Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a configured Wi-Fi computer print two-sided Letter with 300 included sheets and a declared 37-page one-sided Letter rate?
Yes with the compatible installed driver, supported access point/network setup and permitted paper. The exact DW column includes infrastructure Wi-Fi, automatic print duplex and the 250-plus-50 base input. The 37-page figure is the one-sided Letter declaration; the original guide gives a lower duplex rate.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Ethernet printing use automatic two-sided Legal paper and a separate suitable-envelope routine without buying another drawer?
Yes with the compatible driver and correct Letter/LGL duplex-guide setting. Legal is supported by the included ordinary inputs and automatic duplex routine. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose tray and its instructed settings and rear-path conditions; the optional 520-sheet drawer is not needed for the stated 300-sheet ordinary base.
Explore this need in the finder →Does DW mean it can scan and copy a stack of originals wirelessly?
No. Its exact original specification says Print. The model adds wireless computer printing, but has no scanner, document feeder, copier or fax. Automatic duplex concerns printed output, and Samsung software or a wireless setup button cannot provide document-capture hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →ML-3712DW/XAA adds a network choice to a print-only machine
The Samsung ML-3712DW/XAA is an earlier monochrome laser printer with USB, Gigabit Ethernet and built-in wireless networking. It fits a compatible computer installation that wants ordinary automatic two-sided printing without placing the printer beside the computer or an Ethernet socket.
That wireless convenience has a clear boundary. This is a print-only model, without a scanner, copier, document feeder or fax. DW's wireless and duplex features do not turn it into an all-in-one machine.
Configure the actual wireless network and driver
The original infrastructure procedure uses the access point's network name and security settings. The WPS button offers another setup route when the printer and access point support the documented procedure. It does not remove the need for a compatible computer driver and a reachable printer.
For the web-interface setup, the guide tells the user to disconnect the network cable before the machine starts communicating wirelessly. Plan around the selected route. The guide also discusses older ad-hoc networking, which is different from proving Wi-Fi Direct or a current native phone-printing protocol.
USB and Ethernet remain useful alternatives for an existing installation. Verify the actual model driver, operating-system support and printer address rather than relying solely on a broad Samsung software package name. The dated original software list is not a guarantee for every present computer.
Match the duplex unit to the paper being used
Letter, Legal and A4 are documented for automatic print duplex. The original guide also shows a physical Letter/LGL or A4 guide position on the duplex unit. Match that setting with the paper, driver size and binding direction before starting the job.
The included paper inputs are a 250-sheet drawer and 50-sheet multipurpose tray, totaling 300 ordinary sheets on the stated stock basis. Both cover those ordinary sizes. The optional 520-sheet drawer produces an expanded 820-sheet arrangement and should not be counted as part of the base.
For suitable envelopes and other special media, use the multipurpose tray and the original loading instructions. Envelope capacity, weight and margins differ from ordinary paper. Where creasing or heavy lines require the instructed alternative rear path, the cover and pressure-lever procedure also require operating space behind the printer.
Expanded memory and private printing are separate decisions
The exact model includes 128 MB, while the larger 384 MB figure is the expanded maximum. Its original emulation list also differs from the simpler ML-3312ND, including PostScript 3 and PCL6/5e.
Shared advanced instructions describe private or confidential printing with optional memory or storage and a configured RAM disk. Base memory and a generic menu listing do not establish that upgraded arrangement. A WPS connection PIN is also unrelated to releasing a confidential print job.
For ordinary jobs, inspect the Eco settings before using the shortcut. They can combine duplex with multiple pages per sheet, blank-page handling and toner saving. Those changes affect document layout; they are not an independently measured saving for every job.
Read the speed and cartridge declarations in context
The exact brochure and guide declare up to 37 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately from a lower duplex figure and the A4 rate. Those are manufacturer declarations. The 80,000-sheet monthly duty is another limit and does not establish a recommended sustained workload.
The documented replacement range includes standard, high and extra-high cartridges, with declared yields under the stated standard. Starter quantities need particular care: the April 2011 brochure and a later government description give different supplied-cartridge figures. Check the actual package and region instead of promising either quantity for an existing unit.
ML-3712DW is most sensible when its genuine wireless computer-printing and paper-handling capabilities meet the job. Choose another verified arrangement when document capture, included passcode release or a particular native phone workflow is essential, and confirm the actual power label and software before continued use.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The exact ML-3712DW brochure column and original ML-371x guide rate one-sided printing at up to 37 Letter pages/min and 35 A4 pages/min. The guide separately gives up to 18 Letter or 17 A4 pages/min for duplex printing. These are historical manufacturer declarations, not measured application throughput. The 80,000-sheet monthly duty does not establish a recommended sustained monthly workload, which remains unknown. The effective 1,200 x 1,200 dpi and any Samsung benchmark are not a physical-resolution measurement or this site’s test.
Paper handling
The base configuration includes a 250-sheet drawer and 50-sheet multipurpose tray, totaling 300 ordinary sheets on the original guide’s 80 gsm basis. Both list Letter, Legal and A4. Automatic print duplex supports those sizes with permitted paper, and the physical duplex-size guide must be positioned for Letter/LGL or A4 as appropriate. The optional 520-sheet MLS3712A drawer is excluded from the base; 820 is an expanded configuration. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose tray and the original loading diagram/media settings, with five-envelope capacity in the exact brochure and the guide’s weight/margin conditions. For instructed troubleshooting of creases or heavy lines, the guide opens the rear path and lowers the right pressure lever, leaving the rear cover open during that routine. No duplex-envelope capability is assigned.
Scanning arrangement
The original exact model table identifies ML-3712DW as a print-only monochrome laser printer. DW adds wireless networking and automatic two-sided printed output, not a scanner, document feeder, copier or fax. General Samsung printer/scanner software names or glossary entries do not change that hardware boundary.
Computer and mobile connections
The exact DW column includes USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n wireless networking. The original infrastructure setup uses the access point’s network name/security credentials and compatible installed computer software. WPS requires the appropriate supported router procedure; its connection PIN is not a confidential-job passcode. The original web-interface procedure says to disconnect the network cable to start infrastructure wireless operation after setup. It separately discusses ad-hoc networking; that older peer mode is not evidence of Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria. The reviewed plans keep USB, Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi separate and do not promise modern native mobile protocols.
Supplies and declared yields
The original brochure and guide identify standard MLT-D205S at 2,000 pages, high MLT-D205L at 5,000 and extra-high MLT-D205E at 10,000 for the ML-371x series, under ISO/IEC 19752 conditions. The April 2011 Samsung America brochure says the DW ships with a 5,000-page starter; the preserved September 2014 US government description instead says a 2,000-page starter. These dated declarations are retained as a package difference or unresolved source discrepancy, without promising either quantity in a present unit. Check its actual supplied cartridge and compatible regional markings. HP’s exact XAA/SS136A supply cross-reference provides further identity evidence, not current stock or price. No cost per page or remaining-life calculation is made.
Software and support
ML-3712DW includes a 600 MHz processor and 128 MB memory; 384 MB is the expanded maximum. Its exact brochure lists PostScript 3 and PCL6/5e emulations in addition to the other named print languages. Shared instructions for confidential/private jobs require optional storage or memory and an enabled RAM disk. This record therefore does not treat base 128 MB or a generic Print Mode menu as included PIN release. A CONFIDENTIAL watermark and a WPS setup PIN have different purposes. Eco settings may alter duplex, pages per sheet, blank-page handling and toner saving; confirm the actual driver and administrative defaults for the intended layout. Dated operating-system lists do not guarantee every current version or a retired application/service.
Electrical edition and setup
The original guide gives the ML-371xDW body without optional tray as 366 x 368 x 252.9 mm, or 14.40 x 14.48 x 9.96 inches, and 9.95 kg/21.94 lb with consumables. The brochure rounds width/depth to 14.41/14.49 inches; no carton or added-drawer size is substituted. Allow operating access beyond this closed body, especially for paper and the rear path. The US Samsung America material and exact XAA mapping establish the US configuration context, while the guide separately identifies 110–127 VAC and 220–240 VAC electrical editions and directs the user to the actual rating label. This is an earlier model reference, without a present software-support, supply-availability or stock promise.
