Phaser 3500/DNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible computer users who can verify the older driver, included duplex unit and suitable 75–90 gsm duplex paper.

The main tradeoff

Xerox lists the family as end of support; native mobile printing, passcode release and a recommended monthly range remain unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet automatically duplex ordinary Legal monochrome pages with 600 included sheets?

Yes. DN includes duplex and the 100-sheet MPT plus 500-sheet main drawer. Legal is positively supported, with automatic duplex limited to 75–90 gsm paper and the appropriate driver binding settings.

Can USB provide a declared 35 ppm one-sided Letter rate and an occasional separate envelope routine?

Yes. The original Letter figure is 35 pages/min, separately from duplex. Suitable envelopes use MPT only, at most 10, face up with the top to the left, with matching size/type and driver source settings. This is one-sided occasional work.

Does its 100,000-page maximum duty establish a recommended 5,000-page monthly workload?

No. The read sources establish the maximum duty but no ordinary recommended monthly range. A monthly recommendation requirement remains unverified and cannot be satisfied by that larger maximum.

A wired duplex printer with important age limits

The Xerox Phaser 3500DN is an earlier monochrome laser printer with USB, Ethernet and an included automatic duplex unit. Its standard 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 500-sheet main drawer provide 600 nominal ordinary sheets. It is most relevant to someone checking an existing unit or a precisely identified earlier configuration.

Xerox explicitly lists the family as end of support. Verify the actual operating system, driver and machine condition before relying on it for daily work. Its documented computer-printing functions do not add scanning, copying or fax, and a reference to printing scanned image files is not a built-in scanner.

The duplex paper range is narrower than the feed range

DN includes automatic two-sided printing; the B and N variants require an optional duplex unit. The original US package describes the DN duplex unit and installation instructions as included, so inspect that hardware rather than assuming every similarly labeled used machine is complete.

Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in the normal included trays. The multipurpose source accepts 60–176 gsm media and the main drawer 60–105 gsm, but automatic duplex is limited to 75–90 gsm paper in Letter, Legal, US Folio or A4. A stock that can feed once is not automatically suitable for the return path.

Select the actual paper size and type, then choose the correct long-edge or short-edge binding in a compatible driver. The original instructions distinguish an installed duplex option on B/N from DN's included arrangement. Keep the driver configuration consistent with the physical machine.

The 600-sheet total is nominal ordinary-paper capacity; a precise stock basis for that full count is unestablished. The additional 500-sheet feeder is optional. The 1,100-sheet expanded maximum therefore does not describe a standard DN, even when a family photograph shows the extra drawer.

Envelopes use a separate multipurpose-feed routine

The guide restricts envelopes to Tray 1, with a maximum of ten at a time and printing on the front only. It explicitly says the printer is not intended for high-capacity production envelope printing. Use suitable flat paper envelopes made for laser printers, avoiding padding, windows and metal clasps.

Load envelopes face up with their top toward the left when viewed from the front of the tray. Set Tray 1 Size to the actual envelope format and Tray 1 Type to Envelope, then select Tray 1 as the driver source. Print one envelope to confirm orientation before sending the remaining job. The ordinary-sheet capacity and automatic duplex setting do not apply to that envelope stack.

Direct USB and configured Ethernet are the supported routes

USB 2.0 directly connects a compatible computer. The DN also has 10/100Base-TX Ethernet and a bidirectional parallel interface. Ethernet requires the appropriate network hardware and addresses; the embedded CentreWare Internet Services interface provides printer management and status.

Native AirPrint, Mopria and standard built-in Wi-Fi remain unestablished here. Network connectivity alone does not prove a modern phone-printing protocol. Original Windows and Mac instructions also need to be checked against the actual system now in use.

The documented controller has 32 MB RAM and 4 MB flash, with expansion to 288 MB RAM. PostScript Level 3 and PCL emulations are listed. Flash storage for fonts and forms does not establish passcode-held Secure Print; that exact function remains unverified.

Separate maker speed from sustainable workload

The original English guide and the read brochures declare up to 35 one-sided Letter or 33 A4 pages per minute. An earlier preserved brochure lead says 32 A4, an edition difference retained without changing the positive 35 Letter figure. No automatic-duplex speed is established in this assessment.

The 100,000-image or page monthly duty figure is a maximum. A recommended ordinary monthly range remains unestablished, so the duty figure cannot justify a specific sustained workload. These are manufacturer declarations, with no claim of measured output or reliability testing.

Verify supplies and the actual US machine

Replacement 106R01148 is declared at 6,000 pages and high-capacity 106R01149 at 12,000 under ISO/IEC 19752 in the later brochures. Original package information lists the standard cartridge, but cannot establish a used unit's remaining toner or contents. Even the USB cable differs between package and user-guide statements.

The exact US contract entry identifies 3500/DN as 110 V. Generic brochure and guide body figures disagree on depth and height without resolving the installed duplex basis. Measure the actual unit and leave additional loading, cover, output, service and ventilation room before choosing its location.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original English guide and 2005/2007 brochures declare up to 35 one-sided Letter or 33 A4 pages/min. The paid earlier 35XBR-011 indexed lead says 32 A4; that edition difference is retained and does not alter the positive 35 Letter figure. No duplex speed is established here. The 100,000-image/page maximum monthly duty is not a recommended sustained volume; no recommended monthly range is established.

Paper handling

DN includes a 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 and 500-sheet main Tray 2, nominal 600 ordinary sheets. Both positively support Letter, Legal and A4; the full nominal-count stock basis is unestablished. MPT supports 60–176 gsm, main tray 60–105 gsm, but automatic duplex only 75–90 gsm in Letter, Legal, US Folio or A4. The additional 500-sheet feeder is optional, so 1,100 is expanded input. Suitable paper envelopes use MPT only, at most 10, front side only; load face up with top to the left, set Tray 1 Size and Type Envelope, select Tray 1 in the driver and verify orientation with one envelope. No 600-envelope or envelope-duplex claim.

Scanning arrangement

A monochrome laser printer for computer printing, without scanning, copying, fax, glass or an original-document feeder. Scanned-image file handling in marketing prose refers to printable files, not built-in scanning hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact US DN includes USB 2.0 direct compatible computer printing, 10/100Base-TX Ethernet and bidirectional parallel. Ethernet needs appropriate cabling, network addressing and a supported driver; CentreWare Internet Services manages status and settings. Standard built-in Wi-Fi, native AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished. Driver availability for a present operating system requires verification, especially because Xerox explicitly lists the family as end of support.

Supplies and declared yields

US replacement standard cartridge 106R01148 is declared at 6,000 pages and high-capacity 106R01149 at 12,000 under ISO/IEC 19752 in the later original brochures. The 2005 original product guide separately describes those capacities at 5% coverage and lists the standard cartridge in the supplied package. DN adds a duplex unit and installation instructions. That package also lists USB cable while the user guide says obtain one separately; check actual contents. No current price, stock, measured yield or remaining-life promise.

Software and support

Standard memory is 32 MB RAM plus 4 MB flash for fonts/forms, with a maximum of 288 MB RAM documented. PostScript Level 3, PCL 6 and PCL 5e are listed; 1200 dpi Image Quality is a quality mode, not an asserted physical 1200 x 1200 dot specification. Passcode-held Secure Print is unestablished for this exact configuration; general web management, flash memory or a search hit about another model does not establish it.

Electrical edition and setup

The original Xerox US contract table explicitly identifies 3500/DN as 110 V, and the original product guide distinguishes it from 3500V/DN at 220 V. Whole installed DN body dimensions/weight remain unestablished: brochure generic figures are 396 x 472 x 353 mm and 17 kg, whereas the guide gives 396 x 453 x 348 mm and 17 kg without resolving included-duplex basis. Do not invent the difference or use carton dimensions. Inspect actual label, installed duplex, trays, body and condition with extra service and ventilation clearance.
