Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Wi-Fi support Legal color feeder scanning, monochrome Legal print duplex, PIN release and fax?
Yes, with compatible computer software and the configured infrastructure network. Legal fits the feeder, tray and automatic print duplex path; Confidential jobs have a documented PIN release. Native fax separately requires its active analog line and setup. Automatic feeder duplex is not established.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require both sides of Legal originals to be scanned in a single pass over USB?
That arrangement is not established. USB computer scanning and Legal feeder size are documented, but an automatic two-sided feeder mechanism is not. Choose a model with explicit single-pass Legal capture when that is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the Ethernet-connected printer also serve basic Mopria phone printing?
Yes, through a suitable shared network with a compatible mobile device and Mopria Print Service. The phone’s controls do not automatically include every desktop scanner, special-media or protected-job setting.
Explore this need in the finder →A small monochrome office MFP with fax
The Xerox B235/DNI brings printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax into a compact monochrome laser. It suits a small workspace that needs a paper feeder and several computer connection choices, alongside ordinary automatic print duplex and a documented PIN-release routine.
Compared with B225, the B235 adds fax, a 2.8-inch color touchscreen and printing or scanning through a USB thumbdrive. The screen and scanner can handle color information, but printed pages remain black and white. Its feeder also should not be assumed to scan both original sides automatically merely because the printer can duplex its output.
Use Legal originals through the feeder
The 50-sheet feeder accepts Letter, A4 and Legal originals, with capacity based on 75 gsm paper and a stated 60–105 gsm range. Align suitable loose originals, place them face up and adjust the guides before capture. Keep damaged sheets and unsuitable media out of the paper path.
The glass is useful for a suitable book page, small document or fragile original. Place the item face down at the marked corner. Its documented length ceiling is 297 mm, or 11.7 inches, so Letter and A4 fit while a full Legal page does not. Legal feeder compatibility does not solve a Legal-glass requirement.
Both monochrome and color scanning are documented. The brochure distinguishes their resolution and image-rate figures rather than giving one speed for every mode. It does not establish an automatic duplex feeder mechanism. If unattended capture of both sides decides the choice, compare a model with that exact scanning capability documented.
Distinguish a computer cable from a thumbdrive
The rear USB Type B connection serves a computer. The US brochure explicitly supports scanning to a USB-connected computer as well as a network-connected one. Install suitable current software and choose the appropriate source and capture settings for that arrangement.
The network guide requires the printer and computer on the same network, updated firmware and an installed device. It describes Windows Fax and Scan and Mac Image Capture, including choosing the Document Feeder. Network-folder shortcuts need their own valid destination settings.
Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi are included. For Wi-Fi setup, the guide requires Ethernet disconnected and Active Adapter set to Auto. AirPrint and Mopria offer basic mobile printing on a suitable shared network; Wi-Fi Direct is a separately joined peer network.
The front USB Type A port serves a memory device, with its own supported file formats and Scan to USB controls. It is not another computer cable connection. Do not remove the drive while the printer is reading or writing it.
Load ordinary duplex paper and special pages differently
The included main tray holds 250 sheets and the manual slot one, based on 20 lb/75 gsm stock. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both sources and the automatic print duplex path. Set the duplex unit to Letter for Letter/Legal or to A4 for A4, and match the size and type settings.
Tray and duplex stock have a 60–105 gsm range; the manual slot has a separate 60–200 gsm range. Feed envelopes, labels and card stock through that slot one-sided. Their compatibility does not make them ordinary duplex media or provide a second full paper stack.
Give Confidential jobs and fax their own setup
From a compatible Windows driver, select Print and Hold, assign a username and choose Confidential with a PIN. At the panel, select Held jobs, the user and Confidential, enter the PIN, select the document and print. Mac AirPrint has a separately documented four-digit PIN Printing option. Other held-job types do not necessarily protect a document with a code.
Fax needs an active analog telephone line connected to LINE and the appropriate setup, including answer and ring settings. A digital telephone system or cloud service is a different arrangement with its own conditions. The presence of Ethernet or Wi-Fi does not itself provide telephone service.
Size the workload and supplies realistically
The US declared print rate is up to 36 one-sided Letter or 34 A4 pages per minute under ISO/IEC 24734. Scanner images, copies and two-sided sheets are separate figures. Recommended print volume is up to 2,500 pages monthly; the 30,000-page duty ceiling is not a sustained workload recommendation.
Starter toner is declared at 700 pages. Replacement toner declarations are 1,200, 3,000 or 6,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752, and the imaging kit is separate. Allow operating access beyond the approximately 16.4-inch width, 14.2-inch depth and 13.9-inch height. The body weighs about 22 pounds. Check actual electrical labeling, current software and telephone compatibility before installation.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The US brochure declares up to 36 one-sided monochrome Letter or 34 A4 pages/min under ISO/IEC 24734, separately from duplex printing and copy speed. Letter scanner rates are 25 monochrome or 8 color images/min; A4 is 23 or 7. Recommended monthly print volume is up to 2,500 without a stated minimum, distinct from 30,000 maximum duty.
Paper handling
Included ordinary sources are a 250-sheet main tray and one-sheet manual slot at 20 lb / 75 gsm. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both and the automatic print duplex path. Set the duplex unit to Letter for Letter/Legal or A4 for A4. Tray and duplex stock is 60–105 gsm; manual stock has a separate 60–200 gsm range. Envelopes, labels and card stock use the manual source one-sided with correct size/type settings. The manual slot is not a second stack.
Scanning arrangement
Both monochrome and color scanning are documented. The 50-sheet ADF at 75 gsm accepts 60–105 gsm originals including Letter, Legal and A4; the glass supports Letter/A4 with a 297 mm / 11.7 in. length ceiling. Brochure scanner maxima are 1,200 x 1,200 dpi monochrome and 600 x 600 color, not one universal route/resolution promise. Automatic feeder duplex and a single-pass mechanism remain unestablished. Native print duplex, color touchscreen and generic two-sided-original advice do not establish them.
Computer and mobile connections
The exact DNI includes USB Type B, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. The US brochure explicitly supports USB- or network-connected computer scanning. Install suitable software for USB capture; the current network guide uses same-network Windows Fax and Scan or Mac Image Capture with source selection. Infrastructure Wi-Fi setup requires Ethernet disconnected and Active Adapter Auto. B235 additionally prints/scans supported files through a USB Type A thumbdrive port, a different route from the computer cable. Direct peer printing is separately configured.
Supplies and declared yields
Supplied starter toner is declared at 700 pages. Compatible replacement declarations are 1,200 pages for 006R04399, 3,000 for 006R04400 or 6,000 for 006R04401 under ISO/IEC 19752, with actual yield affected by image coverage and mode. Imaging kit 013R00691 is a separate approximate 12,000-page service item whose yield depends on jobs and media. No current cost per page is asserted.
Software and support
A compatible Windows driver submits Confidential jobs with username and PIN, followed by Held jobs > user > Confidential > PIN > job > Print at the panel. Mac AirPrint separately documents four-digit PIN Printing. Basic mobile AirPrint/Mopria does not establish every desktop scan or protected-job control. Native analog fax requires an active line at LINE, fax setup and correct answer/ring settings; a digital telephone system or generic cloud service is not an equivalent guaranteed arrangement. Optional workflow services have separate conditions.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US B235/DNI identity is established by the maker’s SKU page. The 2.8-inch color touchscreen does not produce color printed pages. Standard body is 16.4 in wide, 14.2 deep and 13.9 high at 22 lb, distinct from the shop’s 31 lb shipping weight. Allow glass, feeder, tray and supply access beyond body dimensions. Verify the actual electrical label, current driver and intended telephone service.
