Phaser 6120NIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Modest computer printing that needs occasional color, Legal paper and instructed envelope handling without assuming installed expansion hardware.

The main tradeoff

Color is rated at 5 Letter pages/min, automatic duplex and secure printing require options, and Legal color artwork has a restricted image area.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can base 6120N print color Letter pages from a USB computer with 200 sheets included and a declared rate of at least 5 pages/min?

Yes with a compatible computer driver. The exact US configuration includes USB and a 200-sheet multipurpose tray, and the original speed table explicitly gives 5 one-sided color Letter pages/min. This is a maker rating rather than a measured speed or a monthly-workload recommendation.

Does the base Ethernet model automatically print both sides of Legal without any extra hardware?

No. Automatic duplex is an optional kit, which also supplies additional memory and must be installed and enabled. Legal fits the base ordinary-paper path, but simplex support cannot provide the missing output-duplex unit. The optional 500-sheet tray is another separate addition and accepts Letter/A4, not Legal.

Can the base configuration hold confidential computer print jobs for PIN release?

No included base arrangement is established. The exact table ties Secure Print to the optional hard drive. An Ethernet port, printer password or historical software feature list cannot substitute for that storage requirement. Confirm a suitably equipped configuration if held printing is essential.

A color printer whose base configuration needs to stay visible

The Xerox Phaser 6120N is an earlier print-only color laser model with USB, Ethernet and a 200-sheet multipurpose tray as standard. Its appeal is a documented small-office paper range and occasional color output. The deciding limitation is that several useful expansions are separate options.

Automatic duplex requires an added kit. The 500-sheet lower feeder and the hard drive used for Secure Print are separate again. An existing machine may have some of them installed, but the base 6120N name does not prove that it does.

Expect a different pace for color

Xerox's North American expectation document explicitly rates one-sided Letter or A4 printing at up to 5 color pages per minute and 20 monochrome. Legal is slower, with separate figures of 2.2 color and 10 monochrome pages per minute. Do not apply the black-and-white headline to a full-color packet.

The optional duplex rates are another set of declarations, measured in printed sides per minute. They cannot describe a base machine without its duplex hardware. The 2400 Enhanced setting is also an image-quality mode name, rather than a measured result or an unqualified physical-resolution claim.

The brochure lists a 35,000-page monthly maximum duty. More practically, Xerox's expectation document describes a light-duty machine and cautions against very long continuous jobs. There is no established recommended monthly ceiling here, so that maximum should not become a routine workload promise.

Legal paper support has an image-area qualification

The standard tray accepts ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. Its 200-sheet rating uses specified ordinary-paper stock, and actual loading still follows the fill line. The optional lower feeder accepts Letter and A4 only. Adding its capacity to a Legal job would incorrectly promise paper that the lower tray cannot hold.

Legal color output has a restricted lower image area in the original material. The expectation sheet and user guide give different lower-margin figures, but both rule out treating the whole Legal sheet as printable artwork. Check the actual driver layout before relying on a long color form or footer near the edge.

With the optional duplex unit, the guide limits automatic two-sided work to supported plain paper and requires that the hardware be physically installed and enabled in the driver. Envelopes, labels, transparencies and glossy stock do not inherit that duplex support.

Envelope printing requires a change back afterward

The envelope routine is more involved than simply selecting another paper size. Remove other media from Tray 1, use suitable envelopes and follow the flap-down loading instructions. Long-edge flaps face the left side of the printer. The guide permits up to ten at a time.

It also instructs the user to raise both green fuser separator levers for envelope work. After finishing, lower them before returning to ordinary cut sheets. Xerox's expectation document explains that leaving them in the envelope position can prevent ordinary toner from fusing correctly. This reversible setup step is central to the routine.

Check storage, software and supplies separately

USB and 10/100 Ethernet provide documented computer-print arrangements. A historical parallel interface is also listed. None establishes native AirPrint, Mopria or an internal wireless radio, and the old driver list does not guarantee a current operating-system installation.

Secure Print and several saved-job functions depend on the optional hard drive. Browser management and a network connection are different features. The original launch notes also distinguish early firmware capabilities from later software updates, so inspect the actual installed setup.

Toner and the imaging unit have separate yields and measurement conditions. The toner declarations use five-percent page coverage, while imaging-unit life varies with job length and color use. They are not a current cost-per-page estimate.

For modest color work from a compatible computer, a documented 6120N can be understood clearly. Essential automatic duplex, confidential held jobs or heavier continuous workloads require a configuration or alternative that explicitly supports those needs.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The North American document explicitly declares one-sided A/Letter or A4 output at up to 5 color and 20 monochrome pages/min; Legal is separately 2.2 color or 10 monochrome. Optional duplex figures use page sides/min and do not describe the base printer. The 35,000-page monthly duty is not a recommended workload. Xerox’s expectation document calls the machine light duty and cautions against very long continuous jobs; no recommended monthly ceiling is established. 2400 Enhanced is a named image-quality mode, separate from the selectable 600 dpi mode and from a measured quality result.

Paper handling

Base 6120N includes one 200-sheet multipurpose tray supporting ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. The expectation document bases input capacities on 20 lb/75 gsm paper; the guide describes up to 200 sheets at 80 gsm. Observe the fill line and stock limits. The optional 500-sheet feeder accepts Letter/A4 only, so its 700-sheet combined maximum cannot be assigned to Legal. Automatic duplex needs the optional kit and its supplied extra memory, physically installed and enabled in the driver. It is excluded from this base configuration. The optional duplex routine is limited to supported plain paper at 75–90 gsm, not envelopes or other special stock.

Scanning arrangement

This is a print-only color laser printer. It has no copier glass, document feeder, computer scan route or included fax function. Printing a scanned file from a separate computer is not evidence of an internal scanner.

Computer and mobile connections

USB 2 computer printing and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet are standard, alongside a historical parallel interface. The reviewed base plans use compatible USB or Ethernet computer drivers. Parallel is documented in the article but is outside the finder’s present connection choices. Built-in Wi-Fi, native AirPrint and Mopria are not established. A network interface and browser-based management do not by themselves establish mobile printing or a current operating-system driver.

Supplies and declared yields

The US brochure lists standard cyan 113R00689, magenta 113R00691 and yellow 113R00690 at approximately 1,500 pages, with high cyan 113R00693, magenta 113R00695, yellow 113R00694 and black 113R00692 at 4,500. These are based on 5% coverage of an A-sized page, not an assigned ISO yield. The original North American package uses standard color toner and high black. Imaging unit 108R00691 is declared up to 20,000 monochrome or 10,000 color pages; the later brochure uses an average three-page job basis, while the earlier expectation document states 3.5. Job length and use matter, with no current price, remaining life or cost per page asserted.

Software and support

Secure Print, saved jobs, electronic collation and certain direct-file features require the optional hard drive in the original configuration table. They are not included PIN-release capabilities of base 6120N. Check the actual optional hardware and compatible driver on an existing machine before relying on those functions. The expectation document also notes that PrintingScout and CentreWare Web support were not present at launch and required later software/controller updates; a later brochure listing does not prove the firmware of a particular old unit.

Electrical edition and setup

The exact North American 6120N configuration is a 110 V color printer. The family documents distinguish 100–127 and 200–240 VAC versions; verify the actual label. The later brochure explicitly gives a 17.4 x 15.6 x 13.4-inch body and 44.5 lb with consumables, versus 54 lb packaged. The earlier expectation sheet rounds the same millimeter dimensions to 17.5 x 15.5 x 13.5 inches and 45 lb; allow room beyond either closed-body outline. For envelopes, remove other media, load up to 10 suitable envelopes flap down with long flaps left, select the actual Envelope type/size, and follow the guide to raise both green fuser separator levers. Restore them before ordinary paper printing. Legal color image area has a restricted lower margin: the expectation sheet states 0.8 inch, while the guide states 10.4 mm/0.409 inch. Do not promise borderless or full-length Legal artwork; confirm the actual driver layout.
