Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible USB setup automatically print Legal color with at least 500 included sheets?
Yes. DP includes automatic duplex and both standard sources support ordinary Legal paper, giving 600 nominal sheets together. Stay within the documented duplex stock limits and match panel type, driver source and binding settings.
Explore this need in the finder →Does included automatic duplex also include PIN-held Secure Print?
No. DP includes duplex hardware but no hard drive. The documented four-digit Secure Print routine requires the optional internal disk, compatible software and panel release.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the DP scan color originals to a computer over Ethernet?
No. This is a print-only color laser without a scanner or original feeder. Single-pass color-engine wording and the automatic output duplex unit do not establish original capture.
Explore this need in the finder →DP includes the duplex hardware for ordinary color reports
The Xerox Phaser 6250DP is the automatic two-sided member of this older color laser family with the standard two-source paper arrangement. Its 500-sheet main tray and 100-sheet MPT provide 600 nominal sheets, while USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet offer documented compatible computer connections.
The original US configuration table includes automatic duplex on DP, alongside 256 MB memory. It lists a hard drive separately. That makes two-sided reports a standard hardware capability, while protected stored jobs remain an optional arrangement requiring additional equipment.
Choose paper for the actual duplex route
Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are supported by the standard sources and established for automatic two-sided output. The dedicated duplex instructions limit ordinary media to 65–163 gsm through the MPT and 65–130 gsm through the main tray. A heavier sheet accepted through one path is not automatically suitable for the other.
The same table separately permits specified glossy coated paper at 120–163 gsm and thin card in that range through the MPT. Follow the exact category rather than generalizing those entries to arbitrary specialty stock. Labels and envelopes are excluded from automatic duplex.
The nominal input count has no precise gsm basis established in the read table. Load within the physical fill limits, especially when using thicker stock. Match the panel paper type to the loaded material and select the intended source in the driver, because a correct size setting alone does not establish a suitable fuser setting.
Set orientation and binding before a long run
The original automatic-duplex sequence combines paper loading, source selection, page orientation and a two-sided driver setting. Its illustrations show separate paper paths from the MPT and main drawers. For preprinted or punched material, use the matching loading diagram instead of assuming the one-sided orientation remains appropriate.
Binding controls determine whether the finished pages turn along a long or short edge. The manual illustrates both portrait and landscape arrangements, with side-edge and top-edge binding. A short trial document is useful for confirming the intended reading direction before sending a complete report.
The historical Windows instructions name the relevant duplex choices in compatible Xerox drivers. Driver availability for a particular current computer still needs checking. A generic menu or an unsupported replacement driver should not be assumed to preserve every documented finishing choice.
Separate envelope work from automatic duplex
Supported envelopes use the MPT only, with no more than ten loaded at once. The original instructions place the printable side down and the flap to the right when viewed from the front. Choose a suitable laser paper envelope without windows or metal clasps and select its matching size, type and MPT source.
Use one-sided output for that job. The ordinary main tray's Legal capacity and the DP's duplex unit do not authorize a different envelope path. An occasional small envelope run is a distinct setup from the ordinary two-sided paper stack.
Verify installed options and computer connectivity
Both DP and N include USB, 10/100 Ethernet and a separately documented legacy parallel port. Ethernet is wired and is not gigabit. Configure the address and use suitable computer software; the read historical material does not establish native AirPrint or Mopria for a phone workflow.
Secure, Proof and Saved jobs need the optional internal hard drive. Secure Print uses a four-digit numeric job password followed by panel release, and the protected job is deleted after printing. Other disk-held jobs may survive power-off. The 256 MB memory declaration alone is not evidence that this disk-backed function is installed.
Extra 500-sheet and 1,000-sheet feeder assemblies are optional and cannot be stacked with one another. The DP therefore should not inherit the extra drawers or hard drive of other family configurations. It is also print-only: the color engine's single-pass description supplies no scanner, copy function or fax.
Assess the older machine using the right declarations
The original rate is up to 26 Letter pages per minute in color or black-and-white, compared with 24 A4. It is a one-sided manufacturer declaration, not a measured result or duplex throughput. A 100,000-page duty figure is separate from recommended monthly volume, which remains unestablished.
The US supply sheet declares standard black and each color at 4,000 pages or high-capacity versions at 8,000 each, based on approximately 5% coverage on an A-size page. Those replacement declarations do not establish starter yield or ISO/IEC 19798 results. Imaging, transfer and voltage-specific fuser items need separate attention.
The US DP part is listed as 110 V. Check the actual label, service condition and compatible software, and leave room for paper loading and maintenance covers. Exact US DP body measurements remain unestablished in the read sections; measure the particular configuration before planning a tight space.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The original manual declares up to 26 Letter pages/min versus 24 A4, in color or black-and-white as confirmed by the US configuration table. The figures are maker one-sided declarations, not measured or ISO/IEC 24734 speed results, and not duplex rates. Recommended monthly volume is unestablished; the separate 100,000-page maximum-duty declaration is not used as an ordinary workload recommendation.
Paper handling
Included input is a 500-sheet main Tray 2 plus 100-sheet MPT, nominally 600 sheets; a precise paper-weight basis for that count is unestablished. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in both standard routes. The supported-paper table distinguishes plain 64–90 gsm from heavy plain 85–130 gsm, with separate special-media restrictions. Extra 500-sheet or 1,000-sheet feeder assemblies are optional and are not stackable with one another. Supported envelopes use only the MPT, one-sided, no more than ten at a time, printable face down with the flap to the right when viewed from the front. Use laser-suitable paper envelopes without windows or metal clasps and match the panel and driver settings. DP includes automatic duplex. Ordinary duplex limits are 65–163 gsm through the MPT and 65–130 gsm through the main tray. The module separately permits specified glossy coated paper and MPT thin card at 120–163 gsm; this does not authorize arbitrary specialty media, labels or envelopes for automatic duplex. Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper are established duplex sizes. Choose the matching paper type and binding in the compatible driver.
Scanning arrangement
This is a print-only color laser without a scanner, original feeder, copying or fax. The single-pass wording in the old catalog describes its color print engine and does not establish any single-pass document scanning.
Computer and mobile connections
N and DP include USB 2.0 Type B, Ethernet 10/100Base-TX and a legacy parallel port. Compatible computer software and correct addressing are required for the selected route. Ethernet is not gigabit or a wireless radio. CentreWare IS is the documented browser management route. Native AirPrint and Mopria arrangements are unestablished in the read sources; do not treat old remote/email printing or a Mac driver as a current mobile protocol. Verify actual OS and firmware compatibility.
Supplies and declared yields
US standard black/cyan/magenta/yellow toner replacements 106R00671/668/669/670 are each declared at 4,000 pages; high black/cyan/magenta/yellow 106R00675/672/673/674 are each declared at 8,000. The 2005 US sheet states approximately 5% coverage on an A-size page, not ISO/IEC 19798. Actual yield varies with usage. Supplied cartridge yield is unestablished, and a separately listed Supplies Startup Kit is not proof of its inclusion. Imaging unit 108R00591, transfer roller 108R00592 and the voltage-specific fuser are separate maintenance items. No current costs, stock, promotion or service coverage are promised.
Software and support
N and DP both have 256 MB standard memory and no included hard drive. Secure, Proof and Saved printing require the optional internal hard drive; the 6250 protected-job routine is not the RAM-disk arrangement of some later models. The documented Secure Print workflow uses a four-digit numeric password and panel release, with the secure job deleted after printing. Other disk-held jobs can survive power-off. An administrator password is separate. Original driver menus include features requiring options, so a visible menu alone does not establish installed hardware.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier US 6250DP, explicitly listed as 110 V in the original US configuration sheet. DP includes automatic print duplex, 256 MB and the same standard 500-sheet main tray plus 100-sheet MPT; a hard drive and added feeders are separate options. Exact US DP body measurements and weight basis are unestablished in the read original sections. Check the actual mains label, installed options and working clearance.
