Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a configured Ethernet computer-folder workflow print Legal monochrome duplex and capture Legal color originals through the feeder with 580 ordinary sheets available?
Yes. The exact MB480 table gives 530 plus 50 standard input, and actual operating chapters support Legal print duplex and network folder capture. Originals use the simplex feeder; automatic two-sided capture is not included in this requirement.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Legal originals use the flatbed simply because the feeder accepts Legal?
No. The actual glass area supports Letter and A4, while Legal is a feeder size. Those physical paths have different limits.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its automatic print duplex unit establish automatic two-sided document capture?
No. The confirmed scanner route is a simplex ADF. The selected original does not establish automatic duplex capture, so it cannot meet that requirement here.
Explore this need in the finder →Network filing and network-controlled scanning are different
The OKI MB480 is a monochrome multifunction printer with a color scanner, copier and fax. Its actual operating guide supports sending a scan to a computer folder through FTP or CIFS. That is a configured filing destination selected at the machine.
The same guide explicitly limits its TWAIN scanner driver to Windows over USB. It says that the computer cannot control this scanner through TWAIN over the network. A supported network folder therefore does not establish a network TWAIN installation, and a USB scanner driver cannot be borrowed into the Ethernet plan.
The filing specification allows up to twenty server profiles and separates color or grayscale settings from higher-resolution binary monochrome settings. Choose the file format and resolution for the actual destination. A maximum optical scanner resolution is not a promise that every network filing mode offers that resolution in color.
Install both devices for direct USB work
Windows sees the MFP as a printer and a scanner, requiring two different drivers. The actual installer sequence supplies TWAIN and printing separately. ActKey then provides application, folder and other destinations according to its configured buttons.
For this USB route, verify the scanner utility as well as a successful print. The original setup instructions also describe the Windows Image Acquisition service for certain server installations. A machine that prints can still have an incomplete capture setup.
The feeder captures Legal; the glass has a shorter limit
The actual scanner table identifies a color CCD and a 50-sheet simplex feeder. Letter, Legal and A4 originals are supported in that feeder, while the glass supports Letter and A4. A complete Legal original does not fit its documented glass capture area.
Automatic print duplex is a separate feature. The selected original does not establish automatic two-sided document capture or single-pass scanning. A workflow that needs both sides of originals captured automatically is therefore outside the confirmed feeder route here.
Use the glass for suitable irregular originals that cannot pass through the feeder. Keep clips, staples, damp ink and damaged paper out of the document path, and release the scanner's physical shipping lock before use.
MB480 has the larger included cassette
The family guide distinguishes MB480's 530-sheet main tray from the 250-sheet trays on MB460 and MB470. Its multipurpose source adds 50 ordinary sheets, for 580 included sheets at the stated paper condition. A second 530-sheet cassette remains optional.
Both included sources support ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. For envelopes, follow the separate loading orientation and ten-envelope stack limit. Select the actual tray size and media type; envelope support does not permit duplex envelopes.
Automatic print duplex is positively documented
The introduction lists automatic two-sided printing among included features, and the actual Windows PCL procedure provides long-edge or short-edge automatic selection. It explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4.
The operating chapter specifies suitable 75–105 gsm paper. A later summary table gives a broader lower weight limit, so this assessment retains the narrower operating condition. The heavier material allowed through the one-sided multipurpose path is not automatically duplex stock.
Use the MB480 maintenance figures without changing their meaning
The exact US record and operating guide offer 3,500- and 7,000-page replacement toner, plus a 12,000-page option specifically for MB480. These A4 declarations use ISO/IEC 19752. The separate drum estimate assumes continuous printing, while included starter yield remains unknown.
The 70,000-page monthly maximum is distinct from the printer-life declaration and from a recommended volume, which is unestablished. The Letter engine and copy figures also measure different operations. Check the actual electrical label and allow working clearance around the taller MB480 body before planning an earlier installation.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The exact operating specification separates Letter 30 ppm from A4 28 ppm but does not explicitly establish one-sided measurement conditions, so the strict Letter simplex field remains unknown. The 22 Letter/21 A4 copy figures measure another operation. MB480 maximum monthly duty is 70000 pages, separate from the 200000-page/five-year printer-life declaration; recommended volume is unestablished.
Paper handling
MB480 includes a 530-sheet cassette and 50-sheet multipurpose source at 75 gsm, for 580 ordinary sheets; Letter, Legal and A4 are documented in both. The optional second 530-sheet cassette is excluded. Actual automatic desktop duplex supports those sizes at 75–105 gsm; the later 60–105 gsm specification is broader, so the operating chapter governs. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray with at most ten suitable envelopes within 10 mm, without duplex.
Scanning arrangement
The exact scanner table identifies a color CCD with a CCFL light source and a 50-sheet simplex ADF. Letter, Legal and A4 feeder capture is supported; glass capture supports Letter and A4, not Legal. Automatic two-sided capture and single-pass operation are unestablished and are not inferred from the print duplex unit.
Computer and mobile connections
The actual unit has USB, 10/100 Ethernet and parallel. USB computer capture is Windows TWAIN/ActKey only; the guide explicitly says TWAIN cannot control this scanner over the network. Network PC filing is a separate positive FTP/CIFS computer-folder route with a configured profile. Bonjour and network printing alone do not establish native AirPrint.
Supplies and declared yields
The exact Americas guide and current US support record declare 3500 or 7000 A4 replacement pages under ISO/IEC 19752, plus a 12000-page choice specifically for MB480. Drum life is 25000 A4 pages under continuous printing in the exact US record. Included starter yield remains unknown; replacement, drum and monthly duty declarations are not interchangeable.
Software and support
The selected USB Windows plan installs both printer and scanner drivers; the Ethernet plan combines compatible desktop printing with configured network-folder filing. The actual operating guide warns that the MFP is a dual device requiring separate drivers. Access-control Password/PIN at panel login and encrypted network passwords are not treated as held confidential print-job release.
Electrical edition and setup
The actual Americas operating specification lists 120 V and 220–240 V versions; this assessment selects the 120 V configuration. MB480 body dimensions are 17.6 × 17 × 20.8 inches, taller than MB460/MB470. The approximate 19 kg mass lacks a clear loaded basis and is left unknown. Release the physical scanner lock before use, and allow feeder, rear output and service access.
