SCX-4828FNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office using black output, registered computer scanning, one-sided Legal feeder originals and separately connected analog fax.

The main tradeoff

The standard cassette excludes the optional expansion tray, printed duplex does not establish two-sided original capture, and current host software needs checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the wired computer arrangement automatically duplex Legal output and capture one-sided Legal originals in color?

Yes with compatible MFP software, suitable 75–90 gsm duplex stock and registered network scan credentials. Legal originals fit the feeder’s document range within capture margins. The included automatic paper supply is the 250-sheet cassette; analog fax additionally needs its compatible telephone line.

Can a compatible USB computer use both the glass and feeder routes when no exact original size is requested?

Yes. Both physical routes and USB computer scanning are positively documented. The feeder has explicit original-size limits. The selected glass evidence does not establish a precise paper-size list, so unspecified size does not promise full-size glass coverage.

Does the printed duplex feature establish automatic capture of both sides of Legal originals?

No qualifying capture route is established. The reviewed original instructions document automatic two-sided output separately from feeder scanning. A selected requirement for automatic two-sided original capture therefore excludes this profile.

A wired multifunction arrangement with automatic black duplex output

The Samsung SCX-4828FN is an earlier monochrome laser multifunction printer combining printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. Its standard connections are USB and Ethernet, making it a possible fit for a compatible wired office with repeated black document output.

The exact model matters within the family. The original guide distinguishes 4828FN's automatic print duplex, direct USB-memory functions, email scan and PostScript support from features on the neighboring 4824FN. Do not treat a shared manual cover as proof that both configurations have identical equipment.

Use the cassette for the reviewed duplex arrangement

The included cassette holds 250 sheets of suitable ordinary 80 gsm paper. A separate one-sheet manual tray serves attended or special-media feeding, while another 250-sheet cassette is optional. The expansion drawer should not appear in the base capacity.

Automatic print duplex supports Letter, Legal and A4 from the cassette under the stated 75–90 gsm stock conditions. Extend and adjust the paper tray correctly for Legal, then match the application, driver and device size and type. The manual slot is not an extra unattended duplex sheet.

Envelopes use their own one-at-a-time manual path and construction requirements. Avoid unsuitable windows, clasps, damaged folds or adhesives, and follow the required margins. A broad ordinary-paper size range does not remove special-media restrictions.

Separate printed duplex from original capture

The 50-sheet document feeder accepts suitable originals through Legal size within its document and effective capture limits. Load prepared pages face up with the width guides adjusted. Remove fasteners and avoid mixed, curled or otherwise unsuitable stacks.

The glass is a separate route for suitable originals that should not pass through the feeder. Place the original face down at the top-left registration guide and keep the feeder empty when using the glass, because loaded feeder originals take priority.

The built-in print duplex feature and two-sided output copying do not establish automatic capture of both sides of an original. If the job requires automatic two-sided document capture, confirm that function independently rather than relying on the word “duplex” in a print or copy headline.

Computer scanning requires the correct software destination

The original guide documents USB and network computer scanning with compatible MFP software. Samsung Scan Manager and TWAIN can use either connection, while WIA is tied to USB in the reviewed instructions. Installing only a print queue can leave the scan workflow incomplete.

A registered network scan destination uses its user ID and four-digit Scan Manager PIN. That credential identifies the computer scan destination; it does not prove that ordinary computer print jobs can be held and released with a PIN at the printer.

Email scanning is another distinct arrangement. It needs network parameters, an SMTP account and any configured user authentication. Check current server compatibility before relying on the older instructions. Fax likewise requires its separate compatible telephone connection rather than just the Ethernet cable.

Assess the workload and the particular unit

The manufacturer declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute, compared with 28 A4. Duplex images per minute are a separate measurement. Color capture also remains separate from the black print engine; the scanner does not make color output available.

The 50,000-page maximum monthly duty ceiling should not become a recommended monthly target. Consider the document mix, refill interval, scanning routine and software support needed by the office. Original operating-system lists do not guarantee that a current host has a suitable driver.

The USA configuration's initial toner declaration is 2,000 pages, with different standard and higher-yield replacement choices. Check actual consumable life and regional markings. Leave room around the roughly 32-pound base body for extended paper, the scanner and maintenance, and verify the actual electrical rating label before installation.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The manufacturer declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages/min or 28 A4. Duplex output uses a separate images/min measure: the guide gives up to 14, while the Canadian leaflet gives 14 A4 and 14.5 Letter. No single precise Letter duplex rate is forced across that difference. The 50,000-page maximum monthly duty ceiling is not a recommended monthly workload; recommendation endpoints remain unverified. Color scanning does not provide color printing, and these declarations are not measured performance.

Paper handling

The reviewed automatic-feed arrangement uses the included 250-sheet cassette at 80 gsm for suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary stock. The separate one-sheet manual tray is for attended feeding and special media, and is not added to cassette capacity for an automatic duplex job. The additional 250-sheet cassette and memory expansion are optional. Automatic printed duplex supports Letter, Legal and A4 from the main cassette under the narrower 75–90 gsm stock conditions. Extend and adjust the tray for Legal, match driver and device paper settings, and keep manual special-media jobs separate. Suitable envelopes use the manual path one at a time with the guide’s stock, construction and margin restrictions.

Scanning arrangement

The exact 4x28 configuration includes a 50-sheet ADF rated at 75 gsm, with an original range of 142–216 mm wide and 148–356 mm long. Suitable Letter, Legal and A4 feeder originals are documented within effective capture margins. The glass is a separately documented color scanner route. Its selected table gives effective capture width and length, but does not establish the precise maximum original size list, so no exact paper sizes are assigned to the glass route. Automatic printed duplex and two-sided output copying do not establish an automatic duplex original-capture route. Load the feeder face up or glass face down at the top-left guide; clear the feeder before glass use.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and 10/100 Ethernet are documented for the exact model. No included Wi-Fi radio is established. Compatible Windows MFP software supports computer scanning over either USB or the configured wired network. Samsung Scan Manager and TWAIN support local or network connection; WIA is a USB-specific workflow. A network scan destination requires its registered user ID and four-digit Scan Manager PIN. That scan credential is not proof of protected computer print release. Current driver availability for a particular host must be checked independently of the original supported-system list.

Supplies and declared yields

The reviewed US configuration declares a 2,000-page initial toner supply. MLT-D209S replacement is declared at 2,000 pages and MLT-D209L at 5,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. This is an integrated cartridge system; check actual remaining life and regional supply markings. Nominal yield does not establish present running cost or availability.

Software and support

The original feature matrix distinguishes 4828FN’s direct USB-memory functions, email scan and PostScript support from the neighboring 4824FN. Direct scan-to-email needs compatible network settings, an SMTP account and any configured local or network user authentication; it is separate from scanning to a registered computer. Historical server instructions do not promise compatibility with every current email service. No AirPrint, Mopria or protected print-release arrangement is established by the reviewed originals. Ordinary fax needs its own compatible analog telephone LINE connection, not just Ethernet.

Electrical edition and setup

The base body is approximately 17.5 x 16.2 x 15.6 inches and 32 lb including the replaceable consumable, without the optional cassette. Extended Legal handling, scanner lifting, rear access and maintenance require additional clearance. The operating guide distinguishes 110–127 VAC and 220–240 VAC editions but refers voltage and frequency confirmation to the physical rating label, leaving complete US mains compatibility unverified here. A US-authored model datasheet establishes regional model identity, not the electrical condition of a particular machine.
