Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can base Ethernet color Tabloid output use 650 included sheets?
Yes. The second 550-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass support that ordinary large-paper capacity.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the 1200-sheet total mean 1200 included Tabloid sheets?
No. The first 550-sheet cassette is Letter-only in this base configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Does an optional finisher or network utility make this a computer scanner?
No. The base C820DN is print-only.
Explore this need in the finder →A large-format color printer with different capacity by paper size
The Ricoh Aficio SP C820DN is an earlier print-only color laser machine for compatible office document production. The base US406547 configuration includes two 550-sheet cassettes and a 100-sheet bypass. Its 1200-sheet headline input is useful, but it is not available equally for every paper size.
The T1, T2 and LC names describe different supplied paper arrangements. They should not be merged into the basic DN specification. Likewise, finishers, mailboxes and storage options are additional components, rather than functions to assume from a fully configured photograph.
Letter gets both cassettes; larger paper uses different paths
The first 550-sheet cassette is specified for Letter. The second accepts the stated range through 11 ×17-inch Tabloid. Together with the bypass, that gives 1200 ordinary Letter sheets but 650 for supported Legal, A4 or Tabloid jobs in the base configuration.
A3 fits the broader 12-inch-wide bypass range, rather than the narrower cassette maximum. Its base capacity is therefore limited to that 100-sheet path. This distinction matters more to a larger-paper buyer than quoting the biggest total: a 1200-sheet Tabloid requirement should not receive a false match.
Standard duplex and optional finishing are separate decisions
Automatic two-sided printing is standard within the stated 60–169gsm duplex weight range. The broader one-sided media range does not extend every heavy stock into duplex. Precise duplex sizes are not independently enumerated here, so general automatic duplex is confirmed without inventing paper-specific permissions.
The base output tray holds 500 sheets. Larger finishing and mailbox totals require their actual accessories, with a bridge and specified paper-unit or cabinet arrangement where instructed. A booklet, staple or hole-punch example in the brochure does not establish those capabilities in the basic printer.
Use a supported wired workflow before assuming interface upgrades
USB computer printing and 100Mbps Ethernet are standard. Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and a parallel interface are options, with only one additional interface installable. Check which board is fitted rather than assuming every listed interface can be used together.
Genuine Adobe PostScript 3, PCL, Ricoh RPCS and PDF Direct are documented. The optional PictBridge card is another separate feature. Older AppleTalk and network-protocol listings do not establish native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct. Verify exact-model software and network support for the intended environment.
Memory, optional disk and private collection are different
The basic DN includes 512MB memory, while some other supplied configurations include more. The 80GB disk is optional across the listed models. Its document-storage examples should not be assigned to ordinary RAM or treated as supplied with every older offer.
The security list names Locked Print Password Encryption without settling a precise panel PIN procedure and its complete prerequisites in this source. Private-PIN collection therefore remains unconfirmed here. Disk protection, authentication and controlled output should be checked as separate needs.
Plan a substantial installation and its service condition
The manufacturer declares 40ppm monochrome or color output without an independently explicit paper-size condition here. It is not converted into a precise Letter or A4 rate. Long-life supply declarations also do not establish a numeric recommended monthly workload.
The 120V/60Hz body measures 26.4 ×26.4 ×25.2 inches. A less-than 213-pound weight is an upper bound, not an exact loaded value. Leave space for paper, toner access and any finishing hardware. Toner, photoconductors, transfer parts, waste bottle and fuser have separate replacement declarations. Choose the C820DN around a confirmed connection and the capacity of the actual paper path, while checking every option and the individual machine's condition.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The declared 40 ppm color/black rate lacks an independently explicit paper-size condition. First-color/black and warm-up figures are separate; no recommended interval is established.
Paper handling
Base input is two 550-sheet cassettes plus 100 bypass sheets. The first cassette is Letter-only: Legal/A4/Tabloid capacity is 650, and A3 uses the 100-sheet bypass. Exact duplex sizes remain unassigned.
Scanning arrangement
This is a dedicated printer. It has no document scanner, automatic document feeder, copying or fax function.
Computer and mobile connections
Ethernet and computer/host USB are standard. Wireless, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and parallel require options, with only one additional interface. Legacy discovery does not establish native mobile printing.
Supplies and declared yields
Starter/replacement toner and separate imaging/maintenance yields use stated coverage and job-length conditions. They are not invented ISO claims, current costs or remaining-life promises.
Software and support
The base controller differs from expanded bundles. HDD and finishing hardware are optional; a named Locked Print feature does not establish its exact PIN-release procedure.
Electrical edition and setup
US base C820DN 406547 uses 120 V, 60 Hz. Body: 26.4 × 26.4 × 25.2 inches. The less-than-213 lb value is an upper bound; finishing changes the floor plan and has specific prerequisites.
