The Ricoh Aficio SP C431DN is a print-only color laser printer for compatible office work. Compared with the nearby C430DN, its distinction is not just a higher declared speed. US part 406658 also includes 768MB memory and an 80GB hard disk, supporting the documented password-protected print-collection workflow.
That makes it a different candidate for a shared office where sensitive documents should wait for their owner. It remains an earlier machine to evaluate against actual driver support, fitted configuration and service condition; a specification is not a statement about the condition of a particular offer.
Private password collection is documented for the standard configuration
The original brochure explains that Locked Print protects a job with a password and provides a 12-key panel for entering it. The disk needed for the feature is standard on this exact model. A basic C431DN therefore has a different documented privacy configuration from a basic C430DN, whose disk is optional.
Check the compatible driver and administrator settings before depending on that routine. Storage encryption and data-overwrite options are separate capabilities, not automatically included merely because the ordinary disk and held-job function are present. Private collection also does not turn this print-only machine into a scanner or copier.
Base paper input is 650 sheets; expansion remains additional hardware
The standard 550-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass provide 650 sheets. Up to three extra 550-sheet banks increase the total to 2300. Those drawers need to be physically present before an expanded-capacity promise is useful to the buyer.
Ordinary trays support Letter, Legal and A4 documents. The bypass handles a broader custom length, but its width still matters: a long banner path is not proof of wide A3 paper. The 500-sheet face-down output limit also remains separate from the largest possible input configuration.
Automatic duplex has its own media range
Automatic two-sided output is standard. Its stated 60–163gsm range is narrower than the heaviest one-sided bypass stock. A source listing thick stock, envelopes or coated media should not be read as permission to duplex every one of them.

The manufacturer declares 42ppm Letter color or monochrome output, rather than the C430DN's 37ppm. Real completion time can change with files, network and computer conditions. The brochure does not establish a numeric recommended monthly range here, and long-life supply declarations should not be turned into one.
