ProXpress SL-M4070FR/XAAIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office handling two-sided originals and black output, with registered computer scanning and configured driver-to-keypad confidential printing.

The main tradeoff

The base FR has no established built-in wireless route, its feeder reverses originals, and its higher duty ceiling does not replace the recommended monthly range.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the wired arrangement automatically duplex Legal output, scan both sides of Legal originals and release compatible jobs with a PIN?

Yes with installed MFP software, a registered computer scan destination and RAM Disk confidential printing configured. The exact XAA source identifies a reversing feeder, and the document range includes Legal within capture margins. Ordinary analog fax needs its additional compatible line.

Can the compatible USB setup scan A4 originals in color using both the flatbed and feeder?

Yes. Both physical routes support A4 within their stated document and effective-scan limits, and USB computer scanning is documented with compatible MFP software. The output remains black.

Does base M4070FR provide the same built-in Wi-Fi computer connection as the related M3870FW?

No. The exact FR configuration is documented with USB and wired Ethernet, while the family guide assigns the wireless radio to M387xFW. A mobile device reaching a wired printer through a network does not add a radio to the printer.

M4070FR suits a wired office that handles two-sided originals

The Samsung ProXpress M4070FR/XAA is an earlier black laser multifunction configuration combining printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. Its 50-sheet reversing document feeder and automatic print duplex support an office routine that needs both document capture and two-sided output.

Its main connection choice is wired. USB and Ethernet are documented for the exact FR configuration, while the related M3870FW adds a wireless radio. Do not choose the FR expecting that neighboring model's built-in Wi-Fi arrangement.

Separate original capture from printed duplex

The original USA configuration list explicitly identifies an auto-reversing document feeder. It automatically captures both original sides by reversing the sheet, rather than using a single-pass scanning mechanism. Choose the correct one-sided, two-sided or rotated-original setting for the document.

The feeder accommodates suitable originals through Legal size within its declared document and effective-scan limits. Prepare a uniform stack, remove clips and staples, and load it face up with the guides adjusted. An automatic feeder does not make damaged, curled or mixed unsuitable originals safe to batch.

The glass has a separate 297 mm maximum original length. Letter and A4 fit within its capture conditions, while a full Legal original belongs in the feeder. Place glass originals face down at the upper-left registration mark and clear the feeder first, because it has priority when both routes contain documents.

Make the wired computer workflow complete

The reviewed compatible Windows arrangement uses Ethernet or USB with the model's MFP software. A print-only installation can leave the scanner routine unavailable, so confirm the scanner components and intended destination as well as ordinary printing.

Network Scan to PC needs a registered computer ID and its configured password when required. Network TWAIN and WSD have their own application and driver conditions. The guide's WIA routine is tied to a direct USB connection, rather than automatically applying to every network queue.

AirPrint uses a separate supported local-network routine. A phone or tablet can reach a wired printer through a suitable network access point, but that does not put a Wi-Fi radio inside the printer. Verify current host-software availability and the required network protocols.

Confidential printing needs setup and has memory limits

The exact USA material describes confidential jobs sent from a compatible driver and released by entering a PIN at the keypad. The operating guide explains enabling RAM Disk in the network administration interface and selecting the secured job at the panel.

This is different from the password used to identify a computer scan destination. It also has a practical storage limit: complex jobs can exceed RAM Disk capacity and may require optional memory. Do not treat included confidential printing as an unlimited job archive or assume every driver exposes the same controls.

Use the actual paper configuration and workload recommendation

The operating guide and exact technical table establish a 250-sheet cassette plus a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper can use that 300-sheet arrangement at the declared capacity basis. The additional cassette is an option, not included input.

Set the tray and duplex-unit guides for the actual size and match device and driver paper settings. Special media use their own restrictions and output routine. Keep the automatic duplex return path appropriate for the job, and clear longer Legal output before excessive sheets accumulate.

The 42-page-per-minute one-sided Letter declaration is separate from duplex images per minute. The current exact-model recommended monthly range also remains separate from the much larger maximum duty ceiling. Check the integrated cartridge's regional markings, connect fax to compatible telephone service, and leave working room for document handling, maintenance and extended paper paths.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact model declares up to 42 one-sided Letter pages/min, compared with 40 A4. The service table separately declares up to 21 Letter or 20 A4 duplex images/min. Scanner images/min and copy rates are different figures. The current exact-model manufacturer page recommends 1,500–3,500 pages per month; an older service table’s broader M407x range of 2,000–4,000 is not substituted for that exact current recommendation. The 100,000-page duty ceiling remains separate. These are manufacturer declarations, not measured performance.

Paper handling

The operating guide, exact USA brochure and current manufacturer model specification establish a 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet multipurpose tray, with the ordinary-paper table supporting Letter, Legal and A4 at the declared 80 gsm capacity basis. The 2016 configuration list’s one-sheet bypass line conflicts with those operating sources and is not used as the base feed description. A 520-sheet expansion cassette is optional. Adjust the tray guides and the duplex-unit guide for the actual Letter/Legal or A4 position; match source, size and type in the device and driver. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose path under original stock, orientation, adhesive and margin conditions. The special-media rear-output routine is separate from automatic duplex, which requires the appropriate closed return path. Clear Legal output before excessive stacking; the guide warns about more than 50 one-sided Legal sheets in the output area.

Scanning arrangement

The exact model has a color CIS flatbed and a 50-sheet automatic reversing document feeder. The USA XAA list explicitly calls it RADF, so it supports automatic two-sided original capture without being single-pass. The feeder’s original range reaches 216 x 356 mm, with effective scan margins, while the glass is limited to 216 x 297 mm and its own margins. Letter and A4 fit both routes; Legal fits the feeder and is not assigned to the glass. Load feeder originals face up and suitable glass originals face down at the upper-left registration guide. Color capture does not provide color printed output.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact FR configuration has USB and wired Ethernet. The operating guide differentiates its 10/100/1000 network interface from other family configurations, while Wi-Fi is assigned to M387xFW. No built-in radio or Wi-Fi Direct arrangement is established for base M4070FR. Compatible Windows computer printing and scanning work over the reviewed wired network or USB setup with installed MFP software and a registered computer scan destination. A mobile device can use the supported local-network AirPrint arrangement through a suitable access point even when the printer is wired. Fax additionally requires a separate compatible analog LINE connection.

Supplies and declared yields

M4070FR uses the integrated D203 cartridge system. The exact USA table lists declared replacement yields of 3,000 pages for MLT-D203S, 5,000 for MLT-D203L, 10,000 for MLT-D203E and 15,000 for MLT-D203U, under ISO/IEC 19752. It separately declares a supplied 3,000-page standard cartridge. Some narrative brochure footnotes use an inconsistent neighboring model name; the exact model specification and compatibility table govern this supply list. Check regional markings and installed condition. A higher declared cartridge yield does not establish present remaining life, stock or running cost.

Software and support

Compatible Windows MFP software supports USB and network computer scanning. The USB routine uses Scan to PC; network operation needs installed scanner components, an enabled Scan to PC destination and its registered ID/password, or compatible network TWAIN/WSD software. The guide’s WIA routine is USB-specific. Included PIN-release printing is a distinct driver Confidential mode: enable RAM Disk through SyncThru Web Service, send a compatible job with its password, then use Job Management > Secured Job at the numeric-keypad panel to release or delete it. Complex jobs can exceed RAM Disk capacity and may need optional memory. This is not an unlimited storage promise. AirPrint has its own certified-model, local-network, Bonjour/mDNS and IPP conditions; desktop PIN, scanning and duplex settings are not borrowed into the mobile plan.

Electrical edition and setup

The later user guide and current exact-model manufacturer table agree on an approximately 469 x 444.3 x 482.1 mm body, or about 18.5 x 17.5 x 19 inches, and 17.07 kg including consumables, about 37.6 lb. Measurements exclude handset and other accessories. An earlier service summary gives inconsistent heavier weight and slightly different width, so the later operating guide and exact model table govern this body description. Extended paper handling, rear access and lifting the scanner need additional working room. The US XAA configuration and manufacturer table establish a 110–127 VAC, 50/60 Hz edition; a separate 220–240 VAC edition also exists. Verify the actual rating label.
