The Ricoh Aficio SP5200S combines monochrome laser printing, copying and color scanning. The base US406851 configuration includes 650 input sheets, a 50-sheet reversing document feeder and a 128GB disk. Fax is optional, rather than included merely because other members of the family provide it.
The 5200S also differs from the 5210SF and 5210SR in its declared rate, output arrangement and panel configuration. Its color touchscreen has fixed placement; the adjustable-panel description belongs to the other named models. These distinctions should remain visible when comparing older offers.
Use the feeder for two-sided Legal originals
The reversing feeder supports ordinary originals through 8.5 ×14-inch Legal and can capture both sides automatically. It is not single-pass scanning. The much longer custom-original allowance is explicitly simplex-only, so it should not be borrowed into a two-sided scanning requirement.
The glass supports Letter and A4 through 216 ×297mm. Legal glass capture is not established. Network TWAIN and folder destinations provide documented computer-scanning routes; configure the actual supported software and destination instead of assuming a USB memory-output feature establishes USB computer capture.
Included 650-sheet input is different from 2300-sheet expansion
A550-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet bypass gives 650 included sheets. Up to three extra 550-sheet banks explain the 2300-sheet maximum, with the specified installation assistance and caster arrangement. They are additional hardware to confirm in an offer, not part of every basic printer.
The 5200S output tray holds 500 sheets. The 600-sheet arrangement of the 5210SF and the finishing output of the 5210SR should not be transferred to it. Long bypass sheets also retain a limited width: more length does not create wide A3 output.
Automatic duplex supports ordinary Legal output within media limits
Standard automatic two-sided printing extends through 8.5 ×14-inch Legal, supporting ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 within the stated conditions. The duplex weight range is 60–163gsm, narrower than the one-sided range available from the paper sources.
Envelopes and thick media therefore still need the instructed route and settings. Printer paper, scanner originals and finishing sheets have different constraints. Treating every maximum in the family brochure as one simultaneous configuration would give an unreliable recommendation.
Storage, private collection and fax need separate checks
The included 1GB memory and 128GB disk support a different configuration from a storage-free printer. However, naming Secure Print does not settle a precise base-model PIN-entry procedure here. The separately described Enhanced Locked Print NX workflow is optional software and should not be counted as included.
Fax requires the SP5200 option on the 5200S. A standard disk, a large panel or network protocols do not replace that fax hardware. If private collection or fax is essential, verify the exact installed feature and supported workflow before choosing an individual machine.
Prefer a confirmed wired setup and check service condition
USB printing and 100Mbps Ethernet are standard. Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth are options. Older Bonjour support does not establish native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct. Confirm exact-model drivers and network-scanning compatibility for the intended computers.
The manufacturer declares 47ppm Letter output. Its average monthly-volume range and maximum duty figure describe different things, rather than a guaranteed sustained workload. The 120–127V/60Hz body measures 18.1 ×20 ×27 inches and is listed at 99.2 pounds. Starter toner is declared at 6000 pages and replacement toner at 25000, under the stated conditions. Toner and maintenance kits have separate declarations. Choose the 5200S for confirmed wired monochrome work and reversing Legal capture, while checking optional fax, software, supplies and the actual machine's condition.

Exact 5200S declares 47 ppm Letter. Average monthly volume and maximum duty are separate from an explicit recommended interval. Scanner image rates use a different mode.
Paper handling
Included input is 550 main plus 100 bypass sheets. Letter/Legal/A4 automatic duplex is expressly confirmed with 60–163 gsm stock. Additional banks and their installation hardware are optional.
Scanning arrangement
The 50-sheet reversing feeder automatically captures ordinary Legal originals on both sides; glass is Letter/A4. Network computer capture is documented. Extended simplex lengths do not extend duplex limits.
Computer and mobile connections
Ethernet and computer/host USB are standard. Wireless, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth are options. USB-media saving is separate from the documented network computer-scanning route.
Supplies and declared yields
The original separates 6000-page starter, 25000-page replacement and maintenance-kit yields. An all-in-one cartridge replacement does not renew every machine component.
