Phaser 3635MFP/XIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A wired workgroup using configured network scan destinations, passcode-held print jobs and analog fax.

The main tradeoff

USB memory scanning is distinct from a USB computer scanner; native mobile printing and a single-pass mechanism are unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet support monochrome Letter duplex printing, color scans, copies, fax and passcode release with 550 included sheets?

Yes with compatible computer drivers, configured scan templates/repositories and a separately configured analog telephone line. Letter duplex is explicitly rated, the glass and feeder support Letter, and Secure Print is included. X includes the embedded fax function.

Can the configured network scan route automatically capture both sides of Legal originals?

Yes. The exact US DADF table accepts Legal and the guide provides two-sided network scanning. Its physical method is not established as reversing or single-pass, so it qualifies for ordinary duplex scanning only. Legal on the glass is not confirmed.

Does the front USB-memory scan function establish scanning directly to a USB-connected computer?

No such computer route is established by the reviewed instructions. The portable USB storage function saves files to a memory device, while computer-oriented scanning is documented through the configured network template and repository arrangement.

X adds fax and an offline convenience stapler

The Xerox Phaser 3635MFP/X is a monochrome laser multifunction model for a wired document workflow. It combines automatic two-sided printing, color scanning, copying and configured analog fax. The X configuration also includes a small convenience stapler, used separately after printing.

Its strongest fit is a workgroup that can maintain network scan destinations and wants passcode-held print jobs. The deciding limitation is connection scope: scanning to a USB memory device does not establish a scanner path to a USB-connected computer. Native mobile protocols and a single-pass feeder mechanism are also unestablished here.

Xerox's current shop identifies the family as discontinued. Treat this as an earlier-model reference and verify the exact unit, compatible software, consumables and condition before planning around it.

Keep the included paper count separate from the options

The main drawer holds 500 ordinary sheets and the bypass 50, giving 550 at the original US 20 lb, 75 gsm basis. Both paths support Letter, Legal and A4. An additional 500-sheet drawer and a stand are separate options.

Automatic two-sided output is included, and the exact rate table positively confirms Letter and A4. Legal prints normally, but the reviewed sources do not establish its precise automatic-duplex range. Check that exact routine rather than assuming every printable size can turn automatically.

Load a consistent paper size and type, adjust the guides and confirm the panel settings. Match the source and media in a compatible driver. The wider one-sided media range should not be treated as an unlimited heavy-paper duplex specification.

A network scan begins with the destination

Network scanning uses a template. That template identifies a configured repository, meaning the directory or filing location that receives the file, along with image and file settings. The administrator needs to establish the destination and appropriate access before the walk-up scan can succeed.

At the panel, open Services Home, choose Network Scanning and select the template for the required destination. Set the original type, output color and sides before starting. Changes made at the machine are temporary; permanent template changes use the utility that created it.

Supported network protocols include SMB and FTP among the listed arrangements. Confirm the actual server and software compatibility. A working print queue alone does not configure scan storage, credentials or file handling.

Use the feeder for longer and two-sided originals

The duplex document feeder supports Letter, Legal and A4. Its original US declaration is 60 sheets at 75 gsm. An older guide gives approximately 50 at 80 gsm, so the paper basis matters. Load suitable loose originals face up and adjust the guides without exceeding the fill mark.

The network scan menu offers one-sided, two-sided and rotate-side-two choices. That establishes automatic capture of both original sides, but the reviewed material does not establish whether it reverses a sheet or reads both sides in one pass.

The glass is confirmed for Letter and A4 within its stated scan area. Place individual originals face down at the registration arrow. A Legal-capable feeder does not make the glass Legal-sized. Color files are supported, while printed pages remain black and white.

Choose Secure Print before sending the document

In a compatible computer driver's Paper/Output controls, select Secure Print as the job type. Its dialog stores the passcode used to release the job at the control panel. The standard configuration includes the hard drive and this print function.

Normal Print submits the job for ordinary output. Sample Set prints a sample and holds the remaining copies, which is a different purpose from confidential code release. Confirm the actual driver interface, code policy and job retention behavior rather than assuming a universal fixed code length.

USB computer printing, portable USB-memory file handling and Ethernet network scanning are distinct routes. An optional workflow or mobile software name in an old compatibility list is not proof of an included current AirPrint or Mopria arrangement.

Handle fax, envelopes and stapling as their own routines

X includes embedded one-line fax; connect and configure the required analog telephone line. Its network-server fax option is a separate arrangement. The Ethernet cable does not supply the analog telephone connection.

Suitable envelopes use the bypass, short edge first with flaps up. The older guide permits up to five below the fill line. Match size and type in the panel and driver. The included stapler accepts a small set at its stated 20-sheet limit, separately from the printer's output path.

The maker declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute and 33 A4, with separate two-sided rates. Its 75,000-page duty figure is not a confirmed ordinary monthly recommendation. Use the exact US cartridge identity and its stated yield conditions, and allow working space around the substantial body and open trays.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original US table declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages/min and 33 A4, separately 18 automatic two-sided pages/min for either size. Scan input rates of 35 monochrome Letter images/min or 24 color at 300 dpi are different figures. The 75,000 maximum duty is not an established recommended ordinary monthly workload. Recommended monthly minimum and maximum remain unknown; no measured-performance or sustained-duty promise.

Paper handling

Included ordinary-paper capacity is main drawer 500 plus bypass 50, totaling 550 at the original US 20 lb, 75 gsm basis. Both positively support Letter, Legal and A4. The extra 500-sheet drawer and stand are optional. Automatic print duplex is included; Letter and A4 are positively confirmed in the exact two-sided rate table. The reviewed material does not establish a paper-specific automatic duplex range for Legal, so it is not included in that matching subset. Main one-sided media is 60–105 gsm and bypass 60–163 gsm; do not extend them to every duplex or special-media routine. Suitable envelopes use the bypass, short edge first with flaps up; adjust guides, set size/type/color and confirm. The older guide permits up to five envelopes below the fill line. No envelope duplex claim.

Scanning arrangement

Included automatic two-sided feeder scanning and color scans are positively supported. The exact US sheet declares 60 originals at its 75 gsm basis, while the older guide states approximately 50 at 80 gsm; these are different source conditions. A separate generic copy paragraph says 100 and is not used. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported by the DADF; glass support is limited here to Letter/A4 within the stated 219 x 303 mm scan area. Automatic network scanning offers one-sided, two-sided and rotate-side-two choices. The physical reversing versus single-pass method is unestablished, so the duplex route is explicitly unspecified and cannot satisfy a single-pass requirement. The color touchscreen and scanner do not make color printed pages.

Computer and mobile connections

Included 10/100 Ethernet and USB 2.0 printing. Network scanning uses a selected template and reachable configured repository, with SMB/FTP/HTTP/HTTPS among the stated protocols. Configure destinations and permissions before scanning; template settings identify the destination, image quality and file handling. At the panel select Services Home, Network Scanning and the appropriate template, then output color and sides. Permanent template changes belong in the creating utility; panel changes are temporary. USB memory scanning is a portable storage workflow, not proof of scanning directly to a USB-connected computer. That computer scan route, built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and native mobile protocols remain unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

Original box contents declare a 5,000-print cartridge. The US sheet lists standard 108R00793 at approximately 5,000 and high 108R00795 at approximately 10,000. Its ISO/IEC 19752 footnote is attached to the high cartridge; the standard footnote separately describes job length, media size and orientation effects, so the two declarations are not assigned one invented common basis. Staple cartridge 108R00823 belongs to the X convenience stapler. Remaining supplied-cartridge life in a used unit and current price per page are unestablished.

Software and support

Secure Print and an 80 GB hard drive are included. In a compatible computer driver, Paper/Output, choose Secure Print as the job type and save the required passcode in its dialog. The job waits for the code at the control panel. Normal Print and Sample Set have different release behavior. Fixed code length, retention after power interruption and present operating-system compatibility remain unestablished. Optional network accounting and server-fax enablement are separate systems. Optional workflow/mobile software names do not establish an included current AirPrint or Mopria path.

Electrical edition and setup

The original Mississippi US configuration row explicitly identifies 3635MFP/X with 110 V, network print/copy/scan, fax and convenience stapler. General original specifications list distinct 110–127 V and 220–240 V editions; verify the unit rating label. X includes embedded one-line analog fax and LAN fax, while network-server fax enablement is optional. Analog fax requires its configured phone line and is not supplied by Ethernet. The 20-sheet single-position convenience stapler is offline, separate from an automatic finishing path. Product body is 18.6 x 18.8 x 21.4 inches and 48.6 lb; package and added drawer/stand figures differ. Allow open glass, loading, cable, ventilation and cover access. The manufacturer shop explicitly identifies the family as discontinued.
