B420dn (91642903)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired computer routine needing a larger included paper supply and automatic two-sided Legal documents.

The main tradeoff

No scanner or confirmed native wireless/mobile routine. The extra 530-sheet drawer is optional, and maximum duty is separate from recommended volume.

A larger included paper supply is the B420dn's practical advantage

The OKI B420dn is an earlier monochrome LED printer with built-in Ethernet and automatic two-sided printing. Its standout configuration difference is a 530-sheet cassette plus a 50-sheet multipurpose feeder, giving 580 ordinary sheets without purchasing another drawer.

This review covers the black 120V unit, manufacturer part 91642903. It is a dedicated printer, with no scanner, copier, fax or feeder for originals. Its value is in an established computer document routine that benefits from the included paper supply and supported duplex path.

580 sheets are included; the 1,110-sheet total is expanded

The 530-sheet main cassette is larger than the 250-sheet cassette used on certain neighboring models in the B400 range. The separate 50-sheet multipurpose feeder can be used for the instructed special-media routine rather than repeatedly replacing the paper in the main drawer.

A second 530-sheet cassette is optional. Adding it raises the configured maximum to 1,110 sheets and changes the installed size. Do not assume the extra drawer is included because an expanded illustration or maximum-capacity figure appears in an offer. The ordinary-paper capacities also do not describe how many envelopes or heavy sheets can be loaded under every condition.

Automatic Legal duplex is specifically documented

The original automatic-duplex procedure names Letter, Legal 13, Legal 14 and A4, using suitable paper in the stated 60–105gsm range. It describes choosing the appropriate source and long-edge or short-edge automatic binding in the compatible Windows PCL driver.

This supplies the extra confirmation needed for two-sided Legal documents. A general Legal paper listing would not be enough on its own. Envelopes have a separate multipurpose-feeder procedure and should not be selected for automatic duplex; paper size, type, weight and output settings still need to agree.

Wired sharing is standard; the mobile features are a separate question

The exact B420dn includes USB, parallel and a 10/100 Ethernet print server. A compatible computer can use the appropriate direct or configured wired-network arrangement. The interface chapter specifically identifies the B420dn's LAN connection.

Wi-Fi, native AirPrint, Mopria and a verified PIN-release routine are not established by the reviewed sources. A network interface, LCD or printer-management utility should not be used as a substitute for confirmation of those separate functions. The printer also cannot scan simply because it can receive print jobs over Ethernet.

30ppm and the monthly maximum answer different questions

The original guide declares 30 pages per minute on Letter and 28 on A4 for one-sided output. Those are manufacturer figures, not our timed results, automatic-duplex rates or complete-job measurements. The 70,000-page monthly maximum duty cycle is not a recommended sustained monthly workload.

PCL5e/PCL6 and the documented legacy printer emulations may be relevant to an existing software environment. PostScript 3 belongs to the B430dn in the same family table and should not be borrowed for the B420dn. Check current compatible drivers rather than assuming that an old operating-system list covers today's computers.

Use the exact US body and consumable references

The Americas brochure gives a body of 14.5×15.6×11.7 inches and 24lb for this configuration. Optional drawers, paper loading, rear output, cables and maintenance require additional space. Match the actual 120V label rather than substituting the separately listed 220V edition.

The toner and image drum are separate. The later exact-model brochure lists a 1,500-page starter and replacement toner declarations of 3,500, 7,000 and 12,000 pages; an older family brochure used a different high-capacity figure. Confirm the actual cartridge part code and compatible supplies. Neither a historical yield nor a maximum-duty statement establishes remaining component life, current availability or today's printing cost.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided output is 30 ppm Letter and 28 ppm A4. The 70000-page maximum duty is not an established recommended monthly volume.

Paper handling

Included input is 530 cassette plus 50 multipurpose sheets, totaling 580. The optional 530-sheet drawer raises capacity to 1110. Letter, Legal 13/14 and A4 automatic duplex use suitable 60–105 gsm stock; envelopes do not duplex.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated monochrome LED printer without scanning, copying, fax or document-feeder hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact B420dn includes computer USB, parallel and 10/100 Ethernet. Detailed LAN instructions govern the family introduction. Native AirPrint, Mopria, wireless and PIN release remain unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

The later exact brochure lists a 1500-page starter and 3500/7000/12000 replacement toner, while the earlier family brochure lists a different high-capacity yield. Match the actual cartridge part; no remaining-life or current-cost claim is made.

Software and support

PCL and legacy printer emulations are documented. PostScript belongs to the B430dn family column. Check the current driver separately from historical OS lists.

Electrical edition and setup

The US black 120 V model is part 91642903. Its exact Americas body reference is 14.5 × 15.6 × 11.7 inches, 24 lb, differing from older generic guide figures. Optional drawers add height and weight.
