The OKI C831dn is the C831 configuration with its automatic duplex unit included. The original Americas brochure assigns it 120 V part number 62441004. The nearby C831n lists duplex as an option, so the two names represent different ordinary configurations.
The actual operating guide supports automatic two-sided Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid printing. This makes dn relevant to compatible wired workgroups preparing larger color documents as well as ordinary office pages. It does not establish a scanner or an automatic document feeder.
The driver and material still decide the result
The advanced manual gives actual long-edge and short-edge procedures for compatible Windows PCL, PostScript and XPS drivers, plus Mac PostScript. Choose the binding that matches the document orientation and intended reading direction. A two-sided menu alone does not correct an unsuitable application layout.
Suitable duplex weight is 64–220 gsm. The list excludes A6, envelopes and index cards, even though some of those materials can print one-sided. The multipurpose source's higher one-sided weight allowance is not a duplex allowance.
For custom dimensions, the duplex range is narrower than the full multipurpose range. A long banner accepted through the prescribed one-sided path therefore does not acquire automatic duplex merely because its width fits the printer.
Included input remains four hundred sheets
The ordinary configuration has a 300-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose source at 80 gsm. Both individually name the five ordinary sizes above. A Tabloid requirement can therefore be assessed against actual Tabloid input rather than an unrelated Letter-only capacity.
The original Americas expansion headline counts optional 530-sheet cassettes. Those are not included in the 400-sheet figure. A later shared setup describes an additional optional position; verify any expanded regional arrangement separately instead of treating the greatest family capacity as standard.
Confidential release needs storage as well as a keypad
The brochure promotes Secure Print, but its footnote and actual operating chapter require an optional SD memory card. Supported Windows PCL or PostScript drivers can then hold a job until its password is entered at the panel. XPS and Mac PostScript are explicitly excluded from that workflow.
The ordinary included C831dn therefore does not meet a PIN-release requirement in this assessment. A numeric keypad, network encryption or accounting controls cannot replace the documented storage prerequisite. Adding a duplex unit and adding secure-job storage solve different needs.
Expect wired desktop installation and special-media setup
USB and 10/100 Ethernet are the included computer connections. Use an exact compatible desktop driver and verify operation on the intended computer. Native AirPrint, Mopria and included wireless are not established by the original evidence here; the brochure's separate MotionPrint name is not substituted for them.
Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose source and rear face-up exit with their prescribed flap orientation. Change the driver source, paper type, size and orientation together. The actual manual recommends checking the result because an envelope can crease or warp after printing.
Use the loaded weight and declared supply basis
The 40 kg loaded weight applies to the arrangement with duplex, matching dn. The lighter 37 kg value belongs to the arrangement without it. Plan two-person lifting and sufficient space for open sources, rear output and service beyond the closed body dimensions.
Starter toner, replacement toner and drums have different declarations. Drum life assumes three-page jobs, while replacement toner follows stated ISO conditions. The 75,000-page maximum monthly duty is a separate ceiling and does not establish a recommended monthly interval or measured operating cost.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The exact Americas brochure declares 35 Letter/A4 and 20 Tabloid/A3 ppm in color or black-and-white, without the strict explicit Letter simplex basis established here. Actual setup specifies 35 ppm A4 simplex and 27 ppm duplex. Its 75000-page monthly maximum duty is not a recommended interval.
Paper handling
C831dn includes automatic duplex and 300-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet multipurpose input at 80 gsm. Actual source and duplex lists independently name Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid. Duplex suitable weight is 64–220 gsm; A6, envelopes and index cards are excluded. Optional 530-sheet cassettes are excluded from included 400-sheet capacity. Multipurpose one-sided media reaches 256 gsm under its own limits.
Scanning arrangement
The exact C831dn is print-only. Single Pass Color refers to multilevel LED printing and does not supply a glass, feeder, document capture, copying or fax.
Computer and mobile connections
USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet are included with actual compatible desktop driver setup procedures. No included Wi-Fi or verified native AirPrint/Mopria route is established. Brochure Motion Print and generic IPP/Bonjour do not prove those services.
Supplies and declared yields
The original Americas declaration gives four 2500-page starter cartridges and four 10000-page replacement cartridges under ISO 19798 conditions. Four separate drums are estimated at 30000 pages each based on three-page jobs. Supply yields are not tested running costs or a monthly usage recommendation.
Software and support
Actual Windows PCL/PS/XPS and Mac PS procedures provide long- or short-edge duplex on supported media. Secure Print is different: it requires an optional SD card and supports Windows PCL/PS, explicitly excluding XPS and Mac PS. Included dn is therefore not assigned PIN release. Optional hardware must also be reflected in driver device settings.
Electrical edition and setup
The exact US Americas table maps C831dn 62441004 to 120 V. Actual setup gives the with-duplex loaded mass as 40 kg, rather than the 37 kg without-duplex arrangement. Body measures 449 × 552 × 360 mm; two people and extra tray, output, ventilation and maintenance access are required.
