A useful fit for

A compatible USB or shared-network office routine needing black-and-white output, color document capture and a configured analog fax line.

The main tradeoff

The Legal feeder does not make the glass Legal-sized or prove automatic two-sided scanning; exact Legal tray capacity and actual-unit voltage still need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an Ethernet computer scan Legal originals in color and print Legal automatically on both sides?

Yes, with compatible scanning/printing software on the same network. Legal is supported in the feeder and print-duplex unit; its exact 250-sheet stack capacity is not established. Analog fax has a separate telephone setup.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the Legal feeder substitute for a required Legal flatbed?

No. The document glass is limited to Letter/A4, while Legal is an ADF original size. A requirement for both routes at Legal therefore fails.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does two-sided copying prove automatic single-pass scanning of both original sides?

No. The documented setting makes two-sided output from one-sided originals. No supported automatic reverse-side or single-pass feeder routine is established here.

A monochrome MFP with a separate color-scanning role

The Xerox B215 combines black-and-white laser printing, color computer scanning, copying and analog fax. Its useful arrangement is a compatible USB or shared-network computer workflow, a 40-sheet document feeder and a Letter/A4 glass surface. Xerox's US page says it is no longer sold as new, so treat this as an earlier-model reference.

The 3.5-inch touchscreen helps operate document services, but does not change the printer's monochrome output. Color scanning is a separate capability. The main physical tradeoff is that Legal originals fit the feeder, while the glass is limited to Letter and A4.

Set up the destination before expecting a scan

The guide positively documents scanning to a computer over USB or the same supported network. Configure the scan function and destination first. With the original Scan to PC arrangement, a computer that has not been configured in the required software may not appear on the panel's destination list.

TWAIN, Windows acquisition tools and Mac scanning procedures have their own requirements. The original Easy Printer Manager support covers Mac OS X 10.9 through macOS 10.14; later arrangements use suitable tools such as Printers & Scanners or Image Capture. Check current driver compatibility for the intended computer before reuse.

For ordinary originals, choose the feeder or flatbed source in the scanning application and set the intended color mode. The guide describes color, grayscale and black-and-white files. Its separate scanner rates of up to 20 mono or 6 color Letter/A4 images per minute are not printer output rates.

Legal feeding does not imply Legal glass or automatic reverse capture

The ADF holds up to 40 sheets on the guide's 20-pound, 80 gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit its stated dimensions. Load suitable loose originals face up, align the guides and stay below the fill line. The glass is the alternative for books and fragile originals that fit its smaller supported area.

The copy menu's two-sided setting produces two-sided output from one-sided originals. That is useful paper handling, but it does not establish an automatic two-sided or single-pass scanner. Likewise, choosing Legal as an original size does not enlarge the glass; the guide makes that option available through the feeder.

Keep ordinary duplex away from the rear special-media path

The automatic paper tray holds up to 250 Letter/A4 sheets at the stated paper basis. The loading section expressly says other sizes hold fewer sheets. Legal printing and automatic duplex are supported, but an exact Legal stack quantity remains unknown. Do not borrow the Letter headline for a Legal capacity requirement.

The manual slot accepts one sheet and supports the instructed envelope and special-media routines. Such output can use the rear face-up exit, one sheet at a time. The guide specifically limits that rear route to simplex jobs: close the rear cover for automatic duplex printing. The normal face-down output holds 120 ordinary sheets.

The maker declares up to 31 one-sided Letter pages per minute, or 30 on A4. The US page's monthly-volume summary lists up to 3,000 pages, separate from the brochure's 30,000-page maximum duty ceiling. These figures describe different conditions and should remain separate when planning a workload.

Network printing and telephone fax need different setup

USB connects a computer directly; Ethernet or Wi-Fi places the printer on a suitable shared network. AirPrint and Mopria can use a printer on Ethernet while the mobile device joins that same network wirelessly. Configure discovery and keep the required subnet conditions. Basic mobile printing does not establish every desktop setting.

Analog fax uses the LINE connection and a suitable telephone line. Configure the fax line name, number, country and dialing settings, then choose answer behavior appropriate to a dedicated or shared line. Secure Fax Receive protects incoming faxes; it does not prove PIN release for computer print jobs.

Check the actual unit and separate service items

The US starter declares 1,000 pages, while the guide gives a different starter quantity for 220 V units. Standard and high-capacity US replacement toner declare 1,500 and 3,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; the drum has its own approximate service figure. Confirm the unit's regional label and installed supplies.

The body measures 15.8 inches wide, 15.6 deep and 14.4 high, at 25.24 pounds. Allow room for the feeder, cover, tray and rear exit. Compare a supported newer MFP when present-day software certainty, Legal glass or independently confirmed automatic two-sided scanning is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 31 one-sided black Letter or 30 A4 pages/min. The configuration table separately declares 15 images/min for two-sided Letter/A4; the feature table labels that figure ppm, so it is not substituted for the one-sided rate. Scan rates of 20 mono or 6 color Letter/A4 images/min are separate. The US page’s 3,000-page monthly-volume reference is distinct from the 30,000-page maximum duty ceiling.

Paper handling

Included tray holds up to 250 Letter/A4 sheets on the guide’s 20 lb/80 gsm basis, explicitly fewer of other sizes. Legal printing and automatic duplex are supported, but its exact included stack capacity remains unknown. The manual slot holds one sheet separately and accepts instructed envelopes. Rear face-up output is one sheet and simplex only; close the rear cover for duplex. Normal output holds 120 ordinary sheets.

Scanning arrangement

The 40-sheet ADF accepts Letter, Legal and A4 originals within 148–216 mm widths and 148–356 mm lengths. The glass supports Letter/A4, not Legal. USB or supported shared-network computer scanning can produce color, grayscale or black-and-white files with suitable software. Only the one-sided feeder route is established here. The copy menu’s one-sided-original to two-sided-output setting does not establish automatic reverse-side capture.

Computer and mobile connections

USB Type B computer connection, 10/100 Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi are documented standard routes. Scan to PC works over USB or the same network; TWAIN/WIA and Mac procedures have their own software conditions. Wi-Fi Direct is separately configured and disabled by default. The front flash-drive service is distinct from the rear computer USB port. Analog fax requires a separate telephone connection.

Supplies and declared yields

The US brochure lists a 1,000-page black starter. The guide distinguishes a 1,500-page starter for 220 V devices, so actual electrical editions matter. US standard toner 106R04346 declares 1,500 pages and high-capacity 106R04347 3,000, to ISO/IEC 19752 average standard pages. Drum 101R00664 has a separate approximate 10,000-page declaration depending on job/media conditions. Toner yield is not a measured page cost or current availability claim.

Software and support

Configure Scan to PC and its destination before expecting a computer to appear at the panel. Original Easy Printer Manager support is limited to Mac OS X 10.9–macOS 10.14; later arrangements use compatible scanning tools such as Image Capture. AirPrint/Mopria basic printing requires supported devices and shared network/subnet discovery; an Ethernet printer is expressly permitted. No complete included print-job PIN release workflow is established; Secure Fax Receive is a different function.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US B215 reference; Xerox explicitly says it is no longer sold as new. Body is 15.8 in wide, 15.6 in deep and 14.4 in high, weighing 25.24 lb. Allow scanner cover, document feeder, extended tray and rear-exit access. Fax uses LINE and a suitable analog telephone line, with line name/number, country and dialing settings configured. Separate voltage classes are listed; exact-unit mains compatibility remains unestablished.
