SP 330SFN (408262, US)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible office routine needing two-sided Legal capture and password collection from a Windows PCL computer.

The main tradeoff

Wireless is optional. The feeder is not single-pass, and native mobile jobs do not inherit Windows-PCL private release.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible Windows PCL USB setup combine private release, automatic Legal printing and reversing Legal computer scanning?

Yes. Those functions are explicitly documented for this computer workflow, with 300 included input sheets.

Does native AirPrint printing include the Windows-PCL-only private password workflow?

No. The documented native mobile route must not borrow the private release feature from another driver.

Is the 330SFN feeder single-pass?

No. It uses an automatic reversing feeder, which is a different mechanism.

A wired office multifunction printer with reversing Legal scanning

The Ricoh SP 330SFN combines monochrome laser printing with color scanning, copying and fax. Its useful distinction is the 35-sheet automatic reversing document feeder: compatible two-sided Legal originals can be captured without turning each sheet over by hand. This assessment concerns the US 408262 configuration.

It is an earlier model to evaluate against a working connection and software setup. The 330DN is a different, print-only member of the family. A shared brochure does not make its smaller body, output capacity or memory appropriate to the SFN.

Choose the scanner path around the originals you actually handle

The glass supports Letter and A4 originals through 8.5 × 11.7 inches. Legal originals belong in the feeder. Its reversing mechanism handles both sides automatically, but it is not single-pass scanning: a requirement for one-pass two-sided capture should lead to another model.

The original TWAIN instructions explicitly describe USB and network scanners, with glass and feeder source choices. This is stronger support for computer capture than the presence of a USB socket alone. Use a compatible installed driver and scanning application; a historical operating-system list is not a promise of support for every current computer.

Included paper capacity is 300 sheets, rather than the expanded maximum

The standard 250-sheet cassette and 50-sheet bypass total 300 sheets. An optional 250-sheet bank explains the 550-sheet maximum. Confirm that extra hardware is actually supplied before treating an older offer as a larger-capacity machine.

Automatic print duplex explicitly includes Letter, Legal and A4 within the stated 60–105gsm range. Heavier one-sided media have different conditions. The SFN output tray holds 50 sheets, so a long job can need collection even while paper remains at the input. Input and output limits solve different parts of the workflow.

Private password collection belongs to Windows PCL jobs

The original operating instructions give a concrete Locked Print procedure: choose the feature in the Windows PCL driver, provide a four-to-eight-digit password, then select the stored job and enter that password at the printer. This is a documented private-collection workflow, rather than an inference from a security feature name.

Its limits matter. The manual allows up to five held jobs or 5MB, and stored jobs are deleted after printing or when the machine is powered off or restarted. It should not be bought as a large permanent document archive. Send sensitive work only after checking the exact installed driver and the intended collection procedure.

AirPrint and Mopria support do not extend that Windows-PCL-only procedure to native mobile jobs. The questionnaire keeps these routes separate: requiring both native mobile printing and private password release cannot be satisfied by borrowing one feature from a different driver.

Ethernet is included; ordinary wireless needs an option

Standard USB is a straightforward choice for a compatible nearby computer. Ethernet offers a wired network route, with documented native AirPrint and Mopria printing once the network is configured appropriately. The wireless P16 unit is an option, not an included radio to assume from the family name.

A mobile-only print route also does not establish computer scanning in that same setup. If both functions are essential, choose a documented computer workflow and check software installation before relying on the printer for daily work. Fax additionally needs the supported telephone connection.

Check workload, voltage and supplies before choosing an older machine

The manufacturer declares 34ppm Letter monochrome output. The 5800-print maximum monthly volume and 35000-print duty cycle are separate ceilings; neither is presented as a recommended sustained range. They do not predict real mixed-job completion time.

The US body measures 15.9 × 15.4 × 16.5 inches and is listed at 40 pounds. Match the 120–127V/60Hz configuration and leave feeder, lid and maintenance access. The original starter and replacement toner declarations are 1000 and 3500 prints respectively, not the amount remaining in a used machine. Choose the 330SFN for a supported wired workflow, reversing Legal capture and driver-specific private collection, while checking optional wireless and paper hardware individually.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Manufacturer-declared 34 ppm Letter monochrome output. The 5800-print maximum monthly volume is separate from the 35000-print duty cycle; neither is an explicit recommended monthly range.

Paper handling

250-sheet main cassette plus 50-sheet bypass gives 300 included ordinary sheets; optional 250-sheet bank expands to 550. Letter, Legal and A4 automatic duplex are explicit at 60–105 gsm. SFN output is 50 sheets, rather than DN 125.

Scanning arrangement

35-sheet reversing duplex Legal ADF, not single-pass. Glass supports Letter/A4 through 8.5 × 11.7 in. Actually read original TWAIN chapter confirms USB and network computer scanning; document source selects glass or ADF and duplex capture.

Computer and mobile connections

USB computer interface and Ethernet are standard; wireless P16 unit 408299 is optional. AirPrint and Mopria are documented for the configured network. Windows-PCL private jobs and native mobile-print jobs are separate supported routes.

Supplies and declared yields

Original 1000-page starter; SP 330L 408288 replacement rated 3500 prints. Declared yield does not establish remaining toner or a current cost per page.

Software and support

256 MB/400MHz, PCL and PostScript emulation. Original manual restricts Locked Print to Windows PCL: 4–8 digit password, at most five jobs or 5 MB; held data is deleted by printing, power-off or restart. Do not borrow private release into AirPrint or Mopria.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US SP 330SFN 408262 uses 120–127 V 60 Hz 7.7 A. Body 15.9 × 15.4 × 16.5 in, 40 lb with inclusion basis unspecified. Allow scanner, feeder, paper, cable and service clearance. Do not borrow smaller DN dimensions.
