A useful fit for

Compatible USB or Ethernet printing with occasional special materials and manual two-sided handling.

The main tradeoff

Wireless hardware, extra paper and memory are optional; the N configuration does not include the ND’s automatic page turner.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it print mono Legal pages over Ethernet with 300 supplied ordinary sheets?

The network printer without the automatic duplexer

The Samsung ML-3051N is an earlier monochrome workgroup printer with Ethernet and computer USB included. It adds network access and PostScript emulation over the basic family configuration, but it does not include the automatic duplexer supplied with the ML-3051ND.

That final letter matters when comparing offers. A shared family photograph, a driver option or a general description of two-sided printing can hide the difference between manual refeeding and an installed page-turning mechanism. For a wired office that mainly prints single-sided documents, the N can still provide the relevant connections.

Count the supplied paper paths correctly

The standard ordinary-paper supply totals 300 sheets: 250 in the cassette and 50 in the multipurpose tray. The additional lower 250-sheet cassette is optional. A photograph with that extra cassette should not change the capacity of a base package. Ask which trays are physically supplied and whether their guides and feed rollers are complete before comparing an expanded offer.

Letter, Legal and A4 are documented ordinary sizes. The main tray needs its guides extended and adjusted for longer Legal sheets. Match the loaded paper with the application and driver settings so that the document prints at the intended size.

The multipurpose tray is also the specialty route. When printing suitable envelopes, labels or cards, follow the loading direction, media setting and rear face-up output instructions. Opening the rear path changes how the finished sheets leave the machine, so allow space behind it.

Manual duplex is a separate working routine

Compatible software can arrange a two-sided job, but the ML-3051N requires the operator to refeed the stack. The original procedure specifies suitable ordinary paper and excludes special materials from ordinary two-sided handling. A booklet option is not proof of an automatic duplexer.

For occasional two-sided letters, the intervention may be acceptable. For repeated unattended reports, the missing mechanism is a more important limitation than network speed or processor specifications. The finder therefore rejects this exact model when automatic duplex is essential.

Before a longer run, try a short document to establish the correct binding direction and refeed orientation. Someone sharing the printer should know that a duplex job can pause for manual handling, rather than assuming every network print completes unattended.

Optional wireless is not the supplied network connection

Ethernet is included, while the original wireless interface card is optional. Its installation and configuration are described separately. A wireless setup section in a family manual does not mean that the card is present in an offered machine.

For wired use, verify the actual network address and compatible driver. The original PCL and PostScript routes can matter to older office applications, but historical operating-system lists do not guarantee present support. Test the documents and controls needed by your current computer.

Additional memory also needs an equipment check. The standard configuration and expanded maximum are different, and the driver must reflect the memory actually installed. A network administrator password or a Confidential watermark should not be mistaken for held jobs released by a PIN.

Use later specifications and inspect the actual unit

The US brochure declares up to 30 Letter pages per minute and a 35,000-page monthly duty ceiling. The latter differs from the much higher early FCC-manual figure. Neither should be presented as a recommended monthly workload or an independent endurance result.

Check the electrical plate, software, consumables and feeding condition before purchase. An old replacement-cartridge rating does not establish remaining toner. Choose the ML-3051N when included wired access, its supplied paper paths and manual duplex suit the work; choose the exact ND or other documented equipment when automatic page turning is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided rate: 30 Letter / 28 A4 ppm. The later US brochure’s 35,000-page duty ceiling differs from the early FCC guide’s 100,000 figure; the later US value is used. Recommended monthly volume remains unknown.

Paper handling

Supplied 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet multipurpose input: 300 ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 sheets. The extra 250-sheet cassette is optional. The N uses manual duplex with compatible software and 75–90 gsm ordinary stock. Envelopes and special materials have a separate multipurpose-feed and rear-output routine.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, original-document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB, Ethernet and legacy parallel are included. The 802.11b/g wireless card is optional. WiFi Direct, AirPrint and Mopria are not established.

Supplies and declared yields

ML-3050D4 and D8 replacement ratings: 4,000 and 8,000 pages under the stated test, with an original 4,000-page starter. These do not establish remaining toner or current cost.

Software and support

Both N and ND start with 64 MB memory and PCL6/PostScript3 support in compatible software. Memory expansion is optional; configure the actual installed amount in the driver. Administrative passwords and watermarks do not establish PIN-held jobs.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact earlier N and ND configurations from the US brochure. Width and weight figures conflict across original sources, so those filters remain unspecified; closed-body depth is 17.1 inches and height 11.2 inches. Regional electrical editions differ; verify the offered label and allow extra operating clearance.
