Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can it print Letter documents over USB with a 150-sheet ordinary tray?
Yes, with a compatible desktop driver; two-sided work requires manual refeeding.
Explore this need in the finder →Will it turn pages automatically for two-sided printing?
No. Its documented two-sided routine is manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the screen-print button make it a document scanner?
No. It prints computer display content; there is no physical document scanner.
Explore this need in the finder →A direct connection for black-and-white paperwork
The Samsung ML-1665 is an earlier monochrome printer built around a direct USB connection. Its original model table specifies USB 2.0 and manual two-sided printing. It suits a compatible computer producing letters, forms and other black-and-white pages when scanning and shared wireless access are not part of the job.
The compact body is one reason to consider this configuration, but measure the operating arrangement rather than just a closed box. Paper loading extends the front tray, and the output support needs space. A narrow shelf can fit the cabinet while still obstructing everyday handling.
Decide whether manual duplex fits your routine
Samsung describes printing both sides by refeeding the paper yourself. The driver provides binding choices for supported systems, and the guide limits this routine to suitable ordinary paper. It is not an automatic duplexer that turns a stack without intervention.
For occasional two-sided letters, that may be an acceptable task. For unattended reports or a regular pile of handouts, the interruption matters more than a compact cabinet. The finder therefore excludes this model when automatic two-sided printing is essential, even though its original literature uses the word duplex.
Booklet printing also relies on the documented manual process and an appropriate application or driver. Check the paper size, binding direction and refeed instructions before starting a larger run. Do not send labels or envelopes through an ordinary two-sided routine.
A small tray with clear media limits
The main tray accommodates up to 150 sheets of ordinary 80 gsm paper in the documented Letter, Legal and A4 sizes. This is a supply capacity under the stated paper conditions, rather than a promise that every thicker material fits in the same quantity.
Special materials use one-at-a-time manual feeding through the tray. Select the proper media type in the driver, align the guides and wait for the current sheet to finish before adding another. The envelope instructions also specify orientation and construction; a suitable plain envelope is different from one with windows, clasps or unsuitable adhesive.
For light correspondence, this arrangement avoids needing a separate specialty feeder. It also means switching between a paper stack and occasional envelopes requires attention. The original loading instructions are more useful for that decision than a broad claim of supporting many media types.
The screen button does not scan originals
The print-screen control works with compatible computer software to print material shown on the monitor. It does not add a glass scanner, document feeder, copier or fax. A household needing to digitize signed paperwork will still need a separate capture method.
The original guide ties that screen function to Smart Panel and specified Windows or Macintosh arrangements. Historical operating-system support should be checked against the computer you actually use today. A USB connection alone does not establish that every old software feature remains available.
Evaluate an earlier printer as an individual unit
The declared output rate reaches 17 Letter pages per minute, or 16 on A4. These are manufacturer figures, not a timed result from our own test. Warm-up, document complexity and software can change the duration of a complete job.
Before buying an earlier unit, check its electrical label, current driver options, paper feeding and consumable condition. The guide lists separate regional voltage editions, which should not be treated as universal input voltage. A historical cartridge yield also cannot tell you how much useful toner remains in an offered machine.
Choose the ML-1665 for a compatible direct-USB printing routine with modest tray demands. Choose a different configuration if automatic duplex, network sharing or physical document scanning is a requirement. Those differences affect everyday use more directly than software poster or watermark options.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original guide declares up to 17 Letter / 16 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly volume and maximum duty not established in read sections. No measured speed claim.
Paper handling
150 ordinary sheets at 80 gsm for Letter/Legal/A4. Manual two-sided routine at 75–90 gsm; no automatic duplex. Special media feed one at a time through the same tray; envelope routine and loading direction explicitly documented. Extend and adjust guides for loaded size.
Scanning arrangement
Print-only; screen printing captures computer display content, not physical originals. No scanner/copy/fax/ADF.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact model table identifies USB 2.0, not included network interfaces. No standard Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria route established.
Supplies and declared yields
Toner yield varies with coverage and printing conditions. Inspect actual cartridge/consumable condition rather than interpreting an old package as fresh toner.
Software and support
Compatible Samsung desktop driver required; original manual two-sided/booklet features are operating-system dependent. Screen-print button requires Smart Panel and documented Windows/Mac arrangement. No PIN-release evidence; do not infer it from watermark text.
Electrical edition and setup
Closed body: 341 × 224 × 184 mm / 13.43 × 8.82 × 7.24 inches; allow extra tray and service access. The source’s 4.72 kg and 10.58 lb weight figures disagree, so weight is unspecified. Regional voltage editions differ; verify the actual electrical label. This is an earlier model reference, without a current-stock claim.
