SL-M4020NDIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible wired Legal reports when automatic duplex and a controlled desktop job queue matter.

The main tradeoff

The DW radio is not included; maximum paper and memory figures require optional expansion.

The higher wired model has its own cartridge range

The Samsung ProXpress M4020ND is an earlier monochrome printer with USB, Gigabit Ethernet and automatic duplex. Its original US brochure distinguishes it from both the smaller M3320ND and wireless M3820DW. The largest listed toner option is one useful difference, alongside its declared document-printing rate.

That does not make every offer with a high-yield family name suitable. Check the exact cartridge code and printer model before comparing replacements. A cartridge’s stated yield also does not tell you how much toner remains in an earlier offered unit.

A wired queue still needs compatible software

The included Ethernet interface can make the printer independently reachable by compatible office computers. Establish the actual address, queue and driver you will use. A network cable alone cannot ensure that a present application has the correct printing arrangement.

The M4020ND does not inherit the M3820DW’s included radio or Direct route. If wireless placement is essential, verify another configuration rather than assuming that all ProXpress printers share the same interfaces.

For recurring forms, test the complete file from the actual application. Check margins, paper source and page order, not only a local demonstration page. A known-good sample makes later settings or driver changes easier to identify.

Confidential release has a documented setup

The guide describes enabling RAM Disk through the printer’s web settings, sending a password-protected Confidential job from compatible software, then selecting the stored job and entering its password at the panel. This is different from simply printing the word Confidential on a page.

The basic RAM-based modes do not require an optional hard drive. Larger or more complex documents can still need additional memory, and permanent storage has separate requirements. Confirm which controls appear in your actual driver and try a representative held job before relying on the arrangement.

Network administrative authentication and document release serve different purposes. Configure the routine you need for the people sharing the printer rather than treating one password as proof that every printed page is protected.

Supplied paper capacity and maximum capacity differ

The main cassette holds 250 ordinary sheets and the multipurpose feed holds 50. That is 300 supplied ordinary sheets. The extra cassette is optional, so the expanded total does not belong to every base offered unit.

A second source can keep special stock ready without disturbing the main supply. It still needs deliberate source, size and type settings. In a shared office, agree which material goes where so another person’s document does not use the wrong paper.

Automatic duplex supports ordinary Legal reports

The original operating instructions document the two-sided routine for Letter, Legal and A4. Check binding and orientation with a complete short report before leaving a larger queue to run. The desired page-turning direction is a practical part of the setup.

Envelopes, labels and other special materials need their own instructions. Ordinary duplex permission does not cover every material accepted elsewhere. Allow space for the cassette, multipurpose feed, covers and rear connections, rather than fitting only the closed cabinet onto a shelf.

Choose for printing, not original capture

The M4020ND cannot scan, copy or fax originals. Its duplexer turns output sheets, not incoming paperwork. A document-capture requirement calls for another machine or a separate scanner arrangement.

Samsung’s declared Letter speed and monthly duty ceiling are original specifications rather than our own timing or reliability results. The maximum duty figure is not recommended recurring volume. Check the actual electrical label, supplies, feed behavior and password-release routine. Choose the M4020ND when its wired workflow and supplied sources fit; choose another configuration when wireless, scanning or a larger standard stack is central.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared 42 Letter ppm; 100,000 maximum monthly duty not recommended recurring volume.

Paper handling

Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 supported, including actual automatic two-sided routine in original guide 195–196. Binding and media settings matter. Envelopes, labels and other special stock follow their own instructed bypass route; duplex permission is not borrowed from ordinary paper. Extra cassette is optional. Supplied 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet multipurpose input=300 ordinary sheets; optional 520-sheet cassette raises total 820.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

M4020ND includes USB and Gigabit Ethernet. No wireless or Direct plan borrowed from M3820DW. Configure actual addressing and compatible desktop driver.

Supplies and declared yields

Original standard / starter 3,000, high 5,000, extra-high 10,000 and ultra-high 15,000-page options under ISO/IEC 19752. Larger cartridge compatibility is specific to M4020, not the entire family. Current cost/remaining toner unknown.

Software and support

Original US brochure lists SPL, PCL5e/6, PS3 and legacy emulations; compatible actual driver required. Historical OS lists do not guarantee present support. Maximum memory and expanded permanent storage are not standard equipment. Exact numeric-panel configuration supports enabled RAM Disk and compatible desktop Confidential mode, then Stored Job password release. Basic Normal/Proof/Confidential modes need no optional storage; larger jobs and permanent storage have separate requirements.

Electrical edition and setup

Original exact US configuration reference. Approximate closed body 14.4 × 14.4 × 10.3 inches, not the shipping box. Allow tray, rear-path, cartridge and cable access. Actual offered electrical label requires checking.
