ML-2851NDIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible desktop or wired-network printing of ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 documents with automatic duplex.

The main tradeoff

Extra paper capacity is optional, and this print-only model cannot scan or copy originals.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it automatically duplex ordinary Legal documents over Ethernet?

Yes, with compatible software and the specified paper setup.

Does the standard package include a 500-sheet main supply?

No. The additional 250-sheet cassette is optional.

Ethernet and automatic duplex belong to this configuration

The Samsung ML-2851ND combines a wired network interface with an included automatic duplexer. The original operating table distinguishes it from the ML-2850D, which has USB and duplex printing but no included network interface. Identify the full model when comparing family listings or photographs.

For a compatible small office, that combination can simplify shared black-and-white reports. Jobs can reach the printer over Ethernet and ordinary pages can turn automatically, without the manual refeed routine used by several earlier compact Samsung models. Computer USB remains available for a direct arrangement.

Match automatic duplex to the paper actually used

The original media instructions explicitly include Letter, Legal and A4 among the supported duplex sizes. That makes this model relevant to offices producing two-sided Legal documents, rather than assuming duplex is limited to the smallest ordinary sheet.

Paper type and weight still matter. The full range of materials accepted for a single printed side is not automatically a duplex range. Use the correct size, media type and binding settings in a compatible driver, then try an ordinary short document before sending an important batch.

Envelope printing is a different process through the manual feed. Select an appropriate envelope, load it in the documented orientation and use the correct source. Envelopes, labels and heavy specialty materials should not acquire ordinary-paper duplex permission merely because they fit through the printer.

The extra cassette is not standard capacity

The main supplied tray holds up to 250 ordinary sheets. A separate manual path accepts an individual sheet, while an additional 250-sheet cassette is an optional accessory. An offer pictured with a lower cassette therefore needs an explicit equipment check.

For routine reports, count the main stack you can load and leave to print. For occasional special materials, the individual feed can preserve ordinary stock in the cassette. For longer queues, the optional cassette can reduce loading interruptions only when it is actually supplied and working.

Loading also needs room around the cabinet. Leave clearance to remove trays, open covers, reach cables and clear the duplex path. Closed-body dimensions alone do not define a usable shelf installation. Check whether opening the rear path or withdrawing the duplex unit would require moving the whole printer.

Set up the network and software deliberately

The documented Ethernet arrangement uses a network cable, suitable addressing and compatible printing software. A configuration report helps confirm the printer’s actual address. The older network utilities and historical operating-system lists are not guarantees for every present computer.

The model includes several printer-language options, including PCL and PostScript emulation. Check the route your application needs rather than picking a similarly named generic driver and assuming all controls will appear. Automatic duplex settings must agree with the installed hardware.

Memory expansion is also optional. The guide describes adding a module and then selecting the installed amount in the PostScript driver. It should not be advertised as maximum memory already supplied, or as evidence of PIN-release printing.

Keep speed, workload and condition separate

Samsung declares up to 30 Letter pages per minute for one-sided printing, with a lower duplex image rate. A monthly duty ceiling of 30,000 pages is not a recommended recurring workload. These are original specifications rather than our own measured performance or reliability results.

Inspect the offered unit’s electrical label, consumable condition and feeding behavior. Regional voltage editions differ, and a cartridge’s declared replacement yield does not establish remaining toner. Choose the ML-2851ND when its included wired connection, documented ordinary duplex sizes and main tray fit; choose other equipment when scanning, color output or a larger supplied stack is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided rate: 30 Letter / 28 A4 ppm. Duplex has a separate 14.5 Letter / 14 A4 image rate. The 30,000-page monthly duty ceiling is not recommended recurring volume.

Paper handling

Supplied 250-sheet main tray plus a separate one-sheet manual path; the additional 250-sheet cassette is optional. Automatic duplex is documented for ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 under its media restrictions. Envelopes and other special materials use their own individual-sheet routine.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only: no glass, original-document feeder, scanner, copier or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact ND configuration includes Ethernet and computer USB. The ML-2850D has a different network package. Use correct addressing and compatible software. WiFi, Direct, AirPrint and Mopria are not established.

Supplies and declared yields

Original cartridge ratings are 2,000 standard/starter and 5,000 high-yield pages under the stated test. They do not establish actual remaining toner or present operating cost.

Software and support

PCL6, PostScript3, SPL and older emulations are listed. Memory starts at 32 MB; the optional 128 MB addition is not included capacity. Configure the actual installed amount in the compatible driver. Watermarks and administrative passwords do not establish PIN-held jobs.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier Letter-capable US reference. Closed body: 364 × 369 × 210 mm / 14.3 × 14.5 × 8.2 inches, with 11.9 kg consumable-inclusive weight, approximately 26.2 lb. Allow extra access space. Regional voltage editions differ; verify the actual label.
