Xpress SL-C480FW/XAAIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible small office needing occasional color output, computer scanning, prepared one-sided Legal originals and separate analog fax.

The main tradeoff

Two-sided printing needs manual refeeding, ordinary capacity is one 150-sheet cassette, and current host/mobile software requires a compatibility check.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Wi-Fi computer setup print Legal color pages and scan one-sided Legal originals?

Yes with compatible MFP software and an enabled, registered scan destination. The ordinary-paper table supports 150 sheets of 75 gsm Legal, and the feeder’s original range accommodates Legal within capture margins. Analog fax separately needs its compatible telephone line.

Can an Ethernet computer use both glass and feeder when the original size is flexible?

Yes. Network computer scanning and both physical routes are positively documented. The feeder has explicit size limits; the selected glass evidence does not establish a precise size list, so flexible size does not promise full Legal glass coverage.

Will this configuration automatically print both sides without user refeeding?

No. The exact USA datasheet specifies manual duplex, and the guide describes Windows manual operation. Networking does not add an automatic paper-turning mechanism.

Color output with the FW document hardware

The Samsung Xpress C480FW/XAA is an earlier USA color laser multifunction configuration for printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. It combines USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi with a small cassette and a document feeder, making it a possible fit for occasional color documents in a compatible small office.

The FW designation matters. The original USA material places it alongside the print-only C430W, but that neighboring printer does not supply the scanner, feeder or fax hardware. Likewise, the older C460FW's specifications should not be carried across simply because the names look similar.

Allow time for manual two-sided output

The exact datasheet labels printed duplex as manual. The compatible Windows driver guides refeeding; the machine does not turn the sheet automatically. That difference becomes noticeable when a routine involves long reports or many separate two-sided jobs.

A connection described as full duplex concerns network communication, not paper handling. An Eco feature, booklet setting or two-sided option in a generic software chapter also does not override the exact machine's manual duplex specification.

If automatic two-sided output is essential, choose a configuration that explicitly includes that hardware and confirms the intended paper sizes. The C480FW is easier to justify when ordinary one-sided pages dominate and the occasional manual refeed is acceptable.

Use the feeder and glass as separate routes

The USA FW includes a 40-sheet automatic document feeder. Suitable one-sided originals through Legal fit the stated document range, within the scanner's capture margins. Prepare an aligned stack, remove fasteners, avoid unsuitable mixed or curled pages and load originals face up with the guides adjusted.

The glass serves individual originals that should not pass through the feeder. Place the original face down at the top-left registration guide. Empty the feeder first because detected feeder originals take priority. Do not infer full Legal glass coverage from the feeder's longer document range.

The reviewed operating arrangement establishes ordinary one-sided feeder capture. It does not establish automatic capture of both sides of each original. Check that requirement independently, particularly if incoming documents are usually printed on both sides.

Install the scan destination as well as the print queue

Compatible MFP software supports computer scanning through USB or the network. A working print queue alone can leave the scanner workflow incomplete. Enable the Scan to PC setting, register the intended computer destination and confirm where its files will be saved.

The network panel can ask for the destination computer's registered ID and four-digit scan password. That password identifies a scan destination; it is not proof that computer print jobs can be held at the printer for PIN release. WIA scanning is USB-specific in the reviewed guide, while TWAIN can use the local or network connection.

NFC convenience has its own compatible-device, software and Wi-Fi Direct requirements. A tap from any phone is not a universal print or scan guarantee. Verify present-day host software and the intended mobile workflow before relying on the older documentation. Analog fax separately needs its compatible telephone connection.

Count the cassette, output and supplies correctly

The included ordinary-paper supply is a single 150-sheet cassette. The separate 50-sheet figure describes output capacity. Letter, Legal and A4 appear in the ordinary-paper table at the stated 75 gsm basis, with a stack-height limit. Adjust the tray guides and match device and driver paper settings.

Special media can have much lower capacities and may need individual feeding. Do not transfer the plain-paper capacity to heavy or coated stock, or assume every familiar envelope format has an instructed path.

The USA supply list distinguishes initial toner from replacement yields: 700 black and 500 pages per color initially, compared with different replacement declarations. The imaging unit and waste-toner container are separate items. Inspect the actual consumables, electrical label and current software support, and allow working space beyond the roughly 31-pound closed body.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The USA material declares up to 19 black or 4 color pages/min, while the separate scan declaration is up to 19 images/min. The reviewed USA rate table does not explicitly identify Letter, so no exact Letter-rate field is assigned. Scan rate is not print rate, and effective image-processing resolution is not physical optical resolution. The 20,000-page monthly duty ceiling is not a recommended monthly workload; a recommended range is unestablished.

Paper handling

The ordinary-paper table supports Letter, Legal and A4 at up to 150 sheets of 75 gsm stock, subject to the 15.5 mm stack limit. This is a single cassette; 50 sheets refers to output. Adjust the length, width and Letter/A4 lever, and match device and driver size/type. Special stock has smaller capacities and may require one-at-a-time feeding through the same tray. The reviewed supported-media table does not establish an envelope routine. Printed duplex is manual Windows operation, not automatic hardware duplex.

Scanning arrangement

The exact USA FW includes a 40-sheet feeder and a color CIS glass scanner. Suitable feeder originals span 142–216 mm width and 148–356 mm length, accommodating Letter, Legal and A4 within capture margins. Prepare a uniform stack, load face up and adjust guides. The glass is positively documented, but the selected original evidence does not establish its precise document-size list; full Legal glass coverage is not promised. Remove feeder originals before using the face-down glass route because detected feeder pages take priority. Automatic two-sided original capture is unestablished.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact USA arrangement includes USB, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Compatible installed MFP software supports local USB and network computer scanning. Enable Scan to PC in Easy Printer Manager, choose the registered destination and enter its four-digit scan password when requested. TWAIN supports local or network connections; WIA is USB-specific. A scan credential or secure fax reception is not evidence of PIN-release printing.

Supplies and declared yields

The exact USA equipment list declares initial supplies of 700 black and 500 pages per color. Replacement CLT-K404S is declared at 1,500 black pages and C404S/M404S/Y404S at 1,000 each under ISO/IEC 19798. CLT-R406 imaging and CLT-W406 waste toner are separate supplies. Check regional markings and actual condition rather than treating replacement declarations as included or remaining yield.

Software and support

NFC tapping requires compatible NFC mobile hardware, the relevant software and a supported Wi-Fi Direct setup. No present availability of historical Samsung apps or cloud services is promised. The shared guide contains AirPrint and Mopria procedures with exact-certification conditions; the reviewed extracted matrix does not retain reliable model-column marks, so those protocols remain unverified for matching. Current host drivers and scanner components need checking before relying on this earlier unit.

Electrical edition and setup

The original body measures approximately 16 x 14.3 x 13.1 inches and weighs 31 lb with consumables, without accessories. Allow additional access for the protruding/extended tray, scanner lid and maintenance. The USA list’s 36.5 lb shipping figure is not body weight. The guide distinguishes 110–127V and 220–240V editions but sends frequency confirmation to the rating label, so full US mains compatibility remains unverified. Analog fax needs a separately connected compatible telephone line; Ethernet alone does not supply fax service.
