ML-3471ND/XAAIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible computer workflow producing black office documents over a wired network or USB, including suitable two-sided Legal pages.

The main tradeoff

The base machine has no scanner or wireless radio; the extra paper drawer is an option, and electrical edition and software compatibility need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the included Ethernet setup automatically duplex Legal documents with 300 sheets of ordinary-paper input?

Yes with a compatible driver and TCP/IP setup. Both included trays support Legal ordinary paper, and the documented duplex range includes Legal at 75–90 gsm. Adjust the cassette for the longer stock and select the proper size, source and binding.

Can a USB-connected computer print black Letter documents and use suitable envelopes in a separate routine?

Yes. USB computer printing is documented, and envelopes use the multipurpose tray under the original stock, loading and rear-output conditions. Envelope handling does not imply automatic two-sided envelope printing.

Does the network interface also provide computer scanning and standalone copying?

No. ML-3471ND is a print-only model. Ethernet and its output duplex unit do not add a scanner or copying hardware.

ML-3471ND suits a wired black-document workflow

The Samsung ML-3471ND is an earlier monochrome laser printer with Ethernet, USB and an installed automatic duplex unit. Its useful combination is shared black document output and two-sided printing without needing to add the duplex hardware.

It fits a compatible computer workflow that already has a wired network or can use USB. It is a print-only device: a document scanner, copying routine or ordinary fax requirement needs a different machine or separate equipment. The base configuration also does not include the optional wireless card.

Set up the actual connection and printer driver

The exact model has a 10/100 Ethernet interface as well as USB and parallel connections. The reviewed computer arrangements use compatible Windows printer software over Ethernet or USB. The shared family guide distinguishes ML-3471ND's fitted Ethernet interface from the neighboring ML-3470D configuration.

For network printing, configure and verify TCP/IP settings before installing the queue on each computer. The original installation procedure allows discovery or entry of the printer's address and recommends checking a network configuration page. Finding the wrong queue or address is different from a paper-handling problem.

Historic software lists establish the original arrangement, not support for every present host. Confirm that a suitable driver is available for the actual computer. A generic wireless chapter or radio compliance notice also does not establish that a particular printer contains the optional card.

Separate ordinary-paper capacity from optional expansion

The included paper arrangement combines a 250-sheet cassette and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray at the manufacturer's stated paper basis. Both paths list Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper, so suitable stock can use the full 300-sheet arrangement for those sizes.

For Legal sheets, extend the cassette using its length-guide lock and adjust the support and width guides to touch the stack lightly. Forcing the guides into the paper can introduce feeding problems. Match the paper source, size and type in the compatible driver to the material actually loaded.

An additional 250-sheet drawer is optional. A Canadian government list describes an NDT bundle with added capacity; that bundle is not evidence that every ML-3471ND includes a second cassette. Check the physical configuration when assessing a used or previously installed unit.

Automatic duplex has a narrower media range

The exact model's installed duplex unit supports Letter, Legal and A4, among the listed sizes, with ordinary paper in the declared 75–90 gsm range. Choose long-edge or short-edge binding for the intended reading direction. That decision matters for landscape documents and pages intended to turn like a calendar.

Envelopes follow a separate multipurpose-tray routine. Use suitable laser envelopes, load them with the flap down and stamp area at the upper left, and use the rear output as directed. Construction, adhesive and margin restrictions still apply.

Do not automatically duplex envelopes, labels, transparencies or thick material. An ordinary-paper duplex capability does not make every supported special medium suitable for the same return path.

Read speed, weight and supply declarations carefully

The guide declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute, compared with 33 A4. Its separate duplex figures are 18 Letter images per minute and 17 A4. These are manufacturer figures, not measured results for a particular document or computer.

Original editions differ on the monthly duty ceiling, so that number should not become a precise recurring workload recommendation. The original weight table also separates net weight including consumables from gross weight; a shipping figure is a poor basis for judging how much the operating printer weighs.

Starter, standard and high-yield cartridges have different declared yields, and starter configuration can vary. Inspect the actual supply markings and remaining condition. Finally, leave room for the extended cassette and rear output, verify the electrical label, and allow access for cartridge changes rather than planning around the closed body alone.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact original guide declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages/min or 33 A4. Automatic duplex is separately rated at up to 18 Letter images/min or 17 A4 images/min. These are manufacturer declarations under stated host, job and media conditions. The guide gives a 35,000-page monthly duty ceiling while the USA product guide gives 50,000; the precise ceiling is left unassigned. Neither establishes a recommended monthly range.

Paper handling

The included arrangement has a 250-sheet ordinary-paper cassette and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray at the stated 80 gsm capacity basis. The actual media table includes Letter, Legal and A4 for both paths. Extend and adjust the cassette guides for Legal. Automatic duplex supports those three sizes at 75–90 gsm. The additional 250-sheet drawer is optional; the Canadian NDT bundle is a different supplied configuration. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose path, flap down and stamp area at the upper left, with the rear output open. Do not automatically duplex envelopes, labels, transparencies or thick stock.

Scanning arrangement

This is a print-only monochrome laser printer. Its duplex unit turns printed output sheets; it does not scan originals, copy documents or provide fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

ML-3471ND has standard 10/100 Ethernet, USB 2.0 and parallel interfaces. The reviewed plans use compatible Windows computer printing over Ethernet or USB. Network setup requires verified TCP/IP settings, the correct printer address and a matching installed driver. The wireless LAN card is optional and is not included in either base plan. Generic radio compliance text does not establish a fitted card.

Supplies and declared yields

The original guide distinguishes a declared 4,000-page starter, which can vary by configuration, from 4,000-page standard and 10,000-page high-yield cartridges under ISO/IEC 19752. The USA table identifies ML-D3470A and ML-D3470B. Check the actual regional cartridge and installed condition; these declarations establish neither remaining life nor current running cost.

Software and support

The exact guide lists PCL and PostScript-compatible printing and 64 MB standard memory expandable to 320 MB. In compatible Windows printer properties, choose the actual paper source, size and type and the required long-edge or short-edge binding. The shared driver note about manual completion on machines without duplex does not remove the installed duplex unit documented for this exact model. Historic host lists do not guarantee current driver availability. Included AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-release printing are not established.

Electrical edition and setup

The original guide gives a 400 x 433.4 x 285 mm body, approximately 15.75 x 17.1 x 11.2 inches. It separates 12.2 kg net including consumables, approximately 26.9 lb, from 15.5 kg gross. The USA brochure’s 34.17 lb corresponds to the gross value and is not used as body weight. Allow space for the extended tray, multipurpose feed and rear output. The guide lists separate 110–127 VAC and 220–240 VAC editions and directs the owner to the rating label for frequency and electrical type; the exact supplied electrical label remains essential.
