Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can USB support automatic two-sided Legal color printing with at least 300 included sheets?
Yes. DN includes automatic duplex, and Legal is listed for both ordinary standard sources and the duplex routine. Together the 250-sheet main tray and 150-sheet MPT provide 400 nominal sheets on standard paper. Use the supported duplex stock category and weight, then choose the binding edge in compatible software.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a normal Ethernet-connected DN both print and scan a color document?
No. This is a print-only laser without scanner hardware. Its automatic two-sided output does not add a flatbed, feeder, copying or scanning to the computer.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard Ethernet arrangement include PIN release for confidential jobs?
No. DN supplies automatic print duplex but still needs optional memory or a hard drive for Secure Print. Confirm the upgrade, RAM-disk availability and compatible driver setup before relying on the documented numeric-password release routine.

The Xerox Phaser 6280DN adds automatic print duplex to a wired, print-only color laser configuration. It can fit an established office producing ordinary two-sided reports through compatible USB or Ethernet software, with scanning handled elsewhere. The included input remains 400 nominal sheets across a main tray and multipurpose tray.
That suffix has a specific scope. It supplies two-sided output, while wireless networking, an extra paper feeder and the hardware upgrade for protected stored printing remain optional. Xerox identifies the family as no longer sold as new, so check the individual machine and its software before planning a routine around it.
Set up duplex as a paper and binding decision
The original manual lists Letter, Legal and A4 among the supported automatic-duplex sizes. Its duplex categories cover suitable plain paper, thin card and glossy stock within 65–163 gsm. The general 65–220 gsm media headline is wider and should not be substituted for that duplex limit.
Envelopes, transparencies, labels, die-cut specialty stock and thick card are excluded from automatic two-sided output. Keeping a specialty stack in the MPT does not make it suitable for the same setting used on an ordinary report.
Use compatible software to select both automatic duplex and the intended binding edge. Page orientation changes the result of long-edge or short-edge turning. Check a finished sheet before sending a complete document, especially after switching between landscape charts and portrait text.
What the two standard paper sources provide
The 250-sheet main tray and 150-sheet multipurpose tray both accept ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. Their 400-sheet total is nominal on standard paper; the read declaration does not state a precise paper-weight basis. Actual usable stack height must respect the source's fill limit and the loaded material.
Set the loaded size and type accurately at the printer and in the application or driver. When MPT mode follows the panel setting, a disagreement with the computer's requested stock must be resolved rather than bypassed by selecting an unrelated type.
A 550-sheet feeder is optional and is required for the advertised 950-sheet maximum. Inspect installed equipment before counting it. If ordinary jobs fit the main tray, the MPT can instead remain available for a distinct supported stock or envelope routine.
Envelopes use only the MPT and one-sided output. Choose laser-suitable envelopes without windows or metal clasps, follow the exact format's loading directions and select matching settings. The maximum sheet width remains 8.5 inches, so this machine is not suitable for full A3 or Tabloid pages.
A wired computer route is the established arrangement
The DN includes USB 2.0 and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet. A direct USB cable and a configured network connection are different setups, even though both can serve compatible computer printing. Ethernet also supports the documented CentreWare Internet Services administration route.
This is not a gigabit port or evidence of a built-in wireless radio. A wireless adapter appears among the options. Native AirPrint and Mopria operation is not established by the original material read here; an old Mobile Express driver listing refers to computer software rather than proof of a phone-printing protocol.
Check the protected-job upgrade separately
Standard memory is 256 MB. The US guide expressly requires optional memory or a hard drive for Secure Print, and the manual opens that section with the same added-hardware condition. Its later generic 256 MB minimum should not be read as an unconditional promise for a stock machine.
The documented optional routine also requires RAM-disk availability in the printer and compatible PCL or PostScript driver, followed by numeric-password release at the panel. RAM-held data disappears when power is removed. Confirm those conditions before using confidential jobs; ordinary administrator access controls are a separate capability.
Speed, supplies and the space around the unit
Declared one-sided Letter speeds are up to 31 monochrome or 26 color pages per minute. They are not duplex measurements. The US page gives monthly guidance up to 5,000 pages, distinct from the 70,000-page maximum duty declaration.
US replacement toner declarations use ISO/IEC 19798: standard black 3,000 pages, standard colors 2,200 each, high black 7,000 and high colors 5,900 each. Coverage changes yield. A regional supplied-cartridge statement does not establish the US starter package, and fuser, transfer and feed-roller maintenance remain separate.
The listed DN body is 15.7 inches wide, 19.3 deep and 18.6 high at 64.5 pounds. Leave room for tray handling, covers and ventilation. Verify the actual electrical edition on its label and independently check current software support; body dimensions and a surviving old manual alone do not resolve those installation questions.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The US guide declares up to 31 monochrome or 26 color one-sided Letter pages/min, separately 30/25 for A4. These are maker ratings without an asserted ISO/IEC 24734 basis and are not duplex measurements. The US page gives monthly guidance up to 5,000 pages without a minimum; the 70,000-page maximum duty declaration is a different quantity.
Paper handling
Included input is a 150-sheet MPT plus a 250-sheet main tray, nominally 400 on standard paper; the read capacity declaration does not establish a precise paper-weight basis. Both standard sources accept ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. General media span 65–220 gsm with type-specific limits; plain paper is 65–120 gsm in the manual. The optional 550-sheet feeder is required for 950 total. Supported envelopes use only the MPT, one-sided, with the matching size and type; use laser-suitable envelopes without windows or metal clasps. The widest supported sheet is 8.5 in., not A3 or Tabloid. DN includes automatic two-sided output for supported Letter, Legal and A4 through the ordinary standard sources, using the manual's supported plain/thin-card/glossy duplex categories within 65–163 gsm. Envelopes, transparencies, labels, die-cut stock and thick card are excluded from that routine. Select the appropriate binding edge in compatible software; the 65–220 gsm general range is not the duplex range.
Scanning arrangement
The 6280 is a print-only color laser without scanning, an original feeder, copying or fax. Two-sided output, where installed, does not provide two-sided original capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB 2.0 Type B and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet support compatible computer printing; this is not gigabit Ethernet. USB is a direct computer route, while Ethernet requires the appropriate network addressing and software. CentreWare IS is documented for network administration. A wireless adapter is optional. Native AirPrint and Mopria operation is not established by the read original sources; do not infer a mobile route from Ethernet or from the historical Mobile Express computer driver.
Supplies and declared yields
US replacement toner declarations are standard black 106R01391 at 3,000 pages and CMY 106R01388/389/390 at 2,200 each; high black 106R01395 at 7,000 and CMY 106R01392/393/394 at 5,900 each, under ISO/IEC 19798. Image coverage and mode affect yield. Supplied US cartridge yield is unestablished; the regional 220–240V brochure box declaration is not assigned to the US package. Fuser, transfer unit and feed roller are separate maintenance items. No current price, cost per page, supply stock or service entitlement is promised.
Software and support
Both original base configurations have 256 MB memory. The US guide and the manual opening condition require additional memory or a hard drive for Secure Print. Its numeric-password routine also needs the RAM disk enabled at the printer and made available in a compatible PCL/PostScript driver. RAM-disk jobs disappear when power is removed. The manual also states a generic 256 MB minimum; this does not establish included protected release against the explicit upgrade condition. Check installed hardware and software before using optional confidential printing.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier US Phaser 6280DN reference, explicitly no longer sold as new. DN includes automatic print duplex, but not the optional wireless adapter, extra feeder or Secure Print hardware upgrade. US listed body dimensions are 15.7 in. wide, 19.3 deep and 18.6 high at 64.5 lb, matching the regional DN unit-weight declaration; this is not the regional N carton weight. Allow additional operating access and check the actual mains label because family documents describe different electrical editions.
