Ricoh SP 3710DN review

The DN is the printer; the SF is the multifunction model

The Ricoh SP 3710DN is an earlier monochrome laser printer with automatic duplex, Ethernet and a 300-sheet included paper arrangement. The shared brochure also covers the SP 3710SF, but the scanner, copier, fax and reversing original feeder belong to that SF model.

This review concerns the US DN configuration, part 408272. A family-cover multifunction heading and a print engine's laser-scanning terminology should not make a print-only device appear capable of scanning originals. Choose the DN when document output is the actual job.

300 sheets are included; the 550-sheet total needs an option

The main cassette holds 250 ordinary sheets and the bypass holds 50. A separately sold 250-sheet paper unit raises the configured maximum to 550. That extra drawer changes both the paper supply and installation size and should only be counted when the actual offer includes it.

Envelopes are specifically assigned to the bypass path. The documented one-sided paper-weight range is broader than the duplex range, so a heavier sheet accepted for one-sided output should not automatically be used for two-sided printing. Follow the correct loading direction and driver media settings.

Automatic duplex includes the ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 routine

The original specification identifies duplex as standard and gives Letter-through-Legal and A4 paper permissions with suitable 60–105gsm stock. That supports the ordinary automatic two-sided document arrangement rather than relying only on a general paper-size list.

The 34ppm figure is specifically a one-sided Letter declaration. It is not an automatic-duplex rate, A4 conversion or our timing result. A job sent through an application, network or different paper path has additional conditions beyond a nominal engine speed.

Ethernet is included; the wireless LAN unit is optional

The standard interfaces are USB Type B and 10/100 Ethernet. Native AirPrint and Mopria are named network-printing options, using the appropriate compatible device and reachable network. They are not features of the direct USB computer arrangement.

The wireless LAN unit is a separately identified option. An NFC tag or mobile-application pairing feature should not be treated as evidence that every basic unit contains a Wi-Fi radio or provides a peer-wireless connection. Check the actual installed options when wireless placement is important.

Locked Print has a driver condition, and volume figures need care

The specification lists Locked Print and Sample Print for PCL, alongside other language-specific functions. A private-print buyer should confirm the actual supported driver, submission settings and collection procedure for the offered printer. A generic security label does not establish every PIN-based release workflow.

The manufacturer separates a 5,800-print maximum monthly-volume figure from a 35,000-print maximum duty cycle. Those are not interchangeable. The source does not explicitly provide a recommended sustained monthly range, so this assessment does not turn the larger duty number into a regular-workload recommendation.

A compact printer body still needs operating room

The DN body measures 14.6×15.4×10.3 inches and weighs 28.7lb. Those are different from the taller and heavier SF multifunction model. The optional paper unit adds 3.5 inches of height and 6.6lb, before allowing room for paper, cables, ventilation and maintenance.

The US edition uses 120–127V at 60Hz. Its all-in-one SP 3710X cartridge has a declared 7,000-page starter and replacement yield, which does not establish remaining toner or today's cost per page. Choose the SP 3710DN for its verified wired monochrome output and paper routine; move to a separately documented multifunction model when originals also need to be scanned or faxed.
