CLP-500NIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible wired computer printing of two-sided ordinary documents, with Legal and suitable envelopes handled through the multipurpose tray.

The main tradeoff

Legal input is limited to the 100-sheet multipurpose path; Wi-Fi needs an optional card, and scanning or copying is absent.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB computer print automatic two-sided color Letter documents with 350 included sheets?

Yes with the exact model driver and permitted media. The 250-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose tray both accept ordinary Letter stock, and the operating guide confirms automatic duplex. The declared one-sided color Letter rate is 5 pages per minute, distinct from duplex image rates.

Can the Ethernet arrangement print two-sided Legal documents with 100 included Legal sheets and handle suitable envelopes separately?

Yes with compatible model software and correct media settings. Legal uses the 100-sheet multipurpose path, while the detailed guide explicitly permits automatic duplex for suitable Legal paper. Envelopes use their own multipurpose loading routine and are not duplexed.

Does the 350-sheet headline establish 350 included Legal sheets?

No. The 250-sheet cassette is specified for A4 or Letter; Legal uses the 100-sheet multipurpose tray. The larger combined capacity cannot be reassigned to a size that the cassette does not accept.

CLP-500N provides color duplex on a wired computer setup

The Samsung CLP-500N is an earlier color laser printer with built-in automatic print duplex, USB and standard Ethernet. It fits a compatible computer workflow making ordinary two-sided documents, provided the exact model software and regional supplies are available for the actual unit.

Its 350-sheet input headline needs a paper-size qualification. Letter and A4 can use the 250-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Legal uses the multipurpose path, so its included capacity is 100 sheets. That distinction can change whether the printer suits an unattended document batch.

The N version has Ethernet, while wireless remains optional

CLP-500N includes a wired network interface as well as computer USB and a parallel port. For the reviewed Ethernet routine, configure the actual printer address and use compatible Windows model software. The original menu describes static settings or dynamic addressing and a network-configuration report.

The wireless menu only appears when the optional wireless interface is installed. A photograph or a family brochure describing that accessory should therefore not turn a base CLP-500N into an included Wi-Fi printer.

The printer uses SPL-C and includes 64 MB of memory. The neighboring CLP-550N's PostScript and PCL language set is a different configuration. Confirm the actual printer language and driver rather than assuming every machine in the family can use the same host setup.

Choose paper source and duplex settings together

The original operating procedure confirms automatic two-sided printing for suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper at 75–90 gsm. Set orientation, long- or short-edge binding, source, size and type in the compatible driver. Its application settings override the control-panel defaults.

The brochure's shorter duplex list names A4 and Letter, while the detailed operating instructions expressly include Legal. Legal still needs the multipurpose source; duplex support does not make it fit the A4/Letter cassette.

The extra 500-sheet drawer is an optional accessory. It should not be counted in the base supply or assumed present on a previously used unit. Likewise, one-sheet manual feeding is an alternate way to use the multipurpose path, not an additional paper store.

Envelopes need their own multipurpose routine

Suitable laser-printer envelopes go only in the multipurpose tray. The guide calls for flap-up loading, with the stamp-area end entering first, a gently adjusted width guide and the correct MP Tray, Envelope type and size in the software.

Its envelope allowance is separate from the 100-sheet ordinary-paper capacity. Follow the permitted construction, weight and margin conditions, and avoid the duplex routine for envelopes, labels, transparencies or thick stock. A different printer's flap-down instruction should not be substituted.

This machine has no document scanner, copier or fax. An imaging component inside its laser engine is different from hardware that captures a paper original. A scanning requirement needs a suitable multifunction model.

Assess declared rates, supplies and physical access

The operating guide declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black, compared with 20 A4, and five color pages per minute. It lists separate duplex image rates. These are manufacturer figures rather than a reproduced performance test, and the monthly duty ceiling is not a recommended recurring workload.

Original supplies distinguish 2,000-page black and 1,500-page color starters from 7,000 black and 5,000 per-color replacements on their stated coverage basis. The imaging drum, transfer belt and waste container also have separate maintenance lives. Those declarations do not establish current running cost or remaining life.

At roughly 70.5 lb with consumables, this is a substantial printer. Leave room for open covers, trays, cables and ventilation. The two original sources differ slightly on body depth, so measure the actual unit for a tight installation and verify its regional electrical label before use.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original operating guide distinguishes up to 21 one-sided Letter pages/min in black from 20 A4, and 5 color pages/min in Letter or A4. The brochure’s broad 20/5 headline is not a separate Letter declaration. Duplex rates are stated separately at up to 9.6 black or 5 color images/min for A4/Letter. These are manufacturer declarations, not measured results. The 35,000-black-page monthly duty ceiling does not establish recommended sustained monthly volume.

Paper handling

The base includes a 250-sheet A4/Letter cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose tray on the original 75 gsm capacity basis. A4 or Letter can use all 350 ordinary input sheets; Legal fits the multipurpose path with 100 sheets, not the cassette. The extra 500-sheet cassette is optional, so 850 is not included. The original operating procedure confirms automatic print duplex for suitable Letter, Legal and A4 stock at 75–90 gsm, with the correct source, type, size and binding. The brochure’s short duplex list names A4/Letter, while the detailed operating guide explicitly adds Legal. Envelopes use only the multipurpose tray, up to ten under the stated stock limits, flap up with the stamp-area end entering first. Adjust the width guide without bending, select MP Tray and Envelope in compatible software, and follow size and margin conditions. Envelopes, labels, transparencies and thick stock must not use the duplex routine.

Scanning arrangement

The exact manufacturer sources describe a print-only color laser device. It has no document scanner, glass, feeder, copier or fax. A laser imaging unit inside the print engine is not a document scanner, and automatic duplex refers to printed sheets.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact CLP-500N includes computer USB 2.0, IEEE1284 parallel and 10/100Base-TX wired Ethernet. The questionnaire’s USB and Ethernet arrangements use compatible installed Windows model software, with actual network TCP/IP settings configured for Ethernet. Parallel is documented separately and is not renamed USB. The original Network menu supports static address or DHCP/BOOTP setup and a network-configuration report. Wireless requires a separately installed optional network card and is not included in the reviewed base arrangement. Native AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

The original brochure and guide distinguish 7,000-page black and 5,000-page cyan/magenta/yellow replacements from the supplied 2,000-page black and 1,500-page color starters on their 5% coverage basis. Do not relabel that old coverage declaration as a later ISO test. The imaging drum, transfer belt and waste container are separate maintenance items with their own black/color image or page conditions. Verify the actual regional supply markings and installed state. Declared life is not present stock, remaining supply or cost per page.

Software and support

CLP-500N’s standard language is SPL-C with 64 MB of included memory. The neighboring CLP-550N’s PS3/PCL6 language set and 128 MB base are separate variant features. Use the exact model’s compatible driver; a network cable does not make a different printer language interchangeable. Application driver settings override the control-panel defaults for duplex. A printed CONFIDENTIAL watermark does not establish PIN-held job release, which remains unconfirmed. Historical host-system lists do not guarantee current driver availability.

Electrical edition and setup

The manufacturer brochure gives the body as 510 x 467 x 405 mm and 32 kg/70.5 lb with consumables. The operating guide instead prints 510 x 470 x 405 mm; that depth discrepancy is retained, so no precise depth-limit value is assigned. Approximate width and height are 20.1 and 15.9 inches. Packaging material weights and the optional cassette are separate. Allow cover, tray, ventilation and cable access beyond the closed body. The original guide explicitly identifies 110–127 VAC, 50/60 Hz for USA/Canada and a separate 220–240 VAC edition; check the actual rating label. This is an earlier reference without a current offer or software-support guarantee.
