Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can ordinary wired C831n print color Tabloid documents with 400 suitable ordinary sheets in its included sources?
Yes. The exact operating table names Tabloid in both the 300-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose source at 80 gsm. Extra cassettes are excluded.
Explore this need in the finder →Does C831n include automatic Tabloid duplex because the shared manual explains it?
No. The exact Americas variant table says the duplex unit is optional on n. The included dn arrangement is a different configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the ordinary included machine hold jobs for PIN release without buying storage?
No. Actual Secure Print instructions require the optional SD card. The numeric panel alone does not provide the missing storage.
Explore this need in the finder →The n version starts with one-sided printing
The OKI C831n provides color LED printing on ordinary Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid paper. Its exact Americas ordering number is 62441001 for 120 V. The original family brochure explicitly calls the duplex unit optional on C831n and standard on C831dn.
That suffix distinction should lead the decision. An ordinary C831n does not satisfy an included automatic two-sided printing requirement. A driver screenshot or a shared-manual duplex chapter describes a supported equipped configuration, not proof that every n unit contains the hardware.
Four hundred sheets are included across both sources
The included cassette holds 300 suitable ordinary sheets and the multipurpose source holds another 100 at the manual's 80 gsm basis. Both actual size lists include Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid. Thus a large-format ordinary-paper job can use the documented included sources without assuming an extra cassette.
The Americas brochure advertises 1,460 sheets only with optional second and third 530-sheet trays. A later shared setup also describes an additional optional position. Neither statement increases the included configuration assessed here. Check the exact regional hardware and installed options before treating an expanded machine as equivalent.
Heavy paper, envelopes and banners have different rules
The standard cassette reaches 220 gsm under its conditions, while the multipurpose source reaches 256 gsm. Those material limits are separate from ordinary-sheet stack capacity. Very thick stock does not retain a 100-sheet loading allowance merely because its weight is accepted.
Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose source and rear face-up exit. The actual guide specifies different flap orientations for common envelope types and excludes window constructions. Match the type, size, source and orientation in the compatible driver; do not select duplex.
The printer also accepts prescribed long banners. Such sheets need the appropriate custom dimensions, material and open output path, with space beyond the closed body. Banner length is not a promise that the enclosed cassette takes the same sheet.
A keypad does not include confidential-job storage
The numeric panel can release supported Secure Print jobs, but the actual advanced instructions require the optional SD memory card kit. Compatible Windows PCL and PostScript drivers supply the documented workflow, while Windows XPS and Mac PostScript are excluded from it.
Without that optional card, ordinary C831n is not assigned PIN-release capability. Network encryption and accounting are separate controls. Likewise, knowing that a machine has a keypad does not establish that the requested job is held privately until its owner arrives.
Use a compatible wired desktop setup
The included computer connections are USB and 10/100 Ethernet. The actual setup describes installing and configuring compatible desktop drivers individually on those routes. No included wireless connection or verified native AirPrint or Mopria workflow is established here.
The brochure's MotionPrint name is not treated as evidence of either modern native service. This earlier printer needs an exact driver and intended-computer check. It is also print-only: Single Pass Color describes putting toner on paper, not scanning both document sides.
Plan supplies, workload and access separately
The original Americas brochure declares 2,500-page starters, separate 10,000-page replacement cartridges and drum estimates based on three-page jobs. These are different supply assumptions. Its 75,000-page monthly maximum duty does not establish a recommended continuous workload.
The 37 kg loaded weight applies without the duplex unit, matching the ordinary n arrangement. Allow two-person lifting and room for output, trays and service. The closed body dimensions alone do not describe all the space needed while printing large sheets.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The Americas brochure declares up to 35 Letter/A4 pages and 20 Tabloid/A3 pages per minute in color or black-and-white. The operating manual explicitly specifies A4 simplex 35/duplex 27 with appropriate hardware. The strict Letter simplex basis remains unestablished. Maximum duty is 75000 pages/month, not a recommended interval.
Paper handling
The exact C831n includes a 300-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet multipurpose source at 80 gsm, both naming Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid. Duplex is optional on n and excluded from included matching. The 2013 Americas brochure advertises optional second and third 530-sheet trays and 1460 maximum; later setup mentions another optional position. No optional cassette capacity is counted. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose source and rear face-up exit, never duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Single Pass Color is the LED printing engine description. The exact C831n is print-only, without a document scanner, glass, feeder, copying or fax.
Computer and mobile connections
USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet are included. Actual setup provides USB and network desktop driver installation. No included wireless or verified native AirPrint/Mopria route is established; the earlier Motion Print brochure name is not substituted for them.
Supplies and declared yields
The exact Americas brochure gives 2500-page starters and four separate 10000-page CMYK replacements under stated ISO 19798 conditions. Four separate drums have an approximate 30000-page estimate at three pages per job. These are declarations, not tested cost estimates.
Software and support
PCL and PostScript emulations are included; driver functions differ. Actual Secure Print requires the optional SD memory card and supported Windows PCL/PS, with XPS and Mac PS excluded. Ordinary n without the card is not assigned password release. Network encryption, accounting and the numeric keypad are different from an included held-job workflow.
Electrical edition and setup
The exact Americas part table maps C831n 62441001 to 120 V; C831dn is 62441004. Actual setup distinguishes low/high-voltage model codes and gives body 449 × 552 × 360 mm. C831n weighs 37 kg including consumables without a duplex unit, versus 40 kg with one. Two-person lifting and additional tray, rear-output, ventilation and service clearance apply.
