A useful fit for

A configured computer workflow needing ordinary Legal feeder capture, automatic two-sided printed output and up to 6,000 recommended monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

B305 does not automatically scan both sides of originals and has no fax; those B315 features are easily confused with the shared family description.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a configured Wi-Fi computer capture ordinary color Legal feeder pages and print two-sided Legal with PIN release, 350 included sheets and a 6,000-page monthly requirement?

Yes with compatible installed print/scan software and the configured network destination. B305’s ordinary feeder accepts Legal, its included inputs and automatic print duplex support Legal, and compatible confidential printing supplies passcode release. Use permitted stock and remember that powering off deletes held confidential jobs. The recommended monthly maximum is 6,000, distinct from duty.

Can an Apple device use AirPrint when the printer itself uses Ethernet, with A4 paper and 350 included sheets?

Yes on the supported shared network and subnet, with an AirPrint-capable device and application. The printer’s Ethernet connection can serve that network routine; built-in radio use is not required for the printer itself. The recorded native-mobile plan does not assume phone-specific duplex, PIN release or desktop scanning.

Can B305 automatically scan both sides of a Legal stack through a single-pass feeder?

No. The exact table says B305 has an ordinary ADF without duplex scanning, while B315 has the single-pass DADF. B305’s automatic duplex is for printed output. A shared marketing paragraph or generic two-sided feeder instruction cannot add the different hardware.

B305/DNI fits ordinary capture and two-sided office printing

The Xerox B305/DNI is a monochrome laser multifunction printer with color scanning, included wireless networking and automatic print duplex. It suits a configured office computer workflow that captures ordinary loose documents and prints double-sided output, with 350 ordinary sheets in the base configuration.

Its distinction from B315 is decisive. The exact original tables give B305 an ordinary 50-sheet feeder without duplex scanning and no fax. B315 adds the single-pass duplex document feeder and fax. A broad family paragraph mentioning two-sided scanning should not override those model columns.

Legal originals need the feeder rather than the glass

The ordinary feeder handles documents through Legal within its documented size and weight limits. The glass is 216 x 297 mm, supporting Letter and A4. Its shorter length means a Legal feeder specification cannot be treated as full Legal glass capture.

For network computer scanning, the current original guide requires the printer to be added to the computer and the devices to share a network. Windows Fax and Scan selects the actual source; macOS Image Capture or the printer's scanner window selects the destination, document size and feeder setting before capture.

The detailed specification also lists USB-connected computer capture with compatible installed scanner software. That is separate from the front flash-drive port, and the network procedure should not be presented as a USB installation guide. Confirm the actual driver and destination for the chosen arrangement.

Choose Ethernet or infrastructure Wi-Fi

USB Type B, Ethernet and built-in Wi-Fi are included. The March 2026 guide says plugging in Ethernet automatically switches off the Wi-Fi connection. Plan around the interface actually in use instead of expecting simultaneous wired and wireless network operation.

AirPrint and Mopria provide native mobile printing with their supported devices, applications and reachable network. AirPrint specifically requires the same network and subnet. A printer connected by Ethernet can participate when the mobile device reaches that shared network through its wireless access point.

Wi-Fi Direct is another setup, with its own enabled name, password or approved connection request. Its connection PIN is different from a confidential print-job passcode. Desktop capture, phone-specific duplex settings and secure release should not be assumed to accompany every direct or mobile job.

The base paper capacity is 350 sheets

A 250-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder provide 350 ordinary sheets on the stated 20 lb/75 gsm basis. Both list Letter, Legal and A4. The optional 550-sheet tray creates the advertised 900-sheet expansion total; it is an additional configuration.

The original guide confirms Letter, Legal and A4 for automatic print duplex, with the documented 60–90 gsm stock range. The feeder's broader simplex weight allowance does not make thick stock suitable for automatic two-sided output.

For a suitable envelope, use the multipurpose feeder, printable side up with the flap down on the left. Adjust the guide and match the panel and application paper settings. This normal special-media routine is separate from ordinary duplex printing.

Use confidential printing and workload figures with their conditions

A compatible print driver can send a passcode-held job for release at the printer. Configure the relevant expiration and failed-PIN settings. The guide says switching the printer off deletes confidential jobs held in memory, so this is not an assumption of permanent document storage.

Xerox rates one-sided Letter printing at up to 40 pages per minute, separately from its lower duplex rate and scanner image rates. Its recommended average monthly maximum is 6,000 pages, distinct from the 80,000-page duty ceiling.

The included B305 starter toner is rated for 1,500 pages, while higher replacement yields and the separate imaging kit have their own conditions. No current running cost follows from those declarations. B305 is a clear fit for ordinary color capture and monochrome duplex output; choose another confirmed arrangement for automatic two-sided originals or fax.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The detailed US table rates B305 at up to 40 one-sided Letter pages/min and 38 A4 pages/min, with 17 two-sided pages/min for Letter or A4. The stated print-speed basis is ISO/IEC 24734. Scanner rates are different: up to 48 monochrome or 21 color Letter images/min for ordinary one-sided feeder capture. The 2400 Image Quality label is distinct from the specified 600 x 600 dpi print resolution. Recommended average monthly printing is up to 6,000 pages, separate from the 80,000-page maximum monthly duty, which the maker says is not a sustained regular workload.

Paper handling

Included input is a 250-sheet main drawer plus 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, totaling 350 ordinary sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Both inputs list Letter, Legal and A4; the exact guide table supports those sizes for automatic two-sided printing. Duplex stock is limited to the documented 60–90 gsm types and sizes; the feeder’s broader 217 gsm simplex limit does not apply to duplex. The optional 550-sheet tray makes 900 and is excluded from standard input. For a suitable envelope, use the multipurpose feeder with printable side up and flap down on the left, adjust the guides and match paper size/type at the panel and compatible application. Output capacity is separate from input; an inconsistent shop-page output count is not used to change the included input.

Scanning arrangement

B305 has a color flatbed scanner and standard 50-original ordinary ADF on the 20 lb/75 gsm basis. The actual detailed table and brochure say no duplex scanning for B305; B315 has the single-pass DADF. The B305 feeder supports originals from A6 SEF through Legal, within its 60–90 gsm range. The glass is 216 x 297 mm/8.5 x 11.7 inches, covering Letter and A4 rather than Legal. The confirmed network computer procedure adds the printer, updates applicable firmware and uses Windows Fax and Scan or macOS Image Capture/Printers & Scanners with the selected source, document size and destination. The specification also positively lists USB-connected computer capture through compatible installed TWAIN/WIA/ICA software; the network-only instructions are not presented as a USB procedure.

Computer and mobile connections

B305/DNI includes USB Type B computer connectivity, 10/100Base-TX Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n infrastructure Wi-Fi. A front Type A memory-device port is a different routine. The current original guide says connecting Ethernet automatically switches off the Wi-Fi connection; choose the actual network route rather than promising both at once. Compatible installed computer software can print and capture over the supported selected connection. Wi-Fi Direct has its own enabled network name/password or approved connection request; the reviewed direct-mobile routine is entered separately from network computer scanning. AirPrint requires a supported Apple device on the same network/subnet; Mopria requires its compatible enabled Android service and a reachable printer.

Supplies and declared yields

The detailed sheet identifies a 1,500-page pre-installed B305 starter toner, distinct from the 2,500-page B310/B315 starters. North America/Europe replacement black toners are 006R04376 at 3,000 pages, 006R04377 at 8,000 and 006R04378 at 20,000; other-region part numbers differ. The 40,000-page approximate imaging kit is 013R00690. The sheet actually cites ISO/IEC 19798 for toner declarations, with coverage/print-mode conditions; this record retains the printed basis rather than silently substituting another standard. These are dated maker yields, not a current price or remaining-life promise. Optional Workflow Central services are not assumed to be included.

Software and support

The original confidential-print instructions send a held job with a passcode through a compatible print driver and release it at the printer. The Macintosh instructions explicitly include four-digit PIN printing and a Held jobs/Confidential release path. Configure expiration and failed-PIN policies as needed; held confidential jobs in memory are deleted when the printer is switched off. An eight-digit WPS or Wi-Fi Direct connection PIN is not the held-job PIN. Native phone printing is supported, but phone-specific duplex, passcode release and desktop scanner capture are not combined into an unverified mobile plan. B305 has no included fax; the shared guide’s telephone ports, two-sided ADF examples and B315 features do not change its exact hardware.

Electrical edition and setup

The detailed sheet identifies the unpackaged B305 body as 16.2 x 14.4 x 13.3 inches, 28.2 lb/12.8 kg. Its carton is separately 16.5 x 18.3 x 15.1 inches and 32.4 lb. Allow the specified working and ventilation access beyond the body, including front/top 12 inches in the detailed sheet, as well as the actual paper and cover movements. The North American edition is 100–127 VAC at nominal 47–63 Hz, distinct from the European 220–240 VAC version. The current official US store explicitly identifies B305/DNI. This is a current manufacturer reference checked on the stated date, without a stock, price or future software-support guarantee.
