ML-1630WIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible computer printing on Letter or A4 where a low cabinet is more useful than a large paper stack.

The main tradeoff

Legal sheets and envelopes fall outside the original media specification; legacy Wi-Fi does not establish modern mobile printing.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it print Letter documents over Ethernet with 100 sheets loaded?

Yes, with compatible software and the documented ordinary-paper setup.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the small cabinet accept Legal documents?

No. Its documented maximum paper length is shorter than Legal.

Can it meet an envelope-printing requirement?

No. The original media instructions specifically exclude envelopes.

Low height is the attraction, not a large paper supply

The Samsung ML-1630W places monochrome printing in a low cabinet with a pull-out paper drawer. The original dimensions put its height at about 4.8 inches, while width and depth are roughly 13.1 and 14.8 inches. It can suit a desk where a taller printer would obstruct the workspace.

That footprint still needs practical clearance. The drawer must come out for loading, the top must open for service, and cables need room behind the body. Check those actions at your intended location before choosing a shelf based solely on cabinet height.

Letter and A4 are the important size limits

The original paper specification supports Letter and A4, but the maximum stated media length is 297 mm. That is shorter than Legal. A household printing Legal forms needs a different paper path, regardless of whether a listing loosely describes this printer as suitable for office documents.

The ordinary tray holds up to 100 sheets at the specified 75 gsm weight. That is a modest stack, so longer runs require more frequent attention than a larger cassette. Labels, transparencies and card media have separate weight and feeding instructions rather than inheriting the ordinary-paper stack capacity.

Envelopes are an especially important exclusion. Samsung’s operating instructions specifically say they cannot be used with this product. The presence of label or card support should not be interpreted as permission to load folded envelopes.

Choose a connection that the actual network supports

The W configuration provides USB, wired Ethernet and legacy 802.11b/g wireless networking. A compatible desktop can use USB directly, while a configured network connection allows the printer to be reached without a dedicated USB cable to each computer.

For infrastructure Wi-Fi, the documented setup requires the correct network name and security settings. It also instructs the owner to remove the Ethernet cable to activate wireless operation. Wired and wireless networking should therefore be treated as alternative arrangements, not simultaneous network bridges.

An older wireless radio is not a guarantee of compatibility with every current router configuration. Confirm that your access point can support the required arrangement without assuming that a modern wireless name or an available USB socket solves network compatibility.

Network printing is different from modern phone printing

The guide describes Samsung desktop software, network discovery and configuration tools. It does not establish a supported AirPrint or Mopria route for this assessed setup. Legacy ad-hoc networking also should not be renamed Wi-Fi Direct just because both involve wireless connections.

If printing from a phone is essential, verify the exact supported protocol and setup before buying. If your routine already uses a compatible computer, check that the needed driver is available for that computer today. An old list of Windows, Macintosh and Linux versions is historical compatibility information.

Keep expectations centered on document printing

This is print-only hardware. There is no document glass, automatic originals feeder, copier or fax for handling incoming paperwork. Generic software-package language about scanning does not change the physical equipment in this model.

The declared rate reaches 17 Letter pages per minute, or 16 on A4. These figures help identify its original output class, but are not a measured complete-job time. Nor does a resolution specification establish how an individual earlier unit will perform with worn rollers or old toner.

Inspect the offered machine’s condition, consumables and electrical plate. Samsung lists separate regional voltage editions, and the original starter cartridge yield differs from replacement yield. Choose the ML-1630W when its low cabinet, supported desktop connection and Letter/A4 routine fit; exclude it when Legal paper, envelopes or document capture are essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared up to 17 Letter / 16 A4 pages per minute. No measured complete-job speed or recommended monthly workload is established.

Paper handling

The original instructions exclude envelopes. The ordinary tray holds 100 sheets at the stated 75 gsm stock weight, in Letter or A4. Its maximum 297 mm length excludes Legal. Special materials require their own loading and weight instructions. Automatic duplex is not established.

Scanning arrangement

Monochrome print-only model. Generic software-package wording about scanning is not hardware evidence; no glass/ADF/fax.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and Ethernet are included. The separate 802.11b/g wireless arrangement needs compatible settings and the Ethernet cable unplugged. Wired and wireless networking are alternatives, not simultaneous routes. Legacy ad-hoc setup does not establish standardized WiFi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria.

Supplies and declared yields

Original replacement yield: 2,000 ISO/IEC 19752 pages, versus a 1,000-page starter, with coverage and configuration affecting results. These figures do not establish remaining toner or current price.

Software and support

Use compatible Samsung desktop printing driver and actual network configuration report. Old Windows/Mac/Linux lists do not guarantee present compatibility. Watermark Confidential and network-admin authentication do not establish PIN-held jobs.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact ML-1630W software entry confirms the W configuration. Closed body: 332 × 375 × 121.5 mm, approximately 13.07 × 14.76 × 4.78 inches; 6.95 kg with consumables, about 15.3 lb. Allow drawer and top access. Regional voltage editions differ; verify the offered unit’s label.
