ML-4050N/XAAIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office producing black documents that needs a substantial included ordinary-paper supply and can use single-sided output.

The main tradeoff

The base N configuration does not include automatic duplex, wireless or hard-disk private-job printing, and it has no scanner.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the base Ethernet arrangement print Legal documents with 600 sheets of suitable ordinary-paper input?

Yes with verified TCP/IP settings and a compatible driver. The exact media table lists Legal for the 500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose path. Extend and adjust the cassette and match source, size and type settings to the stock.

Can a USB-connected computer print Letter documents and use suitable envelopes separately?

Yes. The original guide documents USB printing and the multipurpose envelope routine. Envelope loading needs the stated flap orientation, stock restrictions and rear-output settings; it does not require counting an optional drawer.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the ML-4050N base package automatically duplex Letter pages because the family guide lists a duplex speed?

No. Automatic duplex requires an optional physical unit. Its published speed describes that equipped arrangement, and a neighboring ND model or NDT bundle does not establish that the unit is included in base N.

ML-4050N puts ordinary-paper capacity ahead of included duplex

The Samsung ML-4050N is an earlier print-only monochrome laser with a 500-sheet cassette, a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and standard wired connections. It suits a compatible office computer workflow producing black documents with a substantial paper reserve.

The deciding limitation is its base configuration. Automatic duplex, a wireless card and hard-disk job storage are options. A published duplex speed or a photograph showing extra drawers does not mean those accessories are supplied with every ML-4050N.

Build the queue around the actual wired interface

The exact model provides Ethernet, USB and a parallel interface. The reviewed arrangements use compatible Windows printer software over Ethernet or USB. There is no scanner, so network connectivity does not add original capture, standalone copying or fax.

For Ethernet, assign and verify the TCP/IP settings before installing the queue on each computer. Confirm that the driver points to the intended machine and that ordinary output works before investigating more specialized settings. The software guide treats local cable printing and network printing as separate installation routines.

Check software compatibility for the actual host. The original operating-system list explains the printer's historical setup, while current driver availability requires its own check. The optional wireless card also has regional availability conditions; it should not be assumed present because a shared guide includes wireless configuration instructions.

Use the included trays without borrowing a bundle's capacity

The ordinary-paper table lists Letter, Legal and A4 for the included 500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose path. At the declared paper basis, that supports a 600-sheet arrangement for those sizes. It does not make the same capacity applicable to thick stock or envelopes.

Adjust the cassette's back plate, length guide and width guides for the actual paper. Country presets may be Letter or A4, so a machine's initial guide position is not its full supported size range. Load the main cassette print side down and avoid squeezing the stack tightly enough to bend it.

Additional 500-sheet drawers are options. A Canadian government list describes an NDT bundle with extra input and duplex even while using the N printer part number. That is a supplied bundle, rather than proof that the base printer has the same equipment.

Keep special media and automatic duplex conditions separate

Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose tray. The guide specifies the flap down and stamp area at the upper left, with the rear output open and the fuser levers adjusted as directed. Observe the restrictions on construction, adhesives, heat tolerance and printable margins.

The original guide lists automatic duplex media and a duplex performance figure, but the panel's duplex setting is available when the optional unit is installed. A driver offering manual completion on an unequipped printer also does not turn that printer into an automatic duplex model.

If automatic two-sided output is essential, verify the installed unit and its compatible settings or select a documented configuration that includes it. Do not assume that an ND suffix, a different bundle or a neighboring model's specification describes base ML-4050N.

Check job-storage options, supplies and working space

Private, stored and proof jobs depend on the optional hard disk. The guide requires installing it, checking the configuration and enabling it in driver properties. A broad family claim about document security is therefore insufficient for an included PIN-release requirement.

The manufacturer declares up to 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute, compared with 38 A4. Its maximum monthly duty declaration is a ceiling, not a recommended sustained workload. Declared cartridge yields likewise do not establish remaining supply life or present running cost.

Verify the actual electrical label and leave access for the multipurpose feed, rear output and maintenance. Original weight figures differ, so a precise lifting plan should use the actual configured machine rather than an unresolved catalog value.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact guide declares up to 40 one-sided Letter pages/min or 38 A4. Its 27 Letter and 26 A4 images/min duplex figures require the optional duplex unit and are not a base capability. The original guide and USA PrintCycle material declare a maximum monthly duty of 200,000 pages; that is not a recommended recurring print volume. No recommended monthly range is established.

Paper handling

The included configuration has a 500-sheet cassette and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray at the original 75 gsm basis. Both list Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper. Extend the back plate and set the length and width guides for the actual size. Optional 500-sheet drawers are excluded. A Canadian NDT bundle with 1,100-sheet input and automatic duplex is not the base N package. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose path, flap down with the stamp area at the upper left; open the rear output and move its fuser levers as the exact guide directs. Envelope stock, construction, heat and margin restrictions remain applicable.

Scanning arrangement

This is a print-only monochrome laser device. A panel setting for the number of printed copies means multiple output copies of a computer job; it does not establish an original-document scanner, copying hardware or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact ML-4050N has standard USB 2.0, parallel and 10/100 Ethernet interfaces. Reviewed plans use compatible Windows computer printing over USB or wired Ethernet. Network installation requires assigned and verified TCP/IP settings and installation of the correct model queue. The 802.11b/g LAN card is optional, with regional availability conditions, and is excluded from these base arrangements.

Supplies and declared yields

The original ordering table identifies ML-D4550A at a declared 10,000 pages and ML-D4550B at 20,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752, with operating and media conditions affecting yield. Check actual regional supply markings and the supplied cartridge rather than treating a replacement yield as remaining starter life. The historical PrintCycle program is not a current service, supply subscription, price or stock promise.

Software and support

The original software setup describes compatible Windows PCL and PostScript printing. The optional hard disk must be physically installed, checked on a configuration page and enabled in driver properties before its stored, proof or private-job functions are used. Those functions do not qualify the base package for included PIN-release printing. Automatic duplex is also an optional hardware configuration. Earlier software lists do not establish current driver availability, AirPrint or Mopria. Original editions differ on included RAM, so no exact memory amount is promised.

Electrical edition and setup

The original user guide and USA guide agree on a 396 x 453 x 353 mm body, approximately 15.6 x 17.8 x 13.9 inches. The user guide states 21.2 kg including consumables while the USA table gives 37.6 lb; the unresolved weight basis is left unassigned. Allow room for the extended paper path, rear output and top access. Separate 110–127 VAC and 220–240 VAC editions are listed, with the actual voltage, frequency and electrical type to be verified on the machine rating label.
