The Xerox C315 combines color laser printing, copying, computer scanning and analog fax with a 50-sheet reversing automatic document feeder. It suits a compatible office that needs both sides of loose originals captured automatically and ordinary automatic print duplex, while accepting a relatively small standard paper supply.
The feeder's method matters. It reverses an original to read the other side, rather than reading both faces in one pass. Xerox's US page identifies C315 as no longer sold as new, so assess it as an earlier model and check the actual unit, drivers and installed options before reuse.
Choose the feeder or glass by the original
The RADF accepts Letter, A4 and Legal originals, with a stated 52–120 gsm duplex-original range. Its 50-sheet capacity is based on 75 gsm stock and varies with paper weight. Align suitable sheets, place them face up and adjust the guides before selecting the required sides and capture settings.
The glass supports Letter and A4 up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches. It is the route for a suitable book page, small item or fragile original that should not travel through the feeder. A full Legal page exceeds that glass even though Legal fits the RADF.
Both color and monochrome capture are documented at up to 600 by 600 dpi. Their image rates differ, and duplex capture is a separate figure from simplex. If single-pass capture is essential, compare a model that explicitly uses that mechanism instead of treating every automatic duplex feeder as equivalent.
Configure a computer destination for the actual connection
The manufacturer explicitly supports USB- and network-connected computer scanning, with TWAIN, WIA and ICA compatibility. The rear USB Type B port connects to a computer. Install suitable current software and select the scanner source, sides, size and output color for the task.
For network use, install the device and configure the intended destination. The guide describes selecting a Scan to Computer profile at the panel. FTP or shared-folder destinations have their own address, access and shortcut setup rather than appearing simply because a network cable is connected.
Gigabit Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi are documented connections. Basic AirPrint and Mopria can serve suitable mobile devices through a shared network, including Ethernet at the printer. Wi-Fi Direct is a separate peer printing arrangement. Verify advanced capture and protected-job controls independently in the chosen application.
Keep the paper stack and optional expansion distinct
The included 250-sheet tray and single-sheet manual source total 251 ordinary sheet positions at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter, A4 and Legal fit both sources and the automatic print duplex path. A manual slot gives one occasional alternative page, not another full paper stack.
Ordinary plain stock has a documented 75–90.3 gsm range. Heavier media have separate size, type and duplex restrictions. Set the actual paper format and type at the printer and in the driver before printing.
Supported envelopes use the main tray or manual source one-sided. In the manual feeder, the guide places the flap up against the right side of the paper guide. Do not force the envelope into the feed. The optional 550 + 100-sheet duo tray raises maximum ordinary input to 901 only when installed.
Protect jobs and configure fax separately
A compatible Windows driver provides Secure Print with a passcode. The guide separately documents Mac AirPrint PIN Printing with a four-digit code and release through Held jobs, the computer name, Confidential, the PIN and the selected job at the panel. Saved and sample jobs are different routines.
Native fax needs an active analog telephone line connected to LINE and the appropriate settings, including auto-answer and the number of rings. Ethernet or Wi-Fi does not provide that telephone service. Digital systems, adapters and optional workflow services need their own applicable setup.
Plan workload, consumables and access
The US print declaration is up to 35 one-sided Letter or 33 A4 pages per minute in color or monochrome under ISO/IEC 24734. Duplex printing and scanner image rates are separate. Recommended monthly print volume is up to 6,000 pages, distinct from the 80,000-page maximum duty ceiling.
Family starter declarations are 1,500 black pages and 1,000 per color under ISO/IEC 19798. Replacement capacities and regional cartridge terms differ; imaging kits and the waste bottle are separate service items. Confirm the actual package and supply.
The standard body is approximately 17.4 inches wide, 23.1 deep and 18.2 high at 60 pounds. Allow additional glass, feeder, cover and tray access. Check actual electrical labeling and current software, and choose a larger glass or greater included input when either requirement decides the installation.

Family box declarations are black 1,500 and each CMY 1,000 average standard pages under ISO/IEC 19798; confirm the actual package. North American standard replacement declarations are black 3,000 / CMY 2,000, with high black 8,000 / CMY 5,500. Confirm regional cartridge identity and the exact Use & Return or Return Optional terms. Imaging kits and the waste bottle are separate; current and older waste-bottle life references differ, so no fixed service interval is promised. No current cost per page or compulsory subscription is inferred.
Software and support
Windows Secure Print takes a passcode in compatible driver job settings. The guide separately gives complete Mac AirPrint PIN Printing with four digits and release through Held jobs > computer > Confidential > PIN > job > Print. Other saved/sample jobs are different.
