SCX-4835FD/XAAIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office that prints black documents and scans suitable single-sided batches, including Legal originals through the feeder.

The main tradeoff

The FD feeder does not automatically capture both sides, Wi-Fi is absent, and the glass is shorter than a full Legal original.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an Ethernet arrangement duplex Legal output and receive single-sided Legal color scans?

Yes with compatible MFP software and a registered Network PC destination. Adjust the duplex and tray guides and paper settings for Legal. The one-sided feeder supports suitable Legal originals, and base ordinary-paper input is 300 sheets. Fax needs its separate telephone line.

Can USB operation scan A4 from the glass and feeder and print suitable envelopes?

Yes. Install compatible scanner software and enable Local PC scanning. Both A4 original routes are supported. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray with their own stock and loading limits, rather than the ordinary-paper cassette.

Does automatic print duplex mean this FD can automatically scan both original sides?

No. FD has a one-sided automatic document feeder. Automatic two-sided output is supported, but the reversing feeder belongs to different FR configurations.

The FD is a wired monochrome configuration

The Samsung SCX-4835FD/XAA combines black laser printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. USB and 10/100 Ethernet are included, along with automatic print duplex. It is a practical arrangement for compatible wired computers that need everyday office output and single-sided document capture.

Read the FD suffix carefully. The original model table distinguishes it from FR configurations with a reversing document feeder and Gigabit Ethernet, and from larger FW configurations with wireless networking. Those features should not be added to this machine simply because they appear nearby in a shared family guide.

Automatic output duplex does not turn the originals

The FD's 50-sheet automatic document feeder scans one side of an original. It can help process an aligned batch, but it does not automatically capture both faces. A duplex original needs a deliberate manual workflow or a different scanner arrangement. Selecting two-sided output only changes how the resulting pages are printed.

The original feeder range reaches 216 by 356 mm, supporting suitable Letter, Legal and A4 originals within capture margins. Its stated stack capacity uses 75 gsm paper. Load the stack face up, remove clips and staples, and adjust the guides without bending the sheets.

The glass accepts originals to 216 by 297 mm. Letter and A4 fit, while a full Legal original is too long. Place an individual original face down at the registration guide and clear the feeder first, since detected feeder originals receive priority. Physical original size also differs from the smaller effective scanned image area.

Give the receiving computer its own scan setup

A print queue alone does not configure computer scanning. Install the compatible MFP software and its scanner components. USB operation uses Local PC, with scanning enabled in Easy Printer Manager and a selected application or receiving folder.

Ethernet operation uses a registered Network PC destination. Choose the computer ID at the panel and enter its configured four-digit password when requested. Check the port and destination settings if the computer is unavailable. The original WIA procedure is specifically a USB route; do not assume every scanner program uses the same network method.

The reviewed original sources do not establish an exact included AirPrint, Mopria or password-held print arrangement. A shared network connection, an administrator password or a confidentiality watermark does not by itself prove those functions. Ordinary fax also needs its own compatible telephone connection.

Configure the duplex guide and paper sources together

The standard input is a 250-sheet cassette plus a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper can use the 300-sheet base arrangement at the specified 80 gsm basis. The extra 520-sheet drawer is optional.

The original service table separately supports automatic print duplex on those sizes with appropriate 60–120 gsm stock. The guide explains that the duplex unit is preset for Letter/LGL or A4 according to country, and instructs the user to adjust its guide when changing size. Match that guide, the tray and the driver rather than changing only the document's page setting.

Envelopes belong in the multipurpose tray and have smaller capacity and stock limits. The guide recommends individual feeding for special media. They should not be counted as a full ordinary-paper stack or run through duplex merely because that output mode is available for plain paper.

Judge performance and condition on the right basis

The declared 33 one-sided Letter pages per minute differs from the 31 A4 figure, duplex image rate and color scanning speed. The 50,000-page maximum duty ceiling is also distinct from the service manual's separate average-volume figures. None is a measured result from this site.

The FD uses the 2,000-page initial cartridge declaration and 2,000- or 5,000-page replacement options, with regional markings to check. Its body dimensions exclude an expansion drawer and access space. Check actual consumables, scanner operation, software and the electrical label before planning around an earlier unit.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The manufacturer declares up to 33 one-sided Letter pages/min, compared with 31 A4. The service table separately gives 16 Letter duplex images/min and 20 black or 6 color scan images/min at 300 dpi for FD. Those figures have different job and resolution conditions. Its 50,000-page duty ceiling is not a monthly recommendation. The service table separately lists 1,000 recommended average pages and 2,500 maximum average pages; a minimum-to-maximum recommended workload interval is not inferred from those different labels.

Paper handling

The base arrangement is a 250-sheet cassette and 50-sheet multipurpose tray, with suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary stock at 80 gsm supported in both. The 520-sheet drawer is optional. The exact service table supports automatic print duplex on those three sizes at 60–120 gsm; adjust the duplex guide to match the chosen Letter/LGL or A4 setting as the original guide instructs. Envelopes belong in the multipurpose tray, not the cassette, with 75–90 gsm stock and their own smaller capacity. Special media may need individual feeding.

Scanning arrangement

FD has a 50-sheet one-sided ADF, not the reversing feeder of FR. Automatic scan duplex and single-pass duplex scanning are unavailable. The feeder accepts suitable 142–216 mm wide and 148–356 mm long originals, including Letter, Legal and A4; capacity is stated at 75 gsm. The glass accepts originals to 216 x 297 mm, including Letter and A4 but not full Legal length. Effective image areas are smaller than physical original dimensions. Feed originals face up or use the glass face down at its registration guide, clearing the feeder for glass priority.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and 10/100 Ethernet are included. The exact model table leaves wireless blank for FD; Wi-Fi from the 573xFW model is not included here. Compatible Windows computer scanning is explicitly documented over USB Local PC and Ethernet Network PC. Install the scanner components, enable scanning in Easy Printer Manager and register the computer destination, entering its configured four-digit password when required. WIA is a USB-specific route. Ordinary analog fax additionally needs its own compatible telephone LINE connection.

Supplies and declared yields

The original SCX-483x service table and exact specification declare a 2,000-page initial cartridge. D205S and D205L replacement declarations are 2,000 and 5,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The larger 10K supply for certain 563x/573x variants is not assigned to FD. Confirm the actual XAA cartridge markings and consumable condition rather than treating an original yield as the amount remaining.

Software and support

The FD configuration has a two-line panel, 128 MB base memory and a 360 MHz processor according to the exact specifications. Promotional introductory text in a manufacturer product-page printout instead describes FR-like Gigabit, memory and panel features; those claims are not assigned to FD. A watermark or network administrator login is not proof of PIN-held printing. Exact AirPrint, Mopria and a complete included protected-print arrangement are not established in these sources.

Electrical edition and setup

The exact FD body is approximately 16.69 x 15.04 x 16.02 inches, excluding an optional expansion drawer and working clearance. The guide gives 14 kg with consumables; a manufacturer product printout gives 14.37 kg without clarifying the same basis, so a single weight is unestablished here. Separate 110–127 V and 220–240 V editions are listed, with frequency/current referred to the actual label. Verify that label, installed software and network scan destination before relying on an earlier unit.
