The Lexmark X748de combines color laser printing, copying, network scanning and analog fax for a commercial team. US part 34T5012 includes gigabit Ethernet, a hard disk, a 7-inch color touchscreen and a 50-sheet reversing duplex document feeder. A recommended 3,000–10,000 pages per month provides a useful starting point for judging its intended routine.
The scanner glass and feeder both explicitly accept originals through Legal size. That makes it useful for larger office originals, but the feeder reverses sheets rather than capturing both sides in one pass. Wi-Fi remains optional, and this discontinued machine requires checking the offered unit's software and service condition.
Choose the glass or feeder for the original
Load ordinary multipage originals faceup, short edge first, in the ADF and adjust the guides. It accepts Letter, Legal and A4 within the documented size range and uses the selected original-side setting for duplex scanning. The 50-sheet capacity is separate from the printer's paper drawers.
Use the glass for single pages, small items, photos and thin clippings. It supports originals through 8.5×14 inches and books within the guide's one-inch thickness limit. Place the original facedown in the upper-left corner. Copying lets you select the output size and sides separately; a two-sided print setting does not itself specify the original's scan sides.
The reviewed computer-scanning routine creates a network scan profile in the Embedded Web Server. Choose the destination, original size, color and sides, then select the saved profile at the machine. Check actual network access and browser compatibility. A USB computer-print connection does not by itself establish a USB scanning workflow, while front flash-drive scanning has a different destination.
Load ordinary stock and envelopes as separate jobs
The included 550-sheet tray and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 650 ordinary sheets on the maker's 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. The original tables explicitly support Letter, Legal and A4 in both sources and automatic duplex. Set the actual size and type manually where required rather than trusting a previous load.
Matching stock and size/type settings, with MP Cassette mode, allow combined ordinary feeding. A second stock or envelope load replaces the feeder's first stack. Up to ten suitable envelopes use the instructed one-sided multipurpose routine; envelopes and several other specialty media do not use automatic duplex.
The standard output bin holds 250 sheets, so collection may be needed before the ordinary input empties. The 4,300-sheet maximum input requires optional drawers and appropriate support arrangements. The extra drawer standard on an X748dte should not be assigned to this de configuration.
Separate confidential computer jobs from basic AirPrint
USB Type-B serves computer printing and gigabit Ethernet serves the wired network. Type-A host ports support their own devices and routines. Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing can submit a user name and four-digit PIN, then release the confidential job locally. Held jobs can be removed under memory pressure; inspect the included disk separately when storage-dependent controls matter.
The exact model lists AirPrint. Basic mobile output can use Ethernet on a suitable shared network when the app offers printing. That arrangement does not establish mobile scanning, every paper or duplex option, or PIN submission. Confirm those requirements through the actual app and firmware rather than borrowing the computer driver's features.
Analog fax separately needs an active compatible phone service connected to LINE, with station details configured. Follow the appropriate regional telephone instructions. Ethernet is not a substitute for the telephone path.
Check rates, supplies and commercial placement
Lexmark declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color and separately 23 black Letter duplex sides per minute. Reversing duplex scanning has its own 12-sides-per-minute Letter figure. The 100,000-page maximum monthly duty rating does not replace the recommended 10,000-page ceiling.
The exact US supplied toner declares 12,000 black and 10,000 composite CMY pages; replacements declare 12,000 black and 7,000 or 10,000 CMY pages under ISO/IEC 19798 in continuous one-sided mode. Photoconductors, the waste bottle, fuser, transfer module and ADF wear parts require separate checks. The guide says to replace all four photoconductors together.
The manufacturer specifies commercial Class A placement rather than residential use. Allow suitable support and operating clearance for the 97.5-pound body, and verify electrical labeling, voltage-specific parts, software and disk condition before reuse.
