M C250FWB (US-compatible120V configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible USB or ordinary network routine needing color documents and automatic two-sided Legal scanning.

The main tradeoff

The FWB does not include the FW-only private-release procedure. The 500-sheet extra drawer is optional, and Direct scanning is not established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can USB combine color printing, automatic Legal duplex and single-pass Legal computer scanning with 250 bulk sheets?

Yes. The individually read operating chapters confirm USB TWAIN, duplex originals and exact ordinary-paper routes.

Does the FWB inherit private password collection from the FW?

No. The shared original manual explicitly restricts that feature to the M C250FW.

Does Direct printing independently establish Direct computer scanning?

No. That capture route is not established; USB and ordinary network scanning are documented separately.

A color multifunction printer for two-sided original capture

The Ricoh M C250FWB combines color laser printing with copying, scanning and fax. Its 50-sheet single-pass document feeder is especially relevant to someone who regularly captures both sides of loose paperwork. The benefit is different from simply having automatic two-sided printing: originals and printed output use separate mechanisms.

This assessment concerns the US-compatible FWB configuration. The closely named M C250FW has different toner declarations and a private-print feature that should not be transferred to the FWB. Exact suffixes matter when choosing an older machine or comparing offers.

Match Legal originals to the feeder and smaller work to the glass

The original manual confirms a 216 ×297mm glass, supporting Letter and A4. The feeder extends through 216 ×356mm, including Legal. A book, fragile original or other unsuitable feeder material belongs on the glass within its own bounds; Legal feeder support does not enlarge that surface.

The single-pass feeder can capture both sides automatically. Original TWAIN instructions explicitly discover scanners connected through USB or the network, and the scanning utility describes its duplex feeder option. Install a compatible exact-model driver and application around the actual computer connection.

Included bulk input is 250 sheets, with a separate manual sheet

The brochure's 251-sheet standard total is clarified by the operating manual:250 in the main cassette and one in the bypass. For a requirement about ordinary loaded paper,250 is the useful bulk figure. An extra 500-sheet drawer supports Letter and A4 and explains the 751-sheet expanded maximum.

Automatic duplex on suitable plain paper explicitly includes Letter, Legal and A4. The one-sided media range is broader than the duplex range. Legal printing also has a software condition: the manual excludes it in PCL Fine and PostScript Best Quality modes. A supported paper size should not be treated as available under every driver setting.

Choose USB, ordinary networking or Direct printing deliberately

USB computer printing and scanning are documented, as are ordinary Ethernet and Wi-Fi multifunction routes. Native AirPrint and Mopria are listed for network printing. Network folder capture requires its destination and credentials to be configured, while computer-initiated capture needs the supported driver and application.

Wi-Fi Direct printing is also described. That does not independently prove computer scanning or native mobile protocols in Direct mode. A user requiring the full scanner workflow should choose one of the documented USB or ordinary network setups rather than combining capabilities from unrelated routes.

The FWB does not inherit the FW's Locked Print procedure

The shared original manual describes password-controlled job collection, then explicitly limits that function to the M C250FW. The FWB therefore should not be recommended when private-PIN release is essential. A shared family manual is useful precisely because its model restrictions can prevent a false feature match.

The same distinction applies to supplies. The FWB replacement cartridges are declared at 2300 pages each for black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Higher FW yields belong to that other variant. Neither a feature heading nor a nearby-model cartridge listing should substitute for exact FWB support.

Evaluate the whole setup rather than a disputed headline rate

The US brochure declares 26ppm Letter output, while the operating manual lists 25ppm Letter. The assessment retains that difference instead of producing a falsely precise matching value. Neither declaration predicts complete mixed-document job time, and the 30000-print duty cycle is not a stated recommended monthly workload.

The brochure body dimensions are 16.5 ×19.4 ×18.6 inches for the 120–127V/60Hz configuration. Leave feeder, lid, paper and service clearance. Check the exact voltage label, working drivers, supplied cartridges and optional drawer. The FWB is a useful candidate for supported color output and single-pass Legal capture; private password collection and assumed Direct scanning are reasons to choose a different confirmed setup.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

US brochure Letter output conflicts with the operating manual, so no single precise Letter rate is matched. The 30000-page duty ceiling is not an explicit sustained recommendation.

Paper handling

The main cassette holds 250 sheets and bypass is individual. The optional 500-sheet bank is Letter/A4-only. Plain Letter/Legal/A4 automatic duplex is documented, with Legal quality-mode restrictions.

Scanning arrangement

The 50-sheet single-pass Legal feeder and Letter/A4 glass support color USB/network capture through the actual TWAIN/Utility procedures. Direct computer scanning remains unestablished.

Computer and mobile connections

USB, Ethernet, ordinary Wi-Fi and Direct printing are documented. AirPrint/Mopria belong to the supported ordinary network; Direct does not borrow those protocols or computer scanning.

Supplies and declared yields

The exact FWB replacement declaration is 2300 pages for each CMYK color under ISO 19798, separate from FW higher-yield figures. Starter/waste capacities do not establish remaining toner or cost.

Software and support

The operating manual explicitly reserves Locked Print for M C250FW, excluding FWB. Optional features or Windows restrictions for FW do not create private release on FWB.

Electrical edition and setup

The US 120–127 V, 60 Hz reference gives a 16.5 × 19.4 × 18.6-inch body. Loaded-weight figures have different exact/upper-bound bases, so one numeric weight is unassigned. Allow feeder and service access.
