Samsung M4560FX: single-pass originals and wired black office output review

A wired MFP for repeated two-sided document work

The Samsung ProXpress M4560FX combines black laser printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. Its single-pass document feeder and included hard drive make it relevant to an office handling batches of two-sided originals and protected print jobs.

The reviewed SS399C US configuration has USB and Gigabit Ethernet as standard. Wireless LAN and NFC need the optional kit. Its seven-inch color touchscreen is a control interface, and its color scanner captures color documents; neither feature turns the black print engine into a color printer.

Legal scanning belongs in the feeder

The 50-sheet Dual Scan Document Feeder captures both sides at once. That explicit description establishes a single-pass mechanism, rather than an automatic reversing feeder. Select the appropriate original-side settings and prepare a suitable, aligned stack before loading it face up.

The feeder's document range reaches 216 by 356 mm, accommodating suitable Legal originals within the stated capture margins. The M4560FX glass has a separate 216 by 297 mm maximum. Letter and A4 fit there; a full Legal sheet does not. The larger glass on the related M4562FX must not be assumed for this model.

Use the glass for suitable originals that should not travel through the feeder. Place them face down at the registration guide and keep the feeder clear when using that route. Inspect captured pages before discarding or returning important originals.

Paper weight changes the capacity calculation

The familiar manufacturer headline is 650 sheets: a 550-sheet cassette plus a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. The service specification makes the stock basis more precise. The cassette holds 550 at 75 gsm but 520 at 80 gsm, while the multipurpose path is rated for 100 at 80 gsm.

For a consistent 80 gsm arrangement, this review therefore uses 620 sheets. That distinction matters if the purpose is to reduce refills with the paper actually used by the office. Extra cassettes and the stand remain optional, and ordinary-paper capacity does not carry over to envelopes or heavier stock.

Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in the base paper paths and in automatic print duplex under the specified stock conditions. Set the physical guides and match the device and driver source, size and type. Automatic printed duplex and automatic original capture are separate settings.

Complete the computer and security setup

The reviewed computer workflow uses compatible MFP software over USB or Ethernet, including the scanner components and a suitable TWAIN application. Printing successfully does not by itself prove that scanning destinations, discovery and access permissions are configured correctly.

The included hard drive is declared as 320 GB, with approximately 279 GB available to the user. A compatible driver's Confidential mode stores a protected job for release using its ID and password at the machine. This differs from adding a “confidential” watermark or signing into the administration interface.

AirPrint and Mopria provide separate supported local-network printing arrangements. A mobile device can reach an Ethernet printer through an appropriate access point without adding a radio to the printer. Check current software and service availability instead of relying on every historical app or cloud logo in the brochure.

Plan supplies, workload and installation together

The declared 47 one-sided Letter pages per minute is distinct from duplex images per minute and the feeder's scan rate. The recommended monthly range of 2,000–15,000 pages is also separate from the much higher maximum duty ceiling.

The initial toner declaration is 7,000 pages; replacement MLT-D303E toner is declared at 40,000 under its toner test standard. The separate imaging unit has a different stated life basis. Check actual consumable condition and regional markings, allow handling and maintenance clearance, and verify the US machine's rating label. It is not a universal-voltage design, and fax still requires its own compatible telephone connection.
