The Ricoh Aficio SP5200DN is an earlier print-only monochrome laser machine. Its 650-sheet standard input and included automatic two-sided output through Legal can suit a compatible office document routine. It does not include the scanning hardware of the separately named SP5200S multifunction model.
This assessment concerns US part 406722. The nearby 5210DN has a different declared output rate, more standard memory and an included hard disk. Those differences affect private document collection and should remain visible when comparing older offers.
Use 650 included sheets before counting expanded capacity
The standard 550-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass total 650 sheets. Optional 550-sheet banks support larger configurations, but the floor-standing 2850-sheet maximum requires the specified bottom caster unit and additional banks. Desktop placement has a different stacking limit.
The caster unit's stabilizers also make the floor footprint larger than the printer body. A headline input number therefore carries installation consequences. Confirm which units are supplied and how they can be safely arranged rather than assuming a photograph or maximum-capacity claim describes the base machine.
Automatic duplex supports ordinary Legal documents within media limits
Standard automatic two-sided output extends through 8.5 ×14 inches, supporting ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 under the stated conditions. The duplex weight range is 60–163gsm, narrower than the broader one-sided range. Envelopes and heavier media still need the instructed route and settings.
The bypass's longer custom-sheet allowance does not create wider A3 capability. The 500-sheet output tray is another separate limit: expanded input can remain loaded after the exit needs clearing. Plan for paper loading and finished-page collection as distinct parts of a longer run.
Private password collection requires the optional disk
The brochure describes holding jobs until user ID and password entry at the printer. The 80GB disk supporting the private workflow is optional on the 5200DN and standard on the 5210DN. A basic 5200DN therefore should not qualify an essential private-PIN requirement merely because the family brochure describes it.
The included 256MB memory and a higher RAM option are not the same as that disk. Storage encryption and data overwrite also belong to their documented configuration. Check the exact installed hardware, compatible driver and administrator settings before relying on controlled document collection.
Standard Ethernet is different from optional networking upgrades
USB computer printing and 100Mbps Ethernet are included. Wireless LAN, Gigabit Ethernet and a parallel interface are options. The visible USB host port serves different tasks from the computer interface and does not add a scanner.
Genuine Adobe PostScript 3, PCL, XPS and PDF Direct are documented, with IPDS optional. Historical AppleTalk and operating-system lists do not establish native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct. Choose a confirmed exact-model software route for the computers and network actually in use.

The manufacturer declares 47ppm Letter output for the 5200DN, rather than the 5210DN's 52ppm. Its listed monthly print-volume range and 200000-print maximum duty figure describe different workload measures. They do not guarantee complete mixed-job speed or establish the condition of an individual machine.
The 120–127V/60Hz body measures 16.2 ×17.1 ×15.75 inches and weighs 51 pounds with the print cartridge. Leave working access and allow extra space for installed banks. The starter is declared at 6000 prints and replacement all-in-one cartridge at 25000 under the stated standard; a separate maintenance kit covers other wear components. Choose the 5200DN for supported wired monochrome work and included Legal duplex, while checking accessories, software and remaining service needs individually.
