Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible Wi-Fi computer workflow duplex Legal output, scan Legal originals through the feeder and support analog fax?
Yes with installed MFP software, the registered network scan destination and a separate compatible analog fax line. The 110V duplex range includes Legal, the feeder reaches 216 x 356 mm, and the main cassette holds 250 suitable sheets.
Explore this need in the finder →Can an iPhone or iPad print through the supported local network using AirPrint?
Yes for the documented certified model with the network configured and Bonjour/mDNS and IPP enabled. This mobile printing arrangement is separate from desktop scanner setup and does not promise particular mobile duplex or special-media settings.
Explore this need in the finder →Does built-in print duplex establish automatic two-sided Legal original capture?
No. The reviewed original-loading and computer-scanning arrangement establishes a simplex feeder route, without verified automatic capture of both document sides. Legal original size and output duplex do not supply that missing capability.

The Samsung Xpress M2885FW combines monochrome laser printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax with Ethernet, USB and built-in Wi-Fi. A 40-sheet feeder and automatic print duplex make it a useful reference for a compatible small-office document workflow.
Its NFC feature is a setup convenience with conditions, rather than a reason to overlook the basic workflow. Check computer software, original handling, the actual electrical edition and the phone or tablet arrangement before relying on a particular combination of functions.
NFC and AirPrint are different ways into mobile printing
The original NFC routine requires a suitable NFC-capable mobile device, Wi-Fi Direct enabled on both the printer and device, and the compatible Samsung Mobile Print app. The guide also explains that a device cover or metal sticker can interfere with recognition.
Tapping the printer starts a documented connection routine; it does not remove the application and connection requirements. The guide includes mobile print, capture and fax operations with their own steps. Those historical application instructions should not become a promise that every present phone can install or use the same software.
AirPrint is a separate local-network arrangement for the certified model. Bonjour/mDNS and IPP need to be available, with the printer reachable on the network. Ordinary Wi-Fi, a Wi-Fi Direct peer connection and a desktop USB cable are distinct arrangements.
Install computer scanning rather than assuming printing proves it
A compatible Windows MFP setup supports USB and network document routines. USB uses the documented Local PC scanning path. Network capture needs the installed scanner components and an appropriate registered computer destination or compatible network application.
The Network PC routine can request the registered computer ID and password. That password is not PIN-release printing. The guide also distinguishes network TWAIN and WSD from its USB-only WIA routine, so choose software that matches the intended connection.
Ethernet remains a documented option for this exact model even though one shared product sheet omits it from the M2885FW interface row. The exact manufacturer specification and family feature table explicitly confirm the port. Use the actual device and its supported configuration when preparing the queue.
Match the original path to the document
The 40-sheet feeder accepts suitable originals within its size and paper-weight conditions, reaching 216 x 356 mm for longer documents. Load a prepared stack face up, with guides adjusted and clips or staples removed.
For appropriate individual originals, use the glass face down at the upper-left registration mark. Clear the feeder first because it has priority when both routes contain documents. Color capture does not turn this monochrome printer into a color-output machine.
Automatic two-sided output does not establish automatic scanning of both original sides. A Legal feeder range also cannot be assigned to the glass. Verify the precise capture routine when two-sided originals or a particular glass size are essential.
Respect the paper and telephone conditions
The 250-sheet ordinary-paper cassette supports Letter, Legal and A4 at the stated capacity basis. The one-sheet manual path is for separately handled stock, rather than an added unattended reserve. Match the device and driver size and type settings, and follow the envelope construction and loading instructions for special media.
The duplex table separates electrical editions: 110V lists Letter, Legal, US Folio and Oficio, while 220V lists A4. A4 one-sided output therefore does not establish A4 automatic duplex on a 110V unit.
Fax additionally needs the LINE connection and compatible telephone service. The recommended monthly range, maximum duty ceiling and cartridge yields are separate declarations. Check actual toner and drum condition, present software compatibility, working clearances and the electrical label before putting the machine into service.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The original guide declares up to 29 one-sided Letter pages/min or 28 A4 for the M287x/M288x family. The exact model table confirms the Letter declaration. Copy and scanner images/min are separate figures, not duplex-print speed. The documented 250–2,000-page recommended monthly range is separate from the 12,000-page duty ceiling. Manufacturer declarations do not establish measured performance or an appropriate sustained workload at the ceiling.
Paper handling
The ordinary-paper cassette holds 250 sheets at the original 80 gsm basis and lists Letter, Legal and A4. A separate one-sheet manual feeder is an operator-fed special-media path, not extra unattended input. The guide warns against loading that feeder while printing from the cassette. For automatic duplex, the voltage-specific table lists Letter, Legal, US Folio and Oficio for 110V models and A4 for 220V models. The reviewed 110V computer plans therefore include Letter and Legal duplex, without borrowing A4 from the other edition. Match the actual paper size, source and type in the device and driver. Suitable envelopes use the manual feeder in the illustrated orientation with stock, construction, heat and margin limits; open the rear path if the prescribed troubleshooting conditions occur.
Scanning arrangement
The exact family has color CIS scanning, a flatbed and a 40-sheet feeder. The original loading instructions support originals up to 216 x 356 mm through the feeder, covering Letter, Legal and A4 within weight, preparation and margin conditions. Place glass originals face down at the upper-left registration mark; feeder originals go face up. The feeder takes priority when originals occupy both routes. These readings establish the flatbed route, but do not provide a separately verified exact glass-size range, so that route is left size-flexible instead of borrowing Legal from the feeder. Automatic two-sided original capture and single-pass duplex capture are not established. Output duplex and ID-copy manual turning do not prove either.
Computer and mobile connections
The exact M2885FW has USB, 10/100 Ethernet and built-in Wi-Fi. Compatible Windows MFP operation over USB or a local network includes computer scanning after its scanner software and registered destination are configured. Wi-Fi Direct is a separate peer method. NFC is a connection shortcut requiring a suitable NFC-capable device, Wi-Fi Direct enabled at both ends and the compatible Samsung Mobile Print app under the original conditions. It is not an independent Internet printing service. Analog fax additionally requires a compatible LINE connection and telephone service.
Supplies and declared yields
The family uses separate toner and imaging-unit supplies. The exact 2875/2885 rows list MLT-D116S at a declared 1,200 pages, MLT-D116L at 3,000 pages and MLT-R116 at 9,000 pages. The USA sheet distinguishes a 1,200-page starter. Cartridge declarations use ISO/IEC 19752 and do not establish remaining supply life or current running cost. Check exact regional supply markings and the installed toner and drum condition.
Software and support
The reviewed Windows MFP setup requires compatible print and scanner software. USB scanning uses Local PC and supports the documented WIA or TWAIN arrangement. Network scanning uses registered Network PC settings or compatible network TWAIN/WSD software; the guide restricts its WIA routine to USB. A four-digit Network PC scan password identifies a scan destination and is not included PIN-release printing. AirPrint requires a certified model, network access, Bonjour/mDNS and IPP enabled. Mobile printing is recorded separately from desktop scanning and automatic-duplex settings. Historic cloud-service and app references are not promises of current availability.
Electrical edition and setup
The original guide gives a 401 x 362 x 367 mm body without a handset and 11.3 kg including consumables for the M2875/M2885 family, approximately 24.9 lb. Width and height are approximately 15.8 and 14.4 inches. Its 14.2-inch depth and the USA sheet’s 14.3-inch depth differ, so the precise depth is not assigned. Allow space above the glass and feeder and around extended paper and rear output paths. Manufacturer specifications identify separate 110–127 VAC and 220–240 VAC versions at 50/60 Hz. Verify the actual rating label; these are separate editions rather than a universal-voltage promise.
