ML-3051NDIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible office printing of Letter, Legal or A4 reports when unattended two-sided output matters.

The main tradeoff

The supplied 300-sheet paper package differs from the optional 550-sheet expansion, and WiFi is not included.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it automatically duplex Legal reports over Ethernet with 300 ordinary sheets?

Yes, with compatible software and the specified ordinary-paper routine.

Choose the ND for an included automatic duplexer

The Samsung ML-3051ND is the earlier monochrome workgroup configuration with both wired Ethernet and automatic two-sided printing. Its original feature table separates that equipment from the ML-3051N, which has network access but lacks the included duplexer. Computer USB is also available for a direct setup.

For a compatible office producing routine two-sided reports, that mechanism changes the amount of manual handling. The printer can turn suitable ordinary sheets without asking someone to refeed each completed first-side stack. This is a more useful distinction than treating all family models as interchangeable network printers.

Ordinary duplex includes Legal, with restrictions

The original media list explicitly includes Letter, Legal and A4 for the documented duplex process. The driver instructions narrow that process to suitable ordinary paper at 75–90 gsm. A broader single-sided media list should not be used to promise automatic duplex on every material.

Set the correct size, paper type and binding direction in compatible software. Adjust the cassette for longer sheets and run a short ordinary-paper trial before sending a large report. Correct hardware does not prevent layout mistakes when an application and driver disagree about paper size.

Envelopes, labels and heavy specialty media use their own instructions. The multipurpose tray and rear face-up output provide a straighter specialty path, but those materials should not be sent through ordinary automatic duplex. Keep access to the rear cover clear when planning placement. If the printer will be shared, make sure other users know which tray and output path each specialty job requires.

Standard capacity is 300 ordinary sheets

The supplied configuration combines a 250-sheet main cassette with a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. A separate lower 250-sheet cassette expands capacity only when actually included. The maximum expanded figure should not replace the base package in a comparison.

Consider whether you want both supplied paths holding the same ordinary stock, or the multipurpose tray available for a different job. The headline total is less informative than how you will load paper during normal work. Specialty quantities also depend on the exact material, not the ordinary-paper total.

Leave room to extend the main tray for Legal, open covers and withdraw the duplex unit if necessary. A shelf that barely fits a closed cabinet can make routine loading or jam clearance unnecessarily difficult.

Wired access and software still need verification

The included Ethernet interface supports a configured network printing arrangement. The original wireless card is optional, so Wi-Fi should not be promised for the supplied base unit. A wireless section in the manual is an installation path for additional equipment, not proof of that equipment.

PCL and PostScript emulation provide distinct software routes. Check the driver and application you currently use, including its duplex controls. Historical operating-system compatibility is useful background but does not guarantee that every present computer can use every original feature.

Memory expansion also requires checking the installed module and driver settings. The maximum memory figure is not the supplied amount. It does not independently establish a private-job mode or PIN-release controls.

Compare practical ownership details

Samsung’s later US brochure declares up to 30 Letter pages per minute and a lower duplex output rate. Its 35,000-page monthly duty ceiling replaces a much higher early FCC-manual figure for this assessment. Duty limits are not recommended recurring workloads or measured reliability results.

Inspect the actual electrical label, toner, paper feed and software support before buying an earlier unit. Choose the ML-3051ND for compatible wired monochrome documents when its included automatic duplex sizes and supplied trays match. Choose other equipment when color output, document capture, included Wi-Fi or greater standard paper capacity is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided rate: 30 Letter / 28 A4 ppm. The later US brochure’s 35,000-page duty ceiling differs from the early FCC guide’s 100,000 figure; the later US value is used. Recommended monthly volume remains unknown.

Paper handling

Supplied 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet multipurpose input: 300 ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 sheets. The extra 250-sheet cassette is optional. Automatic duplex is explicit for these ordinary sizes at 75–90 gsm. Envelopes and special materials use their own multipurpose-feed and rear-output routine.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, original-document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB, Ethernet and legacy parallel are included. The 802.11b/g wireless card is optional. WiFi Direct, AirPrint and Mopria are not established.

Supplies and declared yields

ML-3050D4 and D8 replacement ratings: 4,000 and 8,000 pages under the stated test, with an original 4,000-page starter. These do not establish remaining toner or current cost.

Software and support

Both N and ND start with 64 MB memory and PCL6/PostScript3 support in compatible software. Memory expansion is optional; configure the actual installed amount in the driver. Administrative passwords and watermarks do not establish PIN-held jobs.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact earlier N and ND configurations from the US brochure. Width and weight figures conflict across original sources, so those filters remain unspecified; closed-body depth is 17.1 inches and height 11.2 inches. Regional electrical editions differ; verify the offered label and allow extra operating clearance.
