Xpress SL-M2070FW/XAA (SS296H)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible small office needing black output, color computer scanning, occasional one-sided Legal originals and separate analog fax.

The main tradeoff

The feeder does not capture both sides automatically, printed duplex needs user refeeding, and historical mobile apps require a current compatibility check.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Wi-Fi computer arrangement print Legal pages and scan one-sided Legal originals in color?

Yes with compatible installed MFP software, enabled scan activation and a registered computer destination. Legal originals fit the simplex feeder within capture margins; the 150-sheet ordinary-paper tray supports Legal at the stated 80 gsm basis. Ordinary analog fax requires its separate compatible line.

Can a USB computer workflow capture A4 documents using either the glass or feeder?

Yes. The service table establishes the separate glass and feeder limits, both accommodating suitable A4 originals within capture margins. The operating guide documents USB computer scanning with compatible MFP software.

Does the network configuration provide automatic two-sided original capture?

No. The exact feature matrix lists an ADF and leaves DADF and duplex scanning unavailable. A registered computer’s scan password does not change the feeder mechanism.

M2070FW adds document handling to a compact black printer

The Samsung Xpress M2070FW/XAA is an earlier monochrome laser multifunction configuration for printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax. The reviewed SS296H identity is distinct from the related M2070W and from the print-only M2020W shown alongside it in the USA datasheet.

Its main attraction is a small-office combination of connections and document capture. The original operating guide explicitly gives the FW USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, plus NFC and AirPrint. The brief USA interface line omits Ethernet, so the detailed exact-model matrix matters when planning a wired installation.

Neither two-sided operation is automatic

The 40-sheet document feeder captures one side at a time. The original feature matrix leaves automatic duplex original capture unavailable. Two-sided originals therefore require a manual process with checking for missing pages, orientation and order.

The feeder accepts suitable originals through Legal size within its stated document and effective scan limits. Prepare an aligned, uniform stack and load it face up. Letter and A4 also fit the feeder. The glass is a different path, limited to 297 mm length; full Legal capture should not be assumed there.

Printed duplex is separately described as guided manual operation in compatible Windows software. The user must refeed the paper. A network interface described as full duplex concerns communication, not a mechanism that prints both paper sides automatically.

Make the computer scan destination usable

Install compatible MFP software with the scanner components, rather than stopping after an ordinary print queue works. The guide documents USB and network computer scanning, including a TWAIN application and the machine's Scan to PC routine.

For network capture, enable scanning in the management software and register the destination computer. The panel can ask for that computer's ID and configured four-digit password. Keep this distinct from a print-release PIN, an administrator login or a protected fax-reception setting.

WIA scanning is tied to USB in the reviewed instructions, while TWAIN can use the local or network connection. Clear the feeder before using the glass, place the original face down at the registration guide, and inspect the saved image for edge coverage and orientation.

Mobile convenience still has specific requirements

The exact FW supports an AirPrint local-network printing arrangement. NFC use has additional compatible-device, app and Wi-Fi Direct conditions; tapping any phone does not guarantee printing or scanning. Verify the intended present-day software before depending on an earlier mobile workflow.

Some generic advanced chapters describe USB-memory or FTP/SMB functions, while the exact feature matrix leaves those functions unavailable for this configuration. Do not assume that a procedure appearing somewhere in a family guide establishes that feature on every model.

Plan the paper path and refill routine

The ordinary-paper table supports 150 sheets of 80 gsm Letter, Legal or A4 stock. Manual feeding uses that same tray, one sheet at a time; it is not an extra input slot. Adjust the guides and match the source, size and type in both the device and driver.

Suitable envelopes have their own stock and loading restrictions. The guide recommends individual feeding for special media, and the ordinary-paper capacity does not transfer to those jobs. Keep output clear and allow working room beyond the closed body's dimensions.

The manufacturer declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages per minute, compared with 20 A4. Its color scanner does not create color printed output. The 500-page initial toner declaration differs from the 1,000-page replacement MLT-D111S figure, and neither predicts a particular unit's remaining life.

Finally, distinguish the maximum monthly duty ceiling from a recommended workload. Check consumables, host support, electrical rating and the separate compatible telephone connection needed for fax before relying on this earlier configuration for the office's routine.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original model declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages/min or 20 A4. The 17 scan images/min figure in the USA table is a separate capture declaration and must not be used as printed speed. The engine prints black even when capturing a document in color. The 10,000-image maximum monthly duty ceiling is separate from a recommended monthly range, which is not established in the reviewed sources. Manufacturer declarations are not measured performance.

Paper handling

The ordinary-paper table supports Letter, Legal and A4 at up to 150 sheets of 80 gsm stock. Manual feeding is a setting for the same tray and takes one sheet; it is not a second slot adding another sheet to normal input. Set device and driver size, type and source to match. Suitable envelopes use the stated 75–90 gsm types and special-media loading conditions; the guide recommends one at a time for special stock. Printed two-sided output requires compatible Windows guided manual refeeding and is not automatic duplex.

Scanning arrangement

The exact FW has a 40-sheet simplex automatic document feeder and a color CIS glass scanner. The guide rates 40 feeder sheets at 80 gsm; an earlier service specification uses 75 gsm. Suitable originals through 216 x 356 mm fit the feeder, including Letter, Legal and A4 within effective capture margins. The service table separately limits the glass to 216 x 297 mm, accommodating Letter and A4; full Legal belongs in the feeder. The exact guide’s DADF and duplex-scan entries are blank, so no automatic two-sided original capture is assigned. Load feeder originals face up and glass originals face down at the top-left guide.

Computer and mobile connections

The operating guide’s exact FW feature matrix establishes USB, 10/100 Ethernet, Wi-Fi, NFC and AirPrint. The brief USA interface line lists USB and wireless but omits Ethernet; that omission does not override the explicit model matrix and rear/mainboard evidence. Compatible Windows MFP software supports USB and network computer scanning. Network Scan to PC needs enabled scan activation, a registered computer ID and its configured four-digit password when requested. TWAIN supports local or network scanning; WIA is USB-specific. Remove the wired cable when required by the infrastructure Wi-Fi setup routine.

Supplies and declared yields

The reviewed USA configuration declares a 500-page initial toner supply and a 1,000-page MLT-D111S replacement under ISO/IEC 19752. Check exact regional markings, current software availability and actual installed consumable condition. A nominal replacement yield does not establish remaining pages, stock or operating cost.

Software and support

NFC operation requires compatible mobile hardware, the relevant app and the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct settings; it is not a universal phone interface. AirPrint has a separate supported local-network printing arrangement. No current availability of historical Samsung mobile apps or cloud services is promised. Generic advanced chapters mention USB-memory and FTP/SMB routines, but the exact model feature matrix leaves those functions unavailable, so they are not assigned. A scan-destination password, secure fax reception or a Confidential watermark does not establish protected computer print release.

Electrical edition and setup

The body is approximately 16 inches wide and 14.2 inches deep, excluding accessories and extended working paths. The later guide gives 12.15 inches high and 18.67 lb including consumables, while the USA datasheet gives 12.3 inches and 18.9 lb. Those small published edition differences are retained without forcing one exact height or weight into the profile. The shipping carton is larger and heavier. The guide distinguishes 110–127 VAC from 220–240 VAC editions but sends frequency confirmation to the physical rating label, so full US mains compatibility remains unverified. Analog fax needs its separate compatible telephone LINE connection.
