Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can standard Ethernet combine monochrome Legal output and 250 ordinary input sheets?
Yes, with compatible software and network configuration. Legal is explicitly listed for the standard cassette.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the included model automatically print both sides?
No. Its original duplex specification is manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Can this printer scan or copy documents?
No. It is a print-only monochrome model.

The Ricoh Aficio SP 1210N is an earlier monochrome laser printer with a particularly low body: the documented US model measures 6.7 inches high. It is worth considering around a compatible wired computer routine when color output and multifunction hardware are unnecessary.
The exact US brochure identifies part 406833 and a 120V/60Hz configuration. For an older offer, match the machine label and supplied parts to that version. A compact body can help with placement, but compatibility, paper handling and the condition of the particular printer remain the important buying checks.
Legal paper fits the standard cassette
The ordinary cassette holds 250 sheets and explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4. A separate single-sheet bypass brings the brochure's combined loading figure to 251, but it does not turn the ordinary bulk supply into another full tray. This distinction is useful when comparing how often the printer will need refilling.
The two paths also have different media limits. The cassette accepts ordinary paper within its specified weight range; envelopes, labels and heavier materials use the bypass. A single-sheet feed can handle occasional special jobs, but it should not be mistaken for an unattended stack of envelopes.
Two-sided printing requires manual handling
The original specification explicitly lists manual duplex. Producing both sides involves refeeding sheets rather than relying on an automatic reversing paper path. That may be workable for occasional documents but changes the effort required for repeated two-sided packets.
A driver option for arranging pages is therefore different from automatic duplex hardware. If the questionnaire requires automatic two-sided output, this base model should not satisfy that answer. Choose it for a workflow where manual refeeding is acceptable, or compare a machine with the required automatic feature confirmed.
USB and Ethernet are included
The documented interfaces are full-speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. The original brochure also lists IPv4 and IPv6 network support. These provide a basis for compatible computer printing without purchasing a wireless accessory merely to establish the standard wired connection.
They do not independently establish ordinary Wi-Fi, AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct. Check the exact computer, operating system and working driver before purchase. The historical Windows support list describes the original software environment rather than promising operation on every modern platform.
The controller specification lists PCL6, while the marketing text also refers to PS3 emulation. Neither should be rewritten as a confirmed genuine Adobe interpreter. If a specialist application depends on a particular language implementation, verify that requirement against its exact driver and output routine.
Keep speed and consumable figures in context
The brochure rates the printer at up to 23 pages per minute without explicitly tying that figure to Letter in the specification. First-print and warm-up declarations are separate measurements. They should not be combined into a precise total time for every document or used as a substitute for a hands-on performance test.
The original starter toner is declared at 1000 pages. Replacement SP 1200A toner and the SP 1200 drum have separate declared lives, so replacing toner does not renew the drum. Confirm suitable replacements and the condition of both parts in the offered machine before treating an attractive purchase price as the complete ownership cost.
Plan access around the closed body
The documented body is 14.5 × 14.2 × 6.7 inches and weighs 15 pounds with toner and drum installed. Front access helps with paper and maintenance, but cables, the rear exit and removal of components still require practical working room.
The SP 1210N fits a confirmed wired monochrome routine with standard Legal handling and acceptable manual duplex. It does not scan or copy, and it should not be selected for native mobile printing or unattended two-sided output without an independently confirmed arrangement.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original US brochure declares up to 23 ppm without an explicit paper-size basis. Letter rate remains unknown. First print under 10 seconds and warm-up under 18 seconds describe separate original conditions. No numerical monthly duty or recommended range is established.
Paper handling
250-sheet ordinary cassette plus a single-sheet bypass: 251 total loading positions, 250 ordinary bulk sheets. Letter, Legal and A4 in both paths. Automatic duplex is absent: two-sided printing requires manual refeeding. Envelopes, labels and heavier material use the bypass; standard tray 60–105 gsm versus bypass 60–163 gsm.
Scanning arrangement
This is a dedicated printer. It has no document scanner, automatic document feeder, copying or fax function.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard full-speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet with IPv4/IPv6 support in the original US brochure. Ordinary Wi-Fi, native AirPrint/Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are not established. Computer driver compatibility must be checked for the actual operating system.
Supplies and declared yields
Original1000-page starter, SP1200 A replacement toner2600 declared prints and a separate SP1200 drum12000 prints. The brochure prints ISO/IEC19572; do not silently substitute another standard or promise real-world yield. Toner replacement does not replace the drum. No current cost-per-page calculation.
Software and support
181MHz CPU and 16 MB fixed standard/maximum memory. PDL table lists PCL6; marketing also names PS3 emulation. Do not equate emulation or that mixed presentation with a genuine Adobe interpreter. Historical Windows driver list is not a guarantee for a current platform. No private PIN collection workflow is established.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US406833 configuration uses 120 V, 60 Hz. Main body 14.5 × 14.2 × 6.7 in; 15 lb with toner/drum, 12.8 lb without. Front access supports loading and routine maintenance, while the rear output/cables still need clearance. Do not treat closed body dimensions as full working space.
