The Ricoh Aficio SP4310N is an earlier monochrome laser printer for a compatible wired office routine. It includes 600 input sheets and standard Ethernet, while automatic duplex, extra paper capacity and private PIN collection depend on optional hardware. Those distinctions matter more than a picture of a fully equipped machine.
This assessment concerns US part 406799. It is a print-only device: network management tools and document-storage features do not provide a physical scanner, copier or fax. Choose it for the output workflow it actually supports.
Standard input and expanded input answer different questions
A500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass give 600 included sheets. One or two optional 500-sheet banks explain the 1600-sheet maximum. Confirm that those units are present before expecting the larger loaded-paper capacity from a particular offer.
The ordinary configuration accommodates Letter, Legal and A4. The bypass extends to 17 inches in length, but its width remains 8.5 inches; that is not A3 or Tabloid support. The 250-sheet output tray is another separate capacity that may need clearing before a large input supply is exhausted.
Envelopes can use the bypass. The dedicated 60-envelope feeder is optional and installs inside an optional paper-feed unit. Neither an envelope capability label nor an expanded photograph establishes that complete hardware assembly in the base printer.
Automatic two-sided output requires the AD1000 unit
The brochure explicitly lists automatic duplex as optional. Its approximate productivity statement describes a configured machine, not a promise that the accessory is included. A basic SP4310N should therefore not satisfy an essential automatic-duplex requirement.
The duplex unit also changes physical depth and weight. The mainframe is listed at 15.28 ×17.72 ×13.58 inches and 34.1 pounds; the duplex configuration at 15.28 ×21.37 ×13.58 inches and 47.3 pounds. Use the actual fitted configuration when planning space and handling.
Private collection needs storage, not just more memory
The original source describes PIN entry at the control panel for confidential printing. The 80GB disk that enables Locked Print is optional. The base machine's 256MB RAM, or a memory upgrade, does not replace that documented storage requirement.
The disk option also bundles additional data-protection functions. Ordinary network encryption and user-code accounting are different from keeping a sensitive print job held until its owner arrives. Check the fitted disk, supported driver and administrator setup before depending on password collection.
Standard Ethernet is different from wireless or Gigabit upgrades
USB computer printing and 100Mbps Ethernet are standard. Wireless LAN, Gigabit Ethernet and a parallel interface are options. A listed power-line Ethernet adapter is another way to carry a wired network signal; it is not evidence of a built-in Wi-Fi radio.
The controller supports genuine Adobe PostScript 3, PCL and other documented languages, with IPDS optional. Historical driver and operating-system lists still need a compatibility check for the intended computer. AppleTalk does not independently establish native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct support.
Evaluate condition and service items before assuming a low running cost
The manufacturer declares 37ppm Letter output. First-print, warm-up and energy-saver recovery figures describe different conditions and do not predict a complete mixed-job time. The source does not establish a numeric recommended monthly workload here.
The US configuration requires 120V/60Hz. Leave room for paper, cables and front maintenance, particularly if optional banks or duplex hardware are fitted. The original starter is declared at 6000 prints and replacement all-in-one cartridge at 15000 under the stated standard. A separate maintenance kit covers other wear components. Choose the SP4310N around a verified wired print setup, then check accessories, software and machine condition individually.

Declared Letter output is 37 ppm. First-print, warm-up and recovery timings have separate conditions. Duplex productivity describes optional hardware; no sustained recommended interval is established.

Included input is 500 main plus 100 bypass sheets for ordinary Letter/Legal/A4. AD1000 automatic duplex is optional. The envelope feeder requires an additional paper unit.
