Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the ordinary USB B4400 print Letter documents from a documented 250-sheet cassette?

Yes. The operating guide supports suitable Letter stock in its included cassette. The driver and B4400 Status Monitor need a compatible installation.

Does the base B4400 include the network server identified for B4400n?

No. The ordinary model lists that server as optional, so an included Ethernet requirement is not met.

Can the optional second cassette be counted as an included 750-sheet reserve?

No. The standard configuration is assessed at the maker’s 250-sheet headline; the additional cassette is an accessory.

Plan for a computer-based status display

The OKI B4400 is an earlier monochrome LED printer whose simple front panel affects everyday use. The original guide describes four indicator lights and an OnLine button. Detailed status and many settings come through the B4400 Status Monitor on a compatible computer, rather than a text display on the printer itself.

That arrangement can suit a nearby desk where the operator already watches the computer. It makes the monitoring software part of a practical installation, especially when interpreting paper, toner and drum warnings. Verify that the intended system supports the complete driver and monitoring combination.

USB is ordinary; Ethernet requires an addition

The exact standard B4400 has USB and parallel interfaces. The maker lists its network server as optional and identifies B4400n separately. An Ethernet socket shown in a family illustration is consequently not proof that the ordinary B4400 includes one.

The documented USB installation calls for the driver and Status Monitor before the cable is attached. Follow the exact installation sequence for the supported software rather than assuming that a generic print queue provides the same controls. The guide's named Windows systems are historic, so present compatibility requires its own check.

Keep language and toner options within the right column

The brochure lists standard PCL emulations for the B4400. Its comparison table does not offer the PostScript option available to certain B4600 configurations. If an application depends on PostScript processing, establish another supported arrangement rather than selecting a neighboring model's option in software.

The same caution applies to supplies. The B4400's declared toner capacity is 3,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The family's 7,000-page cartridge is identified for B4600 models only. A larger number on a shared brochure cover does not establish a compatible high-capacity refill for this machine.

The covered tray is the ordinary paper reserve

The included cassette holds up to 250 suitable ordinary sheets and supports Letter, Legal and A4. Set the guides and rear stopper for the actual stock and stay below the fill mark. The separate manual input accepts one sheet at a time; it does not create an additional unattended paper stack.

The 500-sheet second cassette and front multipurpose feeder are options. A used installation may include accessories, but their presence and driver settings must be checked. When using two ordinary trays for automatic continuation, the manual requires matching media settings rather than unrelated paper sizes silently substituting for one another.

Output handling matters for envelopes and heavy stock

Suitable envelopes use manual input and the rear, face-up exit. Heavy materials also need the straighter path, and labels and transparencies have their own heat and construction restrictions. Ordinary paper support cannot be applied to every special material.

The rear exit changes output routing regardless of the driver selection. It also changes how pages stack, so make sure a short sample is in the intended order before sending a packet. Allow room behind the body for that exit and for the Legal-paper extension.

Treat duplex and workload as separate requirements

The original recommendations advise against putting a sheet through twice. The read evidence does not establish automatic duplex, and a home-made reinsertion routine is not presented here as a supported replacement. A requirement for unattended two-sided output remains unmet by the documented configuration.

The maker advertises up to 27 pages per minute without establishing a Letter-specific rate in these sections. Its monthly duty ceiling is not a recommended workload. The separate image drum also has a continuous-printing life assumption, so cartridge capacity, engine speed and remaining mechanical condition need separate consideration.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact B4400 is assigned the maker maximum of 27 pages/minute, but Letter-specific conditions are not established in the read sections. The 40,000-page monthly duty ceiling is separate from an unestablished recommended monthly interval.

Paper handling

The standard headline is a 250-sheet cassette, with a separate manual single-sheet input. The ordinary cassette supports Letter, Legal and A4; suitable paper and guides are required. A 500-sheet second tray and front multipurpose feeder are optional. Special media use manual input and rear output. The original paper recommendations advise against a second trip through the engine; automatic print duplex remains unconfirmed.

Scanning arrangement

The exact B4400 is a print-only monochrome LED device. It has no integrated capture glass, ADF, copying or fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

The ordinary B4400 includes USB and parallel. Ethernet is optional here, whereas the separate B4400n includes a network server. No wireless or native mobile-printing route is established for this base configuration.

Supplies and declared yields

The maker brochure declares 3,000-page toner under ISO/IEC 19752 and says the printer ships with that standard cartridge. Its 7,000-page high-capacity toner applies only to B4600 models, not this B4400. The separate 25,000-page drum estimate uses continuous printing and varies with pages per job.

Software and support

Four indicator LEDs and the OnLine button provide basic physical status; the B4400 Status Monitor supplies detailed status and menu controls on a compatible computer. The actual USB procedure installs the driver and Status Monitor before connecting the cable. PCL emulations are listed, but the brochure explicitly gives B4400 no PostScript option. Check the exact driver and monitoring software on a current computer.

Electrical edition and setup

The exact ordinary B4400 ordering row 62427001 specifies 120 V. The maker B4400 body is 14 × 15.6 × 7.9 inches, with additional operating space needed for Legal extension, rear output and service. Complete loaded weight is not established; differing edition weight figures are not combined.
