A wireless monochrome printer with confirmed Legal duplex

The Ricoh SP 311DNw is an earlier dedicated monochrome laser printer with USB, Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi included. Its strongest combination is a 300-sheet included paper arrangement and explicitly documented automatic duplex for Letter, Legal and A4.

That is more specific than a general claim that a printer handles Legal paper and has a duplex feature. The original US sheet lists the actual duplex sizes and media condition. This model can therefore qualify those paper-specific requirements without borrowing an instruction from another Ricoh family.

The bypass is a genuine stack in this configuration

The ordinary input combines a 250-sheet front cassette and a 50-sheet bypass, making 300 included sheets. Unlike a single-sheet manual slot, the bypass here is a documented stack. Both paths cover the supported Letter, Legal and A4 routine under their stated paper conditions.

Envelopes and labels belong in the bypass path. Their presence in the one-sided media list does not mean they should be run through automatic duplex. Follow the instructed media route and loading conditions when switching from ordinary documents to a special job.

The output tray holds 125 sheets, less than the combined input. A longer job can therefore need clearing at the exit even while paper remains loaded. Plan that access when choosing its location.

Automatic duplex has a narrower weight range

The exact duplex list includes 8.5 × 11-inch Letter,8.5 × 14-inch Legal and A4. It specifies suitable 60–105gsm paper. The wider one-sided 52–162gsm range does not extend that permission to every heavier sheet the input can accept.

The manufacturer declares 30ppm Letter one-sided output and describes duplex at 50 percent productivity. Those are different operating modes. A one-sided headline should not become a guaranteed two-sided rate for a complex current document, computer and driver setup.

Choose USB, Ethernet or the ordinary wireless network

The printer includes a USB computer interface, wired Ethernet and wireless LAN. Configure the actual chosen route with the supported driver and network settings. Wireless authentication and encryption are useful setup features, but they do not establish every native phone-printing protocol.

AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are not established by this exact brochure. A printer having ordinary Wi-Fi should not qualify a user who specifically needs one of those unconfirmed protocols. A documented computer-driver workflow is a different requirement from a phone's built-in print menu.

Keep the controller's PCL distinction intact

PCL6 is supplied, while a footnote says the controller can receive PCL5e data even though PCL5e does not ship with the product. Those statements should not be simplified into an identical bundled-driver promise. Verify the exact current software for the intended computer and document environment.

The controller includes 128MB of memory. Remote-management support through an optional appliance is limited to counter information in the stated arrangement. Neither that management feature nor the memory figure establishes a scanner, fax or particular private-PIN job collection routine.

Assess the physical and supply package before buying an older unit

The declared body is 14.6 × 15.5 × 10.4 inches and 28 pounds including the starter cartridge. Allow room for the cassette, bypass, output, cables and maintenance. Match the US 120V/60Hz electrical label rather than assuming every similar-looking regional edition is interchangeable.

The original starter is declared at 1000 pages, with a 3500-print SP311HS replacement. Those yields do not establish remaining supplies or today's cost. The SP311DNw fits supported monochrome computer printing with real included stack capacity and confirmed ordinary-paper duplex, provided an integrated scanner or native mobile protocol is not essential.
