ML-1710Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible single-computer forms and reports, including ordinary Legal documents.

The main tradeoff

Host-driver support is essential; the related ML-1750’s parallel and PCL features do not belong here.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the standard ML-1710 print Legal documents over USB with 250 sheets loaded?

Yes, with compatible SPL software and correct paper settings.

The ML-1710 is the USB-only member of this comparison

The Samsung ML-1710 is an earlier black-and-white laser printer built around host-based SPL printing. Its original service manual separates it from the ML-1750: the ML-1710 uses USB, while the related model adds a parallel interface and different printer-language capabilities. Family descriptions can obscure that distinction.

Start with the computer you intend to use. Confirm that a compatible SPL driver can print your actual application’s documents. A USB socket makes the physical connection possible, but does not independently establish support on a present operating system or solve an application-language mismatch.

The main paper supply is useful for ordinary forms

The supplied tray holds up to 250 ordinary sheets. Letter, Legal and A4 are documented, making the printer relevant to a desk that mixes everyday correspondence with longer forms. Set the guides to the stock and make the same size choice in the document’s print settings.

A separate manual feed accepts one sheet. Use it for the instructed special-media routine, rather than counting it as another unattended stack. This is a practical distinction when comparing a specification sheet with what a user can actually load and leave to print.

For repeated work, confirm how the selected source behaves with your software. A saved manual-feed setting can make an ordinary job wait for attention. A full sample form can reveal page-order, margin or source mistakes before you send a longer queue.

Envelopes make the rear space part of the setup

The original guide directs envelopes through manual feeding with the rear output open. It supplies the flap and stamp-area orientation, then calls for matching source, size and media settings. Consult that illustration when loading, rather than borrowing the orientation from another printer on the desk.

Use suitable laser envelopes and avoid damaged stock, inappropriate windows or unsuitable closures. The envelope capability is helpful for occasional correspondence, but every sheet still needs the documented feeding routine. Test a small amount before buying a large supply.

The rear face-up route also needs room for emerging pages. Allow access to the rear cover and cables as well as the main tray and toner compartment. The compact closed cabinet does not mean the printer can operate comfortably against every shelf wall.

Software features do not add scanning or automatic paper handling

This model has no scanner, copying glass, original-document feeder or fax. It turns computer documents into printed pages; it cannot capture a paper form back into a file. Choose a multifunction machine if those original-handling jobs are part of your everyday work.

Automatic two-sided output is not established by the checked operating sections. A requirement for unattended automatic duplex therefore excludes this arrangement. Printer-language options and document-formatting controls should not be mistaken for an installed duplex mechanism or confidential PIN-release hardware.

If multiple people need to share the printer, include the host computer’s availability in the decision. A directly attached desktop arrangement is a different convenience from a printer with its own included network interface.

Choose on compatibility and condition before speed alone

Samsung declares up to 17 Letter pages per minute, with a separate 16-page A4 rate. The service manual’s 15,000-page monthly duty ceiling is a maximum specification, not a recommendation to repeat that volume every month. Neither figure comes from our own timing or endurance test.

An earlier offered unit needs an actual electrical-label check, available cartridge and representative print sample. Inspect how it picks up ordinary sheets and handles the materials you plan to use. Choose the ML-1710 for supported USB paperwork when its main tray fits; choose a different arrangement for included networking, scanning or confirmed automatic two-sided reports.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original 17 Letter / 16 A4 ppm. Duty maximum 15,000 pages per month, not recommended recurring volume. No measured speed claim.

Paper handling

250-sheet ordinary main tray and separate one-sheet manual path; Letter, Legal and A4. Manual feeding needs the documented source/button routine. Envelopes use rear face-up output. Automatic duplex is unestablished.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact service table makes ML-1710 USB-exclusive, USB 1.1 at 12 Mbps. Parallel and PCL belong to ML-1750, not this model. External network adapter optional, excluded from standard arrangement.

Supplies and declared yields

Check actual cartridge identity, condition and availability; no live price or remaining-toner estimate inferred from historical documentation.

Software and support

SPL host-based printing with 8 MB RAM requires compatible software. No assumption of present OS support, modern mobile protocols or PIN-release jobs.

Electrical edition and setup

Original service manual documents a 100–127 V North American configuration; offered machine plate remains unchecked. 352 × 372 × 196 mm and 7 kg / 15.4 lb net body; extra access for tray, rear output, cables and servicing required.
