Aficio AP610N (402338, US)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office routine needing ordinary A3 or Tabloid output without assuming optional modules are included.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex, private PIN collection and wireless networking each require optional hardware.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can standard Ethernet hardware print monochrome Tabloid documents with 600 included sheets?

Yes. The ordinary wide-paper trays and included 600-sheet configuration are documented.

Is automatic duplex included in the basic AP610N?

No. The original brochure explicitly requires the optional AD610 duplex unit.

Does standard memory establish private PIN collection without the optional disk?

No. Locked Print explicitly requires the optional 20 GB hard disk.

A wide-paper monochrome printer whose options matter

The Ricoh Aficio AP610N is an earlier monochrome laser printer for compatible wired office work. It accepts larger paper alongside everyday documents and includes 600 input sheets. The important buying distinction is how much of a fully configured machine is actually present: automatic duplex, wireless and private password release depend on separate options.

This assessment concerns US part 402338 and its 120V/60Hz configuration. The machine prints; it is not a scanner, copier or fax. A network utility or a USB connection does not add those physical functions.

Use the included wide-paper capacity before counting extra drawers

The standard 500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass total 600 sheets. Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and 11 ×17-inch Tabloid are listed for the ordinary trays. That is useful for spreadsheets, layouts or drawings that need more width than a typical small printer provides.

One or two optional 500-sheet paper units explain the 1600-sheet expanded maximum. They are additional hardware, not the starting configuration. Output holds 250 face-down sheets, so a large loaded input does not eliminate collection during a long run.

Envelopes have their own routes. The bypass can accept up to 10, while the optional 60-envelope cassette requires an optional paper-feed unit. An offer mentioning envelope capability should not be read as including that complete extra assembly.

Automatic two-sided printing needs the AD610 unit

The brochure lists a duplex speed and two-sided driver features, but its footnotes explicitly require the optional duplex unit. The base AP610N therefore should not satisfy an essential automatic-duplex questionnaire answer merely because the family supports the upgrade.

If the AD610 is fitted, check its stated paper sizes and weights against the actual job. Additional memory is recommended for highest-resolution two-sided output. Neither an optional accessory description nor a productivity statement establishes that the accessory is supplied with a particular used printer.

Private PIN collection requires the optional hard disk

The original source gives an explicit privacy workflow: Locked Print suspends output until a PIN is entered at the printer panel. It also explicitly requires the optional 20GB hard disk. Standard 128MB memory and a higher memory option are different hardware and do not satisfy that storage condition.

The same disk supports additional functions such as sample printing and job spooling. Network encryption and password-protected PDF handling solve different problems. They should not be substituted for panel-controlled collection when sensitive documents must stay out of a shared output tray.

Choose a supported wired setup and check legacy software carefully

USB, Ethernet and a parallel interface are standard. Wireless LAN, Bluetooth and IEEE1394 are options, with only one additional interface installable. Historical ad-hoc laptop access and Rendezvous discovery do not establish present-day native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct support.

Genuine Adobe PostScript 3 is named alongside PCL and Ricoh RPCS. That can matter to an established document workflow, but it does not guarantee a current driver for every operating system. Confirm the exact connection, software and network policy before treating an older machine as ready for daily work.

Evaluate condition and supplies rather than a headline running cost

The manufacturer declares 35ppm without an independently explicit paper-size condition in this source. It is not converted into a specific Letter or A4 speed. A first-page declaration is also different from completing a mixed office job.

The listed body is 18.8 ×17.2 ×13.5 inches and 44 pounds. Leave room for wide paper, cables and front maintenance. Starter toner is declared at 6000 pages and replacement Type 115 at 20000, both under the stated five-percent-coverage basis. A separate maintenance kit has its own service interval. Choose an AP610N around confirmed wired wide-paper output, and verify every optional module, supplied consumable and actual machine condition before purchase.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Manufacturer-declared 35 ppm with paper-size condition not independently explicit; no invented Letter/A4 field. Optional duplex productivity is a separate configured-hardware statement. No recommended monthly range or numeric duty established.

Paper handling

500-sheet main cassette plus 100-sheet bypass=600 included. Standard trays list Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A4, A3; two optional 500-sheet banks expand1600. Automatic duplex requires optional AD610402343; optional envelope cassette needs an optional paper feed unit. Bypass accepts up to 10 envelopes.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated monochrome laser printer without scanner, feeder, copy or fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB, Ethernet and parallel are standard. Wireless, Bluetooth and IEEE1394 are optional, with only one additional interface permitted. Legacy discovery protocols do not establish native mobile printing.

Supplies and declared yields

Starter and replacement toner use stated 5% coverage declarations, not an asserted ISO 19752 condition. Maintenance kit and toner yields do not establish remaining life or current page cost.

Software and support

The original controller supports the stated Adobe/PCL/RPCS/PDF arrangements. The documented PIN-held workflow requires optional 20 GB HDD Type2600; network/PDF encryption is a separate feature.

Electrical edition and setup

US AP610N 402338 uses 120 V, 60 Hz. Main body: 18.8 × 17.2 × 13.5 inches, 44 lb with inclusion basis unspecified. Extra paper units increase height.
