Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible Ethernet setup print Legal color documents with at least 300 included sheets?
Yes. The standard 250-sheet main tray and 150-sheet MPT both support ordinary Legal stock, providing 400 nominal sheets on standard paper together. This arrangement requires correct computer software, network and media settings, with no automatic duplex requirement.
Explore this need in the finder →Does an unmodified USB-connected N automatically print both sides of Letter sheets?
No. The N requires the optional duplex unit; the DN includes it. A booklet setting or manual reinsertion is not a substitute for the selected automatic duplex hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the 60,000-page duty declaration qualify a 4,000-page recommended monthly workload?
No. A recommended monthly maximum is not established in the read sources. The 60,000-page duty declaration is a different quantity and cannot be used to promise the ordinary recommended workload required by this choice.
Explore this need in the finder →The standard N is a wired, one-sided color configuration
The Xerox Phaser 6180N can serve an established compatible computer environment that needs ordinary color printing and keeps scanning elsewhere. It includes a 250-sheet main tray and 150-sheet multipurpose tray, giving 400 nominal sheets of input. USB 2.0 and wired Ethernet provide the documented everyday computer routes.
The deciding limitation is that N does not include automatic print duplex. A separate duplex unit is listed, while the 6180DN includes it. The optional feeder, wireless adapter and memory needed for protected stored printing are also separate decisions. The official End of Support list includes this older family, making actual software and device condition especially relevant.
Keep the two standard paper sources useful
Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 fit both the main tray and MPT. The nominal 400-sheet count uses standard paper; an exact stock-weight basis for that count is unestablished. Follow the physical fill limits as thickness changes rather than assuming every permitted material forms the same stack.
The US brochure gives a broad 65–220 gsm media range. The original manual separates plain paper at 65–120 gsm and gives distinct card and glossy categories. Match the stock, size, source and software settings for the actual job. Keeping a special sheet in the MPT can avoid replacing the everyday main-tray stack.
The 550-sheet feeder raises maximum input to 950 only when installed. It should not be counted as standard equipment on an unmodified N. If extra capacity is necessary, inspect the actual accessory rather than relying on a family photograph with a drawer attached.
Envelopes and two-sided work follow different rules
The original manual restricts envelopes to Tray 1, the MPT. Use suitable laser envelopes without windows or metal clasps and follow the loading directions for the specific format. Select matching envelope size and type; a main tray large enough for ordinary Legal paper is not an approved substitute envelope path.
N needs the optional duplex unit for automatic two-sided output. A driver booklet function can arrange pages without supplying the missing paper-handling hardware. If two-sided reports are routine, verify an installed upgrade or use a configuration with documented included duplex.
The print-only 6180N also differs fundamentally from the 6180MFP. It has no flatbed, document feeder, copying or fax hardware. The MPT feeds blank print media and does not scan originals.
Check the compatible driver and connection
Standard computer interfaces include USB 2.0 and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet, alongside a separately documented legacy parallel port. Ethernet is not gigabit. Use appropriate addressing and a suitable PCL or PostScript driver; CentreWare Internet Services is the documented browser management route.
Historical Mac support and Bonjour discovery should not be confused with native AirPrint. A wireless adapter and extra network-protocol card are options. Confirm a supported mobile arrangement separately if phone printing is central to the job, and check current operating-system compatibility before relying on the old installation material.
Protected stored printing requires added memory
The N starts with 128 MB memory. The US brochure gives a 256 MB minimum for Secure Print, while the original manual opens that routine with a requirement for at least 256 MB added. The stock configuration is insufficient under either statement.
Confirm the installed expansion before using that optional workflow. It requires an available RAM disk at the printer and compatible driver, a numeric job password and panel release. RAM-held jobs disappear when power is removed. Password-protected administration is a different feature from holding confidential output for the user.
Compare the declarations without mixing their bases
The US brochure quotes up to 26 monochrome or 20 color pages per minute without labeling paper size in that table. The original manual separately identifies 25 monochrome and 20 color one-sided A4 sheets per minute. Keep those statements with their own conditions rather than converting either into an established Letter or measured speed.
Recommended monthly volume is unestablished. The 60,000-page duty declaration, with volume spread across 30 days, does not supply that recommendation. US replacement toner declarations use ISO/IEC 19798: standard black 3,000 pages and colors 2,000 each, or high black 8,000 and colors 6,000 each. Those are replacement yields; supplied US cartridge yield remains separate.
Allow working clearance around the actual unit
The exact US N brochure lists a 15.7 by 19.4 by 18.5 inch body at 59.8 pounds. The generic manual gives different depth, height and weight figures, so verify the particular unit before a tight installation. Leave room for paper, covers, supplies and ventilation. The indexed original US contract listing identifies 6180/N as a 110 V part; check the machine's label as well.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The US brochure headline is up to 26 monochrome or 20 color pages/min without an explicit paper-size label in that table. The read original manual separately declares one-sided A4 rates of 25 monochrome and 20 color sheets/min. An exact Letter rate is therefore left unestablished instead of borrowing the A4 figure. These are maker declarations, not measured or ISO/IEC 24734 results. Recommended monthly volume is unestablished; the separate 60,000-page duty declaration, with volume spread over 30 days, is not used as a recommendation.
Paper handling
N includes a 150-sheet MPT and 250-sheet main Tray 2, nominally 400 on standard paper; a precise gsm basis for that count is unestablished. Both support ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. The broad 65–220 gsm media range has type-specific limits; the manual separates plain paper at 65–120 gsm. N needs optional duplex unit 097S03746 for automatic two-sided output; the DN includes it. The 550-sheet feeder needed for 950 total is optional. Supported envelopes use only the MPT, one-sided, with matching type/size settings and laser-suitable stock without windows or metal clasps. The maximum sheet width does not establish A3 or Tabloid.
Scanning arrangement
The 6180N is a print-only color laser. Its family name must not be confused with 6180MFP: this configuration has no scanner, original feeder, copying or fax hardware. A paper MPT and optional output duplex unit do not supply original capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard USB 2.0 Type B and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet provide compatible computer printing; a legacy parallel port is also documented separately. Ethernet is not gigabit. Use the intended compatible PCL or PostScript software and correct network configuration; CentreWare IS is documented for browser management. The wireless adapter and extra multi-protocol card are optional. Bonjour discovery and a historical Mac driver do not establish native AirPrint or Mopria. Check current OS and firmware compatibility rather than assuming a surviving old driver list guarantees it.
Supplies and declared yields
US standard replacements are black 113R00722 at 3,000 declared pages and CMY 113R00719/720/721 at 2,000 each; high black 113R00726 at 8,000 and CMY 113R00723/724/725 at 6,000 each. This US brochure states ISO/IEC 19798; do not substitute a regional 5% coverage declaration or claim a measured yield. US supplied-cartridge yield is unestablished. Check the exact cartridge identity and the unit's maintenance condition. No current cost, stock or old service entitlement is promised.
Software and support
N has 128 MB standard memory. Secure Print, Proof Print and RAM collation require a memory upgrade; the US table gives a minimum 256 MB requirement, while the manual opening condition refers to at least 256 MB added. The standard 128 MB is insufficient under either wording. The optional numeric-password workflow requires RAM-disk availability in the printer and compatible PCL/PostScript driver, followed by panel release. RAM-held jobs are erased at power-off. A network administrator password is a separate capability.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier US 6180N reference: the official End of Support listing includes Phaser 6180. The indexed original Xerox NYS listing identifies 6180/N as 110 V; verify the actual mains label. The exact US N brochure lists 15.7 in. width, 19.4 depth, 18.5 height and 59.8 lb. The generic family manual gives a smaller depth, different height and 54 lb including cartridge. Those conflicting figures remain noted, while the exact US N table supplies the displayed body values. Check the actual unit before tight placement and allow extra tray, output, cover, supply and ventilation access.
