A useful fit for

A wired office printing black documents and scanning Legal originals within 2,000–10,000 recommended monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

Wi-Fi and the hard disk are optional; the reviewed network scanning routine requires compatible Java/software and the feeder is reversing.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a wired office combine monochrome Legal duplex, Legal color scans through both glass and duplex ADF, copying, fax and PIN release?

Yes through compatible printing software and the documented network scan profile, with active compatible analog phone service separately connected to LINE. Both Legal scan routes and Legal print duplex are explicit.

Can the supplied machine provide at least 500 included paper sheets for A4 duplex?

No. Its standard 250-sheet tray and 50-sheet MP feeder total 300 sheets. The larger capacity requires a separately fitted drawer and cannot satisfy an included-capacity requirement.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can its automatic two-sided feeder capture Legal originals in one pass?

No. The exact X464de identifies a reversing duplex ADF. Automatic two-sided capture is supported, but single-pass capture is a different requirement.

Black document output with a full Legal-size glass

The Lexmark X464de is an earlier monochrome laser multifunction machine for a wired office that prints in black and scans in color. US part 13C1101 includes automatic print duplex, a 7-inch color touchscreen, a 50-sheet reversing document feeder and analog fax. Its recommended monthly range is 2,000–10,000 pages.

The glass explicitly accepts originals through Legal size, as does the feeder. That is useful when a longer original must lie flat. The deciding tradeoff is the older software environment: the reviewed computer-scanning routine needs a compatible network Scan Profile setup, including Java, while Wi-Fi and a hard disk are optional.

Plan the scanner route and receiving computer

The ADF handles ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 originals within its documented 52–120-gsm range. Load them faceup, short edge first, adjust the guides and select the original sides. The exact specification identifies reversing duplex, so two-sided capture is automatic but does not scan both sides in one pass.

Use the glass for individual pages, photos, small items and thin clippings. Place the original facedown in the upper-left corner and keep books within the guide's one-inch thickness limit. Local copying can use either route, with original size and output choices set independently.

For computer scanning, create a Scan Profile through the printer's Embedded Web Server. The instructions explicitly require Java on the computer. Select the receiving location, color, original size and sides, then start the profile at the printer. Verify that the actual computer and browser can perform this routine. USB computer printing and front flash-drive output do not themselves establish scanning into a USB-connected computer.

Load the standard paper sources and duplex stock

The standard 250-sheet tray and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder provide 300 ordinary sheets on the maker's 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. The original tables explicitly support Letter, Legal and A4 in both sources and automatic duplex. Ordinary duplex paper must meet the stated 60–90-gsm range.

For combined feeding, match paper size and type across the sources and use MP Cassette mode. A separate stock or envelope load replaces the feeder's ordinary stack. Up to seven suitable envelopes use the instructed one-sided multipurpose routine with the correct envelope size, type and orientation.

The 150-sheet output bin may need collecting before all ordinary input is used. Optional 250- and 550-sheet drawers are alternatives, with only one allowed at a time. The 850-sheet maximum requires the larger drawer and should not be counted as supplied capacity.

Separate confidential release, networking and fax

USB Type-B provides direct computer printing, and the included 10/100 Ethernet interface provides the documented network arrangement. Its compatibility with a 1000Base-T network does not make it a gigabit-speed interface. Type-A host ports serve their own supported devices. Wireless, parallel and serial require optional hardware.

Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing can submit a user name and four-digit PIN. The job stays in printer memory until local release, although memory pressure can remove held jobs. This documented ordinary confidential routine should not be confused with features that depend on installing the optional hard disk.

Analog fax requires an active compatible telephone service connected to LINE. Enable fax, set the station name and number and follow the relevant regional connection instructions. Ethernet is a separate document-network connection and does not replace the telephone path. AirPrint and Mopria support remain unestablished here.

Check speed, toner and continued service condition

Lexmark declares up to 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 18 Letter duplex sides per minute. Black and color scanner rates use their own measurements; they are not print speeds. The 80,000-page maximum monthly duty figure should not replace the recommended 10,000-page ceiling for recurring work.

The original US toner declares 7,000 standard pages. X463-series replacements declare 3,500, 9,000 or 15,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The E260X22G photoconductor kit and ADF separator/feed parts need separate checks. This discontinued 50-pound model also needs suitable support, actual electrical labeling, compatible software and room for open trays and covers. A documented newer multifunction alternative is useful when maintaining the older network profile would complicate daily capture.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black, separately 18 Letter duplex sides per minute. Letter scanning is separately 35 black/20 color simplex sides per minute and 13 black/8 color reversing-duplex sides per minute. A4 figures, copy rates and image-quality figures are separate measures.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet tray plus 50-sheet MP feeder total 300 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm/20 lb. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both and automatic duplex, using ordinary 60–90 gsm duplex stock. Match size/type and MP Cassette mode for combined feeding. Seven envelopes use a separate one-sided MP load. Output is 150 sheets; one optional 250- or 550-sheet drawer may be fitted, with 850 maximum input requiring the latter.

Scanning arrangement

The glass and 50-sheet reversing ADF both explicitly handle originals through Legal, including Letter and A4. The ADF uses 52–120 gsm originals and reverses them for duplex capture; it is not single-pass. Photos, small items and thin clippings belong on the glass.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer printing, 10/100 Ethernet and front/rear Type-A host ports. Compatibility with 1000Base-T does not establish gigabit transfer speed. Wi-Fi, parallel and serial require optional hardware. The documented computer-scanning plan uses Ethernet profiles; USB computer scanning is unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

US supplied toner declares 7,000 standard pages. X463A/H/X-series replacements declare 3,500, 9,000 or 15,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate E260X22G photoconductor kit and ADF separator/feed parts require condition checks rather than inheriting the toner yield.

Software and support

The network Scan Profile setup explicitly requires Java on a compatible computer. Select destination, color, original size and sides, then start the profile at the machine. Compatible Windows Print and Hold/Mac Job Routing provide four-digit confidential release from memory, with memory-pressure deletion possible. An optional hard disk is separate; current OS/browser/mobile compatibility needs checking.

Electrical edition and setup

Analog fax needs active compatible analog telephone service at LINE, enabled fax and station name/number settings; Ethernet does not provide the phone path. Check actual-unit electrical labeling, proper cord, support, software and operating clearance beyond closed body dimensions. Nominal mains input is unestablished.
