The Ricoh SP C252SF combines color laser printing, color scanning, copying and fax in an earlier US multifunction model. A 35-sheet feeder handles supported loose originals, and a documented PIN-release routine can keep sensitive print jobs from being collected before their owner reaches the device.
This is the SF configuration, part 407525. The C252DN shares the brochure but is print-only. The distinction matters more than a broad family description: it determines whether the document can be scanned at all, how much room the machine needs and which workflow the questionnaire can recommend.
Legal originals use the feeder rather than the shorter glass
The specified glass accepts originals up to 8.5 × 11 inches. The feeder accepts longer originals up to 8.5 × 14 inches. For a Legal-size sheet, use the documented feeder route; a Letter-size glass is not a full Legal scanning surface.
The source establishes a 35-sheet automatic feeder, but not automatic two-sided original scanning or single-pass capture. Duplex copying and the ability to put both sides of an ID card on one sheet do not prove the feeder captures both sides automatically. Those are different jobs with different handling requirements.
Match scanning to one real computer connection
The scanner interface list includes USB, Ethernet and wireless LAN, with TWAIN/WIA support and network destinations such as folder and FTP. That supports a compatible computer-scanning workflow through each listed interface when the corresponding software and destination settings are in place.
Wired and wireless network connections cannot run simultaneously. Choose the network the device will actually use rather than combining the benefits of two incompatible active modes. The Ricoh mobile app also requires PCL6 mode set to Universal; its existence does not establish native AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct.
PIN release is separate from fax and user restrictions
The brochure describes documents remaining protected until the correct PIN is entered at the control panel. That is the relevant positive for private print collection. Fax is another distinct feature, using the listed G3, 33.6Kbps PSTN/PBX arrangement. A network scanning destination is not the same as a working telephone fax connection. User-code restrictions, remote management and PIN collection also should not be treated as interchangeable security functions.
Included capacity and two-sided speed have clear limits
The ordinary cassette holds 250 sheets. A separate single-sheet bypass and an optional 500-sheet Letter/A4 drawer explain the expanded 751-sheet headline. Only the cassette is counted as the included bulk stack, and the optional drawer's Letter/A4 support does not prove added Legal capacity.
The manufacturer declares 21ppm Letter in color or monochrome and 12ppm Letter in automatic duplex. The confirmed Letter duplex path uses appropriate 60–90gsm media. Neither the broader one-sided weight range nor the general input-size table establishes every heavier-paper or Legal/A4 duplex combination.
Leave space for originals and check the exact consumables
The SF body measures 16.5 × 19.4 × 18.1 inches and weighs 64 pounds with consumables. Leave room for the feeder, lid, loose originals and maintenance. The optional drawer adds five inches and 13.2 pounds, so a plan based on the shorter C252DN body can be misleading.
Original starters are declared at 1,000 pages. SP C252HA replacements are declared at 6,500 black and 6,000 pages for each CMY color, rather than the C250 family's lower-yield cartridge figures. Check the offered unit's actual supplies, US 120V/60Hz label and current driver support. The SF fits a supported color-document routine with scanning and private collection, provided automatic duplex scanning is not essential.
