Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a wired team combine monochrome Legal duplex printing, color Legal scans from glass and a one-sided ADF, copy, analog fax and PIN release at 18,000 monthly pages?
Yes with compatible computer software and the documented network profile. Both scan routes accept Legal; the 75-sheet ADF is simplex. Fax separately needs active compatible analog phone service at LINE, and the recommended ceiling is 20,000 pages/month.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the X652de automatically scan both sides of Legal originals because it prints duplex?
No. Its exact scanner specification says Simplex. The shared family manual and features of higher models do not establish automatic two-sided capture on this exact model.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its 200,000-page duty rating qualify a recommended 25,000-page monthly routine?
No. The recommended range ends at 20,000 pages/month. The larger maximum duty rating measures a separate limit.

The Lexmark X652de suits an earlier wired office workflow that combines monochrome printing, copying, color network scanning and analog fax. US part 16M1260 includes a 7-inch color touchscreen, 650 ordinary input sheets and a 75-sheet document feeder. Its recommended monthly volume is 3,000–20,000 pages.
The deciding distinction is the scanner: this exact model's ADF is simplex. It has automatic print duplex, but it does not automatically capture both sides of an original. The larger family includes other scanner configurations, so a team processing two-sided originals should select a model with that capability explicitly documented.
Use Legal-size glass or the simplex feeder deliberately
Both the scanner glass and ADF accept originals through 8.5×14 inches, including Letter, Legal and A4. Load ordinary multipage originals faceup, short edge first, adjust the guides and stay within the documented 52–120-gsm feeder range. The 75-sheet capacity is for capture originals, separate from the printer's paper inputs.
Use the glass for individual pages, small items, photos, thin clippings and books within the guide's one-inch thickness limit. Place the original facedown in the upper-left corner. Local copying can make two-sided output from separately captured one-sided originals; that output setting does not add automatic two-sided scanning hardware.
For computer capture, create a Scan Profile through the printer's Embedded Web Server, choose the receiving location, original size and color and then start the profile at the printer. Check that the actual network and software can perform this older routine. The reviewed route is network scanning; USB computer printing and front flash-drive scanning have different purposes.
Prepare the included paper sources for ordinary duplex
The supplied configuration combines a 550-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder for 650 ordinary sheets on the maker's 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both sources and the automatic-duplex path. Ordinary duplex paper must meet its separate 63–170-gsm range.
Use matching size and type settings and MP Cassette mode when the ordinary sources should feed one job together. Suitable envelopes instead use a separate instructed one-sided multipurpose load, replacing that feeder's paper stack. The separate 550-sheet output bin can require collection before a full ordinary input load finishes.
The 3,200-sheet maximum input needs optional hardware and appropriate furniture. Do not assign another model's additional standard drawer to this configuration. Label-application supplies also have their own conditions: the guide says their special fuser cleaner prevents duplexing. That label arrangement should be checked separately from normal ordinary-paper duplex work.
Keep confidential release and analog fax on their documented paths
Included USB Type-B supports computer printing, and 10/100 Ethernet provides the wired network route. Compatibility with a 1000Base-T network is not a gigabit transfer-rate claim. Type-A host ports serve supported local devices. Wi-Fi, parallel and serial require optional hardware, and current AirPrint or Mopria support remains unestablished here.
Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing can submit a user name and four-digit PIN for local confidential release. The guide documents this ordinary routine in printer memory and warns that memory pressure can delete held jobs. The optional hard disk and features such as disk-dependent previews require their own installed-configuration checks.
The included fax modem needs active compatible analog telephone service connected to LINE. Configure the station name and number and follow the applicable regional phone setup. Ethernet does not provide that telephone connection.
Plan recurring volume and maintenance realistically
Lexmark declares up to 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black and separately 30 Letter duplex sides per minute. The black simplex scanner's combined A4/Letter figure of 55 sides per minute is a separate measure. The 200,000-page maximum monthly duty rating does not replace the recommended 20,000-page ceiling.
The original US print cartridge declares 7,000 standard pages, with 7,000- or 25,000-page replacements under ISO/IEC 19752. The 36,000-page X654-series cartridge belongs to other models. Inspect pick rollers, charge and transfer rolls, ADF parts and the voltage-specific T1 or T2 fuser. This discontinued 100-pound machine needs suitable support, operating clearance, electrical labeling and compatible software before further workgroup service.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 45 one-sided Letter print pages per minute in black and separately 30 black Letter duplex sides per minute. The combined A4/Letter black simplex scanner figure is separately 55 sides per minute; it is not a print rate or evidence of automatic two-sided capture.
Paper handling
Included 550-sheet tray and 100-sheet MP feeder total 650 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm/20 lb. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both and automatic duplex. Match size/type and MP Cassette mode for combined ordinary feeding; the normal duplex weight range is 63–170 gsm. Envelopes use a separate one-sided MP load. Output is 550 sheets; maximum 3,200 input requires optional hardware and furniture.
Scanning arrangement
The exact X652de has a 75-sheet simplex ADF, with no automatic two-sided scanning. Both scanner glass and ADF accept originals through Legal, including Letter and A4. The ordinary ADF range is 52–120 gsm. Photos, small items and thin clippings belong on the glass; a generic family duplex statement does not add duplex capture to this model.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B computer printing and 10/100 Ethernet, plus separate Type-A host ports. Compatibility with 1000Base-T is not a gigabit-rate claim. Wi-Fi, parallel and serial require optional hardware. Reviewed computer scanning uses a network profile; USB computer scanning and current mobile protocols are unestablished.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied print cartridge declares 7,000 pages; X651A11A/A21A and X651H11A/H21A replacements declare 7,000 or 25,000 standard pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The 36,000-page X654-series cartridge is excluded. Maintenance includes pick rollers, charge roll, transfer roller and fuser; verify installed T1/T2 fuser type and voltage. Label-application supplies/cleaner alter duplex availability and are outside the ordinary-paper plan.
Software and support
Use the documented network profile to choose the receiving computer location, original size and color, then start that profile at the machine. Compatible Windows Print and Hold/Mac Job Routing supply four-digit confidential local release from memory, subject to memory-pressure deletion. The optional hard disk and disk-dependent previews are separate from this ordinary PIN routine.
Electrical edition and setup
Analog fax separately requires LINE connected to active compatible analog phone service and configured station name/number. The 100 lb body needs suitable support, airflow and operating access; optional drawers have furniture requirements. Verify offered-unit electrical labeling, software and component condition. Nominal mains input is unestablished.
