the scanner glass stops at 8.5×11.7 inches. A Legal flatbed requirement needs a different documented machine.

Match printing paper to the duplex path

The standard 250-sheet tray and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder provide 300 ordinary sheets on the maker's 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in both sources and the automatic-duplex path. Ordinary duplex stock must meet the documented 60–90-gsm range; a broad media-support list does not make every stock duplexable.

Set size and type to match the actual load. For combined ordinary feeding, use matching stock and MP Cassette mode. The multipurpose feeder can instead hold up to seven suitable envelopes, following the flap orientation and restrictions. That envelope load replaces its ordinary paper and prints one-sided.

The 150-sheet output bin is smaller than the total input. An optional 250- or 550-sheet drawer can expand capacity, but only one optional drawer may be fitted. The 850-sheet maximum includes the larger option; it is not the standard package and cannot be combined with another optional drawer.

Use the feeder for Legal and the glass for delicate originals

Load ordinary multipage originals faceup, short edge first, and adjust the ADF guides. It handles Letter, Legal and A4 within the stated size range and 52–120-gsm feeder limits. The exact model specifies reversing duplex, so it can capture both sides automatically by turning the sheet rather than scanning both sides in one pass.

Use the glass for individual Letter or A4 pages, small items, photos and thin clippings. Place the original facedown in the upper-left corner. Books must stay within the guide's one-inch thickness limit. Printing Legal paper does not increase the glass's physical length.

The reviewed computer-scanning routine creates a network Scan Profile in the Embedded Web Server. Its instructions explicitly require Java on the computer. Choose the destination, color, original size and duplex settings, then start the profile at the printer. Confirm that the actual browser and software can perform this older routine before adopting it for regular records work.

Keep computer, host and telephone connections separate

USB Type-B provides the direct computer-print connection. Ethernet supplies the documented network capture route, while the front Type-A socket serves supported flash-drive printing and scanning. A host flash-drive routine does not establish scanning into a computer over USB.

The dn has no included Wi-Fi radio. Its listed optional external wireless print server is explicitly print-only, so it does not establish the full wireless scan-and-copy computer workflow. Choose a separately documented wireless model when moving the machine away from Ethernet is a requirement. Current AirPrint, Mopria and confidential PIN release remain unestablished here.

Analog fax uses the LINE port and active compatible telephone service. Configure the station name and number and follow the appropriate phone-service instructions. A working computer network does not replace that telephone setup.

Check recurring volume and consumable condition

Lexmark declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 18 Letter duplex sides per minute. The black simplex scanner's 21 A4 or 22 Letter sides per minute are different measurements. Likewise, the 80,000-page maximum duty rating does not replace the recommended 5,000-page monthly ceiling.

The original US supplied toner declares 3,000 standard pages. Replacement cartridges declare 3,500 or 9,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752, while the E260X22G photoconductor kit is a separate component. Inspect it and the ADF separator and feed parts, along with the offered unit's electrical label and software. This discontinued 44-pound model needs operating access beyond its closed body dimensions.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black, separately 18 black Letter duplex sides per minute. Black A4/Letter simplex scan rates are separately 21/22 sides per minute. Color scan and duplex scan rates are unestablished; scanning in color does not provide color printing.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet tray and 50-sheet MP feeder total 300 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm/20 lb. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both and automatic duplex; ordinary duplex uses 60–90 gsm stock. Match size/type and MP Cassette mode for combined feeding. Seven envelopes use a separate one-sided MP load. Output is 150 sheets; optional 250/550 drawers are alternatives and only one may be fitted.

Scanning arrangement

The 50-sheet reversing duplex ADF handles Letter, Legal and A4 originals within its 52–120 gsm range. The scanner glass is separately limited to 8.5×11.7 inches, including Letter/A4 but not Legal. Photos, small items and thin clippings belong on the glass. This feeder is not single-pass.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer printing, 10/100 Ethernet and a front Type-A flash-drive host port. This dn has no standard wireless radio. The listed optional external Wi-Fi print server is print-only and does not establish wireless network scanning. Reviewed computer capture uses the included Ethernet network profile.

Supplies and declared yields

US supplied toner declares 3,000 standard pages; X264A11G/A21G replacements declare 3,500 and X264H11G/H21G declare 9,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate E260X22G photoconductor kit and ADF feed/separator parts need condition checks. Their life is not the toner cartridge’s ISO yield.

Software and support

The reviewed network Scan Profile setup explicitly requires Java on the computer and a compatible browser/software environment. Select the destination, original size, color and duplex options, then start its profile at the printer. USB computer scanning, confidential PIN release and current mobile protocols remain unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Analog fax uses an active compatible analog telephone line at LINE, with station name and number configured. Network printing or scanning does not replace that phone connection. Check actual-unit electrical labeling, proper cord, software, component condition and room for trays, covers and airflow; nominal mains input is unestablished.
